Didn't I read here that he was known to take vacations in Provincetown?
The guy with the mustache definitely looks gay.
They all look pretty gay to me. Isn't Roberts married?
During the 1980s when he worked in a DC firm, his associates (partners) thought he was gay, lived with a man as well assumed to be his partner. This from one of the associates- friend of my sister's, a very successful attorney in WA state. When his was being vetted for his appointment- my sister found this out. Astounding if true. Of course he may consider himself straight now that he has married a devout Catholic woman (in his early 40s) and they proceded to adopt a family.
You tell me?
Clearly Chief Justice John Roberts is a homosexual, a gay, a twisted sister.
BTW...which one is he in the photo?
On the other hand only a straight man would serve dessert before dinner.
in that photo he is far left. is the guy on the right his bfriend? what happened to their relationship? is the bfriend still alive?
The men in the photos are all identified (somewhere) and are living as straight men.
r10, they living "straight" to the nearest man.
Roberts is gay-friendly. Ya have a problem wit dat?
R10. Says whom?
Jesus, if r10 is for real, I guess they all live in Denial?
I read it in a earlier thread on DL discussing this exact photo. In this case I thought OP was mocking that discussion.
Does Roberts have a record of statements about equal rights for gay people? Does he think the Constitution should be amended to protect such rights, or to prohibit such rights -- or does he think the issue should be decided by each state & the Constitution should not address it?
Being gay yourself should not determine your opinions about those issues, but it might affect them.
Being a closet gay who marries a woman and adopts children might skew your view of us 'regular' out gays who don't....
The self denying closeted homosexuals are the most dangerous to the Gay community. I forward Edgar J Hoover, Ted Haggard and Roy Cohn as examples.
Or the current champ David H. Koch. If he is gay.
add karl rove to that list
Closet queens have proved very beneficial for the Repugs. J. Edgar, Roy Cohn, Larry Craig and on and on. Good little soldiers. They must recruit them.
What R17 said, and this is why he scares me. If he closeted himself to marry a woman in his 40s he must be pretty fucked up about gay people.
Well that explains his agreement with the noxious strip search ruling. He's getting his rubber gloves ready.
David Koch? First I've heard of this. Are you sure you are not confusing him with his older brother Freddie?
Looks like there's four-and-twenty Bachmanns baked in THAT pie.
I don't care if he used to be gay, was never gay, or ever had a gay idea in his head. He is the enemy! A more articulate version of Clarence Thomas. A more polite version of Antonin Scalia. Those nasty conservatives only vote - I mean JUDGE - along party lines.
David Koch supports gay marriage.
William has had various hetero relationships.
Fred collects Oscar Wilde.
Charles is married.
Pretty sure Souter was. Is the photo of Roberts the main reason people say he's gay?
R29 see R6
r29 READ r6. Slowly and carefully. It's not a stupid photograph that we are basing this on.
Thanks, I had scrolled by r6's post earlier.
What's troubles me is he could be what the religious right thinks we all should be: maybe he's an "ex-gay" ie for religious reasons he "left the gay lifestyle". He wanted a wife and kids, so he went out and got them. I wish him well, as long as he doesn't throw us under the bus.
For the legal scholars: has he given any indication that's he's as much of a gay hating brownshirt as Scalia?
I always believed he was gay. It was the two perfect blonde adopted children that gave it away. I mean, it's difficult to adopt such picture-perfect children, isn't it?
R38: No gay man should allow his wife to be seen in public with eyelashes like that.
He played Peppermint Patty in his high school's production of 'You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown.'
Nobody knows better how to hurt a community than a member of that community he hates to be part of by default. Of course it's easy to betray others when you are promised something of value in return and when you are in the winning circle where you won't have to fear negative consequences.
r39, r37 was a QUESTION seeking to find out what r33 could have meant. Apparently you don't know either.
Roberts did pro bono pro LGBT equality work on at least one case IIRC while working at a big DC firm back in the 90s and his (I think) cousin with whom he has a close relationship is an out lesbian. Take that for whatever you think it's worth. Personally, I think Roberts could be a 6th vote in favor of marriage equality if the case hit the Court tomorrow, if for no other reason than he wants to be on the right side of history on this social issue and he (like Kennedy) can see what history is ultimately going to say re gay rights.
Also, at least Roberts is a defender of 1st Amendment freedom of expression. He looks like a flaming liberal compared to Bush's other appointee Alito on that issue.
And she's only 23 in that picture! Marrying a closet case ages you!
[quote]I always believed he was gay. It was the two perfect blonde adopted children that gave it away. I mean, it's difficult to adopt such picture-perfect children, isn't it?
And it's somehow easier for a closet case? I don't follow the logic. I also reject the idea that adopted children are any indication of the parents' sexuality.
Jesus, you guys are slow.
It is difficult to find perfect blonde children to adopt. Many people are adopting children from other countries, or children with disabilities, because there aren't many white (much less blonde) babies up for adoption.
