I'm a rare gay that both loves sports and excels at them. Today, I went to my local park and played some pick up games with a few college aged straight guys. Naturally, my team won each game.
Afterwards, we were all sitting around chatting. They were commenting on my balling skills, asking me if I played in college, etc. I let them know I was gay. One of the guys said, "I just got destroyed by a gay guy." I responded, "you wouldn't be first straight guy that said to me." We laughed; it was just typical banter that always happens after a game.
Then we exchanged numbers for more pickup games later. Right. I know what those guys really want. Well, at least one of them. Haha
I am telling you, sports is an awesome way to meet guys. I would encourage more gays to participate.
Wow you are such a man, OP. I don't know how you even lay down to sleep when your enormous testosterone-stuffed nuts must be entirely impossible to navigate.
Oddly enough, I just had a married guy comment on my " balling skills" this morning. Must be something in the air today.
this. never. happened.
You're right, OP. Sports is such an aphrodisiac! The NBA playoffs are like a gay Victoria's Secret fashion show. Tony Parker is so hot it's ridiculous. And so is Lebron. Balling! It's what's for dinner.
I don't even care if your story is true, because it's completely boring and so are you.
I don't believe you, but I'll humor you.
How exactly did you being gay come up? Did you just blurt it out? In typical banter, most people don't tell everyone their sexual orientation.
I am rather boring. I agree. And, no I don't think playing sports equates to being incredibly masculine. It's just something I enjoy and, over the years, has been an interesting, unexpected way to meet guys that you don't normally see at gay bars or gay events.
It came up because the park we played ball in is near a gay part of town. These guys were basically commenting on how the park, despite having a great court, was usually empty. I said "gays don't normally play a lot of pickup ball..." the rest is self-explanatory.
The only reason I bring it up is because so many gay guys have an aversion to sports and it's too bad.
Some guys don't get taken for gay and they develop a proactive stance in order to stem potential insults should their ballers turn out to be neanderthals later on.
I remember having a gay chip on my shoulder once. Someone was trying to sell me something and said it would be nice for my girlfriend or wife. I said "I'm gay and I have a lover!"
I'm a rare gay that both loves sports and excels at them.
You are rather fond of yourself, OP. Or very naive.
I joined a local team and tried to play baseball, but I kept tripping over my caftan running to first base.
I stole third base in my Louboutins!
It's naive to think that most gay men don't love or excel at sports? Hmmm.
So, you interacted with hetero males in their milieu for a short time. How extraordinary! And you have hopes of starting up some form of more intimate connection. Be sure to let us know how it goes.
Call me crazy, but isn't the straight guy that wants to get it on with you actually a gay guy? Or are you actually a woman? Straight guys don't sleep with men. Gay guys or "bi" guys do.
Cool straight guys can be fun
then...let me guess...you spent the MOST fabulous day strolling around Manhattan...perused the bins at the Strand Bookstore, got your sugar fix at Magnolia Bakery, took in a matinee (full price at the box office, no TKTS line for you!!), early supper at some Chelsea boite, stocked up on some Kiehl's products at Barney's Co-op then retired early to save up the strength for tomorrow's pick-up game.
Stanford Blatch, unimpressed
OP, your notion that gay dudes are not into sports is erroneous and offensive. Your ignorance is horrible.
Wouldn't this type of epiphany be better suited for a BLOG?
I fucking LOVE R17!!
R15 must be a real [bold] BLAST [/bold] at parties.
I said "gays don't normally play a lot of pickup ball..."
What a seamless way to work your sexuality into a conversation with a bunch of men you were lusting after. You should rewrite exposition down at Paramount.
This story seems quite self-aggrandizing. I'd love to hear the flipside review from the point-of-view of the straight boys. I'm sure they thought you were a lustful tryhard.
this is nothing but a est, designed to taunt our basketball playing lesbian sisters while appealing to the mysnagist innerhatried of most gaylings. F&F this vial poster.
Regrettably, the other players subsequently declined the OP's offer to make hand-crocheted jerseys for them.
Now that they know OP, watch your back when you give one of the guys one of those "congratulatory swats on the ass". You don't seem to understand, OP, that it isn't necessarily an aversion to sports per se but what many gay kids went through in PE/gym class not only from others in class but in many cases from the teacher as well that scarred and turned many off from sports for life. I am one of them. I don't mind doing yoga because in that form of exercise one isn't out to impress anyone else with how butch they are.
Knowing how you feel about it OP why don't you conduct a one man crusade to get us "girlie-men" to join you in your he-man exploits? I'll do it on one condition, that I get to paddle YOUR ass for all the times I had to put up with being bullied in gym class or paddled by the teacher. What I'm trying to say to you is that for many who do have what you call an aversion to sports, there is more to it than just that, besides the fact that basketball, baseball, football, etc. etc. etc. are BORING AS HELL. Besides, I don't have to justify my indifference to sports any more than you do your affinity for them; I'm not on trial here......
