A lot of us live in urban areas with visible gay populations of people who escaped bumfuck to live amongst other gay people, so we're used to seeing other openly gay people on a regular basis. My hunch is that around 4-5% of the population are openly gay, and that another 5% are totally repressed/closeted. I do think that if you include straight-identified people who've experimented with same-sex sex, then the numbers do skyrocket. But 10% out and openly gay? I think not.
