You can't possibly be serious. First, they are (1) males, (2) teenagers, and (3) athletes, so it happens pretty easily relative to the rest of us. Second, by the time that they are coming up to a competition, the amount of weight that they have to drop is generally not that significant. And finally, a lot of what they do to get there is dangerous and foolish, as R15 notes, and designed only to get them past the weigh-in. After the competition is over, they often gorge themselves on food because they have been starving for days. Quite predictably, they gain weight, which they then have to lose for the next match. So, not surprisingly quite a few wrestlers end up with eating disorders.

The tapes were made by someone with behind the scenes access at college wrestling meets in the Big Ten (Northwestern, U Penn), so most of the guys are 18-22. Naked weigh-ins in a group setting were a common practice for wrestlers in the day, not so much anymore. (Probably thanks in part to these videos.)

The tapes were released by Dan Franco, or Franco Productions. Lawsuits were filed in '99, and the case decided a few years later. I've attached an article from the NY Times once the judgement was reached. I think the defense tried to claim that the videos weren't illegal because the guys were in a location where there were hundreds of other people around, so it was equivalent to a public location.

I don't know for sure, but I suspect the guilty parties were also responsible for the angryyoungman.com website. Those DVDs are obviously staged, but some of them had what looked to be a minute or two of the "real" footage in them, and I always thought it was their version of a "fuck you" to the courts.

We lined up like this for weigh-ins, and nobody gave it much thought. And you would be surprised at how many jocks, especially in the west and midwest do not clip their pubic hair.

The reason everyone strips is that the process goes much faster if each jock only has to be weighed once.

And, yes, most college wrestlers are nicely built, so there isn't really any problem for them to walk around naked.

Singlets are usually the only thing wrestlers wear these days. Pubic hair helps camoflage the details of a wrestler's junk by filling in around the genitals. Trimmed public hair also often starts to stick through the cloth, which is even worse. Most wrestlers I know do not trim their pubes during the season. I suspect that that's the case with the jocks on the videos.

About women who insist on trimming pubes: ten years ago fewer women were eager to give head; now they do, and they are within their rights to ask for trimming.