Unsurprising responses from a bunch of girly men. I believe your story, OP, and am interested in hearing updates.
R2 and R17 are not nearly as funny as they think they are. It's odd that a post like this attracts ridicule while the little queen who had a great brunch several months back and bragged about how great his day was received nothing but sincere "tell me more" replies and kudos.
R31 is certainly posting like he is on trial. He is also proving the OP's point. Love your post r32! I would also like to hear updates from OP.
So glad you could sort it out in such a hurry for all the "girlie men" r32 and r33, what would we do without you? I guess it's "all the he-men together" on this one...it just makes me all quivery and femme!!!!
I don't think I will be able to appreciate basketball nearly so much as when all the players can run up and down the court bouncing their balls completely naked!!!
Jerry S (you know, that city in Ohio)
What is the great sin in kicking a fucking basketball? Someone I once knew told me the teacher caught him doing it and gave him swats with the paddle plus took him to the principal's office where he also gave him swats.
Paddled for kicking a basketball? Where did you go to school and when?
[r1}: I agree with you. No gays into sports? BS. Talk about stereotyping! Oh, that's right, we're all too busy collecting antiques, knitting and lounging about in caftans....
That was embarrassing to read.
I am telling you, sports is an awesome way to meet guys. I would encourage more gays to participate
Says the OP as if he had just discovered radium.
In New York alone there are over 50 gay sports organizations.
Saying that gays are averse to sports is no different than declaring stating most of us florists and hairdressers. And where does that leave lesbians?
And did you ever hear of the Gay Games? In 1994 (when I participated) we filled up Yankee Stadium.
Dudes just being dudes
Isn't there some gay player in pro basketball?
I believe you OP.
OP you're not a "rare" gay guy that follows sports and plays them well. I'm also heavy into sports and was a star player on my highschool baseball team. But don't feel the need to mention all the time like I'm someone special and somehow better than those "queeny" gays
By the way I'm also an acclomplished cock sucker and rimmer and am versatile!
And once again STRAIGHT GUYS DO NOT HOOK UP WITH GAY GUYS, no matter how good looking or masculine you think you are.
I'm the OP of this thread. Who in the hell bumped it? I forgot how much I loved the bitchy retorts! Well done DL!
Yes, I hooked up with the guy. It was okay. He was a bit too nervous about it.
R46 that's funny because I trolldared you and #46 didn't match up with the OP.
Don't reply to that OP. Let the tiresome trolldar troll at R47 think that he knows what he's doing.
The sex was boring because we're both tiny meat bottoms and bumpin' pussies gets tiresome after a while.
R47, trolldar doesn't work across long periods of time.
Most people have internet access through cable or DSL providers... and used "Leased IPs", which means they tend to have the same IP address, but it will change every so often. It's utterly transparent to the user, but it means that troll-dar (which is based on IP address) will suddenly be wrong.
Not only can the OP and a 6-month-later reply from the same person on the same computer not "match up" according to trolldar, but it's also possible that someone else has been assigned the old IP address, so two messages might "match up" even though they're from two different people on two different computers.
Also, since it goes by IP address, the same poster on two different computers will show up as not "matching up".
Don't get over-reliant on trolldar. It's only accurate over short periods of time. Hours or days, weeks at most. After that, it gets less and less reliable. After six months? It's unlikely to be accurate.
R50 there is still no way in hell this whole thing ever happened, especially the part were he claims to have hooked up with one of the straight guys.
I think he saw a gay porno with "straight" guys playing basketball and he confuses fiction and reality.
And what's what gay guys always fantasing over straights? They're straight you're gay, you can be cool and hang together, but nothing will ever happen.
As a proud, openly gay man I'm embarrassed when deluded gays blatantly hit on guys they know are straight.
You guys are funny. Yes, I started the thread. Yes, it happened. It's really not that big of a deal. I wasn't "blatantly" hitting on a straight guy, R51. It was a mutual thing. He gave me his number. I hit on hot guys, gay or straight. If they are into it, I pursue it. Sue me.
As a proud, openly gay man I'm embarrassed when deluded gays blatantly hit on guys they know are straight.
As a troll-dar troll you should have been too embarrassed to show up here again to further display your ignorance.
there is still no way in hell this whole thing ever happened,
Just because you can't even get a gay person into bed, you just WANT your version to be true. It's amazing how many people are too stupid to know that straight men sometimes wonder what it's like to get in bed with a gay man and will try it one time. They'll do it with a man who acts like an intelligent man, so that's obviously why R51 will never have that experience.
R53 I'm in my early 30s now but back in my college days I did fool around with 2 guys who claimed they were straigt
Did I think they were straight, no because any guy who fools around with another guy is at least bi.
