Penny Marshall
Wasn't Penny supposed to be on death's door, fat and dying from some awful disease?
Weren't Penny and Cindy Williams supposed to be bitter enemies who never spoke to each other after Laverne & Shirley left the air?
Both those rumors were proved false last night, when they appeared together onstage to accept a TV Land Award, along with Michael McKean and David L. Lander (who seems to be handling his MS very well).
Alas, Betty Garrett and Phil Foster are dead, so they couldn't get their awards.
And MIA was Eddie Mekka (the Big Ragu) - guess he doesn't want to be seen now that he is no longer hot, but fat and bald.

- Eddie today (yes, it's a mugshot)

- She's also making an appearance at the Hollywood Autograph Show next weekend in Burbank. Guess she needs to supplement that SAG & DGA insurance.

- Penny will be at the Big Hollywood autograph show next weekend with Cindy, her brother, Eddie Mekka, David Landers, Leslie Easterbrook and Carole Ita white. Michael McKean would probably be there but he's currently on Broadway.

- Penny looks large, but at least she's still kicking. It wasn't sounding too good based on the supermarket tabloid headlines.

- Once a bimbo, always a bimbo

- I hate it when they lead us to believe celebrities are at death's door and then it turns out they're not. And I'm also talkin to you, Robin Gibb.
- Eddie actually looks now like Phil Foster did when the show was on.
Penny was suffering from something for a while. Guess it's in remission. I can't remember much of anything she's done in the last 20 years after A League of One's Own, other than a Rosie O'Donnell interview that consisted of her repeatedly saying, "My eyes are puffy."
Her brother Garry is the wart on the asshole of Hollywood. So many bad movies….
- DAMN!
Guess Eddie's big from eating too much Ragu!
- Always loved Cindy Williams for some reason. She's in a fun little film call UFOria.
- Penny's an interesting character. She was, at least for a while, a much hotter and more interesting director than her brother, with the success of BIG and A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN, but she didn't really sustain it. She's done some TV over the past few years.
Between health issues and who knows what, I guess her focus is elsewhere.

- I thought David Lander died?
- Does Penny still smoke like a freight train? For a while there she would only fly private because she couldn't stop smoking even for a flight.
- Someone please get her to ditch the funny little glasses worn at the end of her nose.
WTF?
- [quote] I thought David Lander died?
He did. He just came back for the TV LAnd Awards.
- No R12. He just has MS.
- Penny and Cindy had a strange relationship when they were doing the show - very competitive and Cindy wanted to make sure they were treated as equals. Cindy left on bad terms.
In the mid 90s, they seemed to be friends agains since they did the first L&S reunion show on ABC. In every interview since then, they seem to really respect and like each other. At one point in 2007, there was supposed to be a reality show featuring them on Tv Land, but for some reason it never happened. Maybe Penny's illness?
- I think that's a very stylish look, R14.

- Ol' girl was on Live with Kelly and Michael this morning. I guess she's promoting a book.
She said the cancer treatment made her gain 60 lbs, but strengthened her fingernails. It sounded like she had trouble breathing, but that could have been my imagination.
I'm with R14 about losing the sunglasses.
- I'm glad Penny and Cindy are still friends (or at least, friendly).
Could you imagine working on a TV show with people you despise? When a show hits, the actors have to a take a look around and say "I will be chained to you people for the rest of my life."
So it's good for them to get along, because the public demands regularly staged reunions.

- Saw Cindy Williams in bits of "Travels With My Aunt" yesterday, when she was about 25. I never realized that she may actually be an annoying person. She was annoying in this, just as she was in "Laverne & Shirley" & "American Graffiti" -- I've never seen her in anything else, but I'll bet she's annoying in whatever else she may have done.
Either she's a one-note actress, or she's hopelessly typecast, or she's just a truly annoying person who can't act at all & just keeps playing herself in different genres.

- Just watched her interview on ET -- yikes. She came across as humorless and angry.
She was asked a question she didn't like, and threatened to walk out of the interview... then proceeded to mock the reporter (who said, perhaps too cheerfully, something like "okay, we'll stay away from that subject, then").