It shows that Roberts adopted perfect white children for the picture-perfect white-picket-fence family that looks so good in photo ops. I mean, if you were gay and trying to hide in the closet, wouldn't you want your fake family to look like the cover of Family Circle magazine?
R44, history teaches us that one can never trust a closet case. Not ever. Not about anything.
If he is afraid to live openly, then he can be blackmailed or intimidated and our enemies will make that connection.
OK R48. I have thought about it and I have concluded that you are most likely insane.
Not widely known, but the misses is the much younger sister of that bitch, Jan Brewer.
Good find, OP.
He looks pretty butch to me. Maybe I can have a few beers with him and maybe toss a basketball around the field. And his wife is hawt!
That photo is so gay it shits rainbows.
I'm enjoying the brainy discussion of the smarter posters here at DL, especially the social significance of his wife's eyebrows. What a bunch of pathetic Queens.
Someone writing about that photo said: "It's just three men with a pie... and a mustache... and a glow."
Eyelashes, R55, eyelashes...
An acquaintance of mine says he had sex with the CJ but was told he would be killed if he ever tried to go public with the information.
He cruised a friend of mine near Dupont Circle late at night several years ago.
Do any oldtimers here remember a guy who posted Dick something or other? My remember suddenly drew a blank. Very, very right-wing, and I had a few tussles with him. He posted here in 2000 that it was common knowledge Karl Rove was gay.
Roberts? Hmmm. I smell smoke.
Scalia's son is a priest. Not that this means anything. Not that I'm suspicious because the son went to Holy Cross, a hotbed of gay activity. A friend of mine from high school went there and told me that the guys who were destined for the seminary were (a)hot, (b)horny, and (c)right-wing. Just worth mentioning.
Thank you r44.
I'm all for pointless bitchery about train-wreck eyelashes, but actual information is even more helpful.
Glad to see so many enjoying the John Roberts photo and the specualtion that's he's gay. I always thought he was gay even before I ever saw the photo. And then when I heard that he married later in life and adopted the perfect blond childdren when he was 48, well, in my mind he's a big ol' closet case.
But that photo...oh my, there's no hiding behind the the black robe, chief justice Roberts.
But, is he hung? And a top or a bottom?
He's not hung. And he's not a top.
If he were straight his wife would be better looking. John is too good looking for her. And adopting kids in his late 40 s....so suspicious
He really did play Peppermint Patty.
...and thanks for your contribution r61, nothing.
I ate the CJ's ass once in the 80's; memorable.
Did he enjoy it, R68?
I don't think he'll ever forget it, let's just say...
Why can't you go public with that story?
[quote]Why can't you go public with that story?
Trust me on this one - there are good reasons to keep quiet.
Someone needs to be brave. They can't murder all of his past tricks!
Who was the USC justice who was mugged while jogging along just off Capital Hill late one night, a few years ago? With no security with him?
[quote]...the son went to Holy Cross, a hotbed of gay activity...
I was there, where were they?
BTW, Justice Clarence Thomas is a Holy Cross grad, and he's the antithesis of gay-friendly.
Is that a joke about holy cross?
It used to be known as one of the homophobic colleges in the country.
They all might be having pie in that pic but they ALL look like they're smellin' cookies.
Yeah. It's not the food, so much as it is the troika of gayface.
I look forward to Roberts getting outed.
and when will that be, pray tell?
GAY MUSTACHE!!!! It's fun to stay at the YMCA!!!!!!!
Is Holy Cross a hotbed of gay activity as in that's where closeted gay Catholics go engage in their little pecadillos in private while they blast gays in public before they get married? Jane Roberts is an alumnus and she is Peppermint Paty in a Chanel suit.
Do we know about the other 2 guys?
Everyone knows all good looking men are gay, silly! He's one hot DADDY right now.
Back when he was nominated for CJ, someone posted that it was known at his first law firm that he was gay. Apparently he didn't go into the closet until a later date. You can be sure that none of the people who knew him then are going to talk.
Some people know how to keep that closet door shut.
Not everyone is heavily into sex. Some are into power. I've known straight men for whom that was the case as well. They would never cheat on the spouse because the risk of losing what they value is too high.
What happened to the thread about the blogger who is ready to out a closeted member of Congress? Is there an update on when that's supposed to happen? Is Aaron Schock getting worried?
one picture is all you base this on? Do you have anything else that might lead credence to this statement. Maybe that is what the obama via the NSA has on him and was able to bribe him into the decision on obamacare. Anything more substantial than one photo? How about him doing the down low? Anything?
Well, R90 ... it's a DAMNED GAY picture!
[quote]one picture is all you base this on?
No, it's not based on one picture.
Mr. Roberts is as helpful and sympathetic to the gay cause as Clarence Thomas is to affirmative action.
R93 wins the DL 3 snaps prize of the day. Good one!!!!
John Roberts voted to keep DOMA in place. Fucking evil bigoted homophobic closeted bastard.
One of these days, someone from his old law firm will get fed up with his homophobic rulings and will out him.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