I would never fool around with another "straight" guy again because I have to much respect for myself and unlike most deluded gay men I don't view straight guys as some ridiculous prize and I am actually attracted to gay men. What a concept! A gay man who likes other gay men and respects the sexuality of men who are straight
any guy who fools around with another guy is at least bi.
Yes, and any man who identifies as totally gay but tried a female one time when he was 18, about 30 years ago, is bi in your book. We all have a great deal of respect for your enlightened views.
R55 that's different because a guy hooking up with a girl and trying to be straight is still considered the "norm".
While a guy doing anything with another guy is really looked down upon in society as gross or weird or unnatural
Most straight guys I know won't even comment on whether another man is attractive or not, it's still taboo.
So even if a "straight" guy is curious, which at least makes him bi in my book, they most likely would never act on it due to how society looks down on it.
And again why would a proud openly gay man even consider or try to hook up with a straight guy? There is a such thing as pride and self respect not to mention a whole lot of openly gay or bi guys to choose from.
[R45], pussy doesn't repulse me.
I have a suspicion that most people have 'bisexual' potential, whether they realize that potential or not(and plenty of people don't), or whether they think they do or not. I'll give everyone an out by saying most people, instead of everyone. Though I do think most people 'major' in one or the other, and don't feel 'the same' way about both genders.
Having said all that, the original story is still boring.
more stories, OP?
tell us more stories, OP
How self-loathing must you be to state that gay men don't like or can't be good at sports
How self-loathing must you be to state that gay men don't like or can't be good at sports
I'm a rare gay that both loves sports and excels at them
I'm a rare Jew, I'm poor and want to give the land we stole from the Palestinians back to them.
There's something off about OP's post. I suspect he (if it is a he) is not who he claims to be.
The only reason I bring it up is because so many gay guys have an aversion to sports and it's too bad.
I'm a rare gay that both loves sports and excels at them
Gay guys who enjoy sports and are skilled at them do not have an aversion to sports. Anyone who really lives as a gay man would know this. A gay jock would certainly know this.
I believe you OP because I'm also a gay guy that excels at sports, mainly ribbon dancing and synchronized swimming
Excuse me, but are competitive cake decorating and scrapbooking sports now ?
r66, dude, what does that mean?
On a somewhat related note: I accidentally called a hot straight friend of mine who I don't really socialize with outside of work/the gym. When I realized my mistake, I hung up...only for him to call me back 2 seconds later. I admitted I accidentally called him and he invited me over later today to watch football.
Sports really are the best way to break down the walls that can exist between gay and straight men.
Sports are indeed how dudes bond, and I mean that as bros. There is something about playing sports or watching sports together that makes dudes bond. It is very primal.
So refreshing to hear from a genuine sport-loving gay man. You Go OP!
I played basketball with my bros today. Some of them know I am bi, but it doesn't matter. If you can hoop with dudes, they respect you, and barriers are broken down.
So many erroneous assumptions and stereotypes here
I'm a rare gay that both loves sports and excels at them.
No, you aren't that special of a snowflake, toots. Many of us love sports and excel at them.
Then we exchanged numbers for more pickup games later.
Was this before or after winged monkeys flew overhead singing "Wrecking Ball?"
Wouldn't this type of epiphany be better suited for a BLOG?
Finally, a voice of reason.
I just think the whole concept of "pick up" game sounds stupid too. You just show up and just hop in a game in progress? Do you guys have a special 'bro code' for communicating?
This never happened anyway.
r75, uh yeah. Do you ever go to the gym or neighborhood courts? You just go down and mix in the dudes playing basketball? It is a normal part of shooting hoops. It's not awkward or invasive.
At my gym, there is an older gay guy who is awesome at bball and he mixes it up with teenagers and college kids who some even play ball in college. He's really good.
I'm going to try that. I'll walk onto a court when a game is being played and try to get the ball from someone. I'm sure it's not awkward at all.
It won't be awkward, R78. Just join in for pick up. I see it all the time at my gym. Just ask to join in and which team.
This is what I sing in my head when I watch the older gay guy kick butt on the court...
Sports is a red flag for me. It means boring, unimaginative and probably bi.
I can't take anyone seriously if they call themselves "a gay" let alone "a rare gay."
Kudos to you, OP. You're troll post got me to respond to this thread.
uh, whatever, r81. weird...
This is a lame story and even lamer if it's a troll post.
So sports is a great way to hook up with someone you have nothing in common with. Isn't it easier just to go to the bathroom at the park? At least you don't have to sit through a game.
r85. I think the point is that guys who play basketball are hot, athletic, and masculine. Dudes looking for sex in a bathroom are not, and likely have STDs. I don't engage in hookups of any type, but I think that is why people find dudes playing basketball hotter than sleazy men prowling in a restroom.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