Robin Gibb died
- R21, she was actually married to Bill Hudson (Kate Hudson's dad). How awful that must have been for her
- And him too, maybe, R24.
- Apparently it came down to them counting lines in the scripts that they received for L&S. Cindy was allegedly concerned that Penny's brother would favor his sister over any of the other actors in the series, but it didn't happen. Gary knew that he had a comic treasure in Cindy and he made sure she was just as spotlighted as Penny.
Cindy did win out in the husband race though. Her ex-husband, Bill Hudson, was a hot little bear with a very bulgy, swinging package while Penny was stuck with the Meathead who showed absolutely nothing in his tight jeans on All In The Family.
- I saw Cindy Williams several months ago at Thunder Valley Casino near Sacramento, California. She was with Donnie Most ("Ralph Malph") for a celebrity appearance/autograph signing.
I thought they both looked pretty good -- he had grey hair and looked fuller in the face, but otherwise not too dissimilar from his "Happy Days" days.
She had a few wrinkles but looked pretty damn good I thought. Definitely hadn't gotten scary plastic surgery (at least at that time).

- Look for a very little known film called "UFOria". Cindy gives a wonderfully charming performance as a true believer, in both Christ and UFOs.
- She was diagnosed with an inoperatable brain tumroe in 2009
- smokes 7 packs a day
- Who R29 and R30?
- Cindy and the ghostly mist -

- Wow r32
Cindy's kitchen is looks like it belongs in a $700 a month apartment.
- Penny was diagnosed in 2009 with an inoperable brain tumor.

- Cindy's "Star Wars" audition. She sucks.

- Cindy's Star Wars audition is always good for a laugh.
"We have to get the plans in this R2 unit safely delivered to Shotz Brewery."
- Cindy was great in American Graffiti. I worked with her once on a terrible film, but she was perfectly nice.
- I thought Cindy was still married to Bill Hudson.
If not, it must be him, that guy can't seem to sustain a relationship. Did she have any kids with him? If so, how was he able to pay child support, he doesn't really have a career. The only TV show I remember him from was the show with his brothers and that was way back in the what, the 1970s?
So Hudson had just the two children with Goldie Hawn? Is Kate's brother's CBS TV show still on? IIRC, it was bounced around so many times, it never had a a regular time slot. That annoying David Spade was in it with the guy who played Pudy from "Seinfeld".
- P Marshall is such a parody of herself. Sorry about the metastatic cancer, and happy she's a trouper and all, but Christ what a tired schtick she's still peddling.
- Penny and Cindy had a period where they hated each other.
But so did Lucy and Viv and Susan Saint James and Jane Curtain and even Suzanne Summers and Joyce DeWitt made up.
- What was the "that" that she wouldn't discuss?
- Has Penny had lesbianism?
- The same thing happened to Patrick Swayze. Remember how those viscious lying tabloids kept posting how he was dying....
- Cindy was recently in a Hallmark Channel movie (strawberry Summer) with Shelley Long. Both Cindy and Shelley have put on weight as we do when we get older. This movie featured an absolutely horrible actress in the lead female role - Julie Mond. Jaw-droppingly awful.
- I loved her on Portlandia.

- Hello! Penny! This is your driver, Clarence. I always loved you. Thanks for all those happy days. Oh did I have a career with you. thank you! Clarence Ayers.
- Who knew - Penny would outlive Bonnie Franklin?
- "Cindy's "Star Wars" audition. She sucks."
She doesn't suck any more than Carrie Fisher did in the role. I have no idea why Carrie Fisher was chosen for that part. She wasn't very talented or experienced and wasn't that great-looking. And for some bizarre reason she spoke her dialouge in a weird semi-British accent that sounded really stupid.
As for Penny Marshall...well, she seems like a very unpleasant person. Has illness and old age made her the crotchety, snarky old lady she is now? Or was she always that way? Maybe she was always a pill and has just gotten worse over time. Anyway, she seems very unlikeable.
