Men - What Jewelry Do You Wear?

Rings, bracelets, neck chains? How often do you mix and match your Jewelry?

• I never wear jewelry, though I have a lot of nice pieces. I garden and do carpentry and work with cement, and my hands show it. Cuts, scrapes, callouses, and so on. So rings just draw attention to my rough-looking hands and are likely to get banged up when I'm working. And I never liked watches, but after my partner died in 1989, I wore his watch until I got my first cell phone nearly 15 years ago. And yet, even now I will buy a ring if it's really beautiful and it fits. The last one I bought is carnelian and gold, and it's gorgeous. I put it on from time to time, but within a few minutes I always want to take it off.

• Hmmm I think on this evidence Americans are very conservative. Lots of the UK gays wear jewellery, not just the young ones. Gold chains look chavvy but on a muscle guy can be alright. Personally I prefer silver and the cheaper alternatives like pewter and stainless steel. I have a few bits and bobs, none of it is very expensive apart from the ring I got for my 30th from my folks. It's titanium with a solitary diamond. Is looking a bit scratched now in places, but I still love it. I wish I'd got my ears pierced sometimes, or one of them. But at 34 it's too late to start rocking that look. Earrings went out of fashion for men but I think it's back now with the young mod set (seriously, even the chavs are dressing smart atm). Ultimately, we get one go around on the Earth so life's a bit too short to worry about what other people might think, and therefore one should dress for oneself, but hopefully with taste. Individuality doesn't have to mean tack.

I wear my dead dad's wedding ring (Hell, i'm not getting married, that finger's free), a small gold signet ring next to it and a claddagh on my middle finger right hand. My biggest problem is what watch to wear...a Rolex or a Cartier. Mostly I just go with my Ball railroad watch.

• Jewelry, you can change or take off. Try that with a lot of those ugly ass tatoos out there that scream white trash.
