Josh Hartnett Taking Agency Meetings…What Happened To That Guy?
Josh Hartnett has left CAA, and he has been making the rounds of agencies looking for new representation. Even though they might be unexcited by his recent movies like Bunraku and Girl Walks Into A Bar, the agencies are all over him. Who can blame them? This is a strapping young guy who can act and is only 33. I thought he was going to be a big star when he made Pearl Harbor and especially Black Hawk Down. While occasional films reminded of his potential–how great was Hartnett in 30 Days Of Night, maybe the coolest vampire movie since From Dusk Till Dawn?–for the most part he has leaned toward indie, artsy fare.
I can still remember in the early 2000s when Hartnett was offered the Superman role by Warner Bros in a three-picture deal that potentially could have paid him $100 million. He turned it down because he didn’t want to be defined by that iconic role. Sometimes shuffling the deck with reps works, but only if the actor doesn’t reject the occasional big picture to go along with the art films, something Ryan Gosling is now doing. Agents tells me that a couple of good studio roles puts Hartnett right back on the map, and that is why they’re racing to sign him. He’s still with Management 360.

- You think Josh is actually a good actor???
- It's from the Deadline article, R1.
- Last I heard from Josh was that he was fucking Rihanna
- I love how the Deadline comments are chewing the writer (and Josh) out...
- Has Josh had the ugly black mole removed from his neck?
- Isn't he with Amanda Seyfried?
- He's bland and has no charisma. I'm really surprised Hollywood still thinks they can make him a star. That ship has passed.
- He also had (hopefully it is in the past tense) some drug problems which stalled his career.
- The Deadline writer seems a little giddy with enthusiasm, but in the few films I've seen with Hartnett, he's been somewhere between more than adequate (30 Days of Night) and actually rather good (Lucky Number Slevin.) The couple of times I've seen him interviewed or on chat shows, he comes off well: polite, quiet, unassuming, self-effacing, interested in what others have to say, and not a dim bulb.
His might not be the greatest talent or career of our lifetimes, but he seems unfairly shouldered with a lot of contempt for "failing" to live up to the great deal of hype that was hoisted on him at one point.
- How popular would he be if he ventured into porn? Gay porn or straight porn?
- He's an okay actor. Bet if he applied himself and chose better projects, he'd actually be a decent actor.
"30 Days of Night" is really under-rated though, damn terrifying vampire movie.
- He's a good guy - very liberal. He's from Minnesota, and when Sen. Paul Wellstone (D) died in a plane crash around the time that Bush needed one more seat to win control of the Senate, like a lot of other liberals he accused the Bush administration of having his plane sabotaged.
- He's not memorable (kind of like that other hyped up actor from the early 2000s, Jake Gyllenhaal). No screen presence whatsoever. I've seen a bunch of Josh Hartnett movies but he made no impression at all. He's as bland as white bread.
Those Deadline comments are right. He's been replaced by Channing Tatum.
- He is as good looking as Tatum and as talented IMHO. He's crush worthy.
- [quote]He is as good looking as Tatum and as talented IMHO.
That's not saying much.
- Looks good in period clothes in "The Black Dahlia" - also shows his ass.
Aaron%20Eckhart
- I think he's better looking that Tatum Channing, same talent wise.
- All he needs is do frontal (a la Fassbender) and all DL queens will flock to him
- What's wrong with that, R18?
- Nothing, R19
I want him to do it.
And%20soon
- His cock is currently in the same place Ryan Phillippe's once was.
- If every actor was a well-endowed as Fassbender they would have no issue going full frontal. That is why Fassbender wasn't "brave", dude is blessed and he knows it.
Most actors don't really give a fuck about nudity, it is all about the reaction to said nudity. They know their manhood is going to be judged hardcore and a lot of them don't want to deal with that.
- Channing is his look-alike or doppelgänger and now taking roles he should have gotten. IMO, Josh is better looking but it's probably his own fault because I heard about the drug thing too.
- True, R22. And you only have to look at DL for proof of that. The few times a mainstream actor goes naked, if he isn't hung like Jeff Stryker he gets torn to shreds and made fun of. What actor wants to see a bunch of vicious size queens laughing at him because he isn't as hung as a porn star?
Ewan McGregor is one of the few mainstream actors to show his cock a lot, and like Fassbender, it's probably not coincidental that he has a big one.

- I don't think Josh is interested in the spotlight anyway. He still has millions from his earlier films and is happy to just work every few years.
And he got a lot of positive reaction from "Lucky Number Slevin", not to mention getting to work with 2 Oscar winners in Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley.
- After Josh broke up with Rhianna, she got involved with Chris Brown. Do the math.
- I know I'll get flamed for this, but Josh was excellent in The Black Dahlia, and even better, and so sexy, in a little known film called August. If you haven't seen the latter, check it out.
- I agree that Josh was good in "The Black Dahlia". And as I posted above, he looks good in 1940's clothes, too. He's about 6'3 - much taller than the average leading man.
Josh Hartnett underwear bulge:

- [quote]I don't think Josh is interested in the spotlight anyway. He still has millions from his earlier films and is happy to just work every few years.
If he's looking for a new agency is sounds like he's not too happy with his career. It's not like he's doing good indie films. He's making crap nobody sees. That can't be fun for any actor.
- Do you think he's meeting with Sean Cody, Corbin Fisher, or Jake Cruise?
- [quote]His cock is currently in the same place Ryan Phillippe's once was.
You must be very slow. Everybody knows she's fucking Ashton Kutcher now.
- Lucky Number Slevin was a piece of shit. People actually liked that? Maybe the most pathetic wannabe Tarantino I have ever seen, and I've seen a few. And holy shit the homophobia was off the charts!
That said, he is cute and far better looking than Tatum.
- R31, Josh is currently with Amanda Seyfried, who used to be with Ryan Phillippe. Get it?
- [quote]He still has millions from his earlier films and is happy to just work every few years.
Looking at his IMDB I don't think he's really that rich. He's only made a few big movies and those were years ago. He certainly doesn't have enough cash to never work again.
Those Deadline comments are right on. He's wooden and boring. That's why he doesn't have a career. Even the fangurls have moved on.
- I'm surprised he hasn't tried his luck at TV. His movie career is going nowhere.
- [quote]Josh is currently with Amanda Seyfried, who used to be with Ryan Phillippe. Get it?
And Josh used to fuck Rihanna, who was also with Philippe. They've both shared the same pussy.
- So Josh and Ryan should just do each other so finish everything off
- [quote]And he got a lot of positive reaction from "Lucky Number Slevin", not to mention getting to work with 2 Oscar winners in Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley.
Um, no he did not get a lot of positive reaction. It got crappy reviews. That movie sucked, and it doesn't matter if there were 2 Oscar winners involved in it.
- That would be hot, R37.
But Josh seems to be one of the few male actors who is totally straight. I don't think I've ever seen any gay rumors about him - a rarity for DL.
- [quote]Looking at his IMDB I don't think he's really that rich. He's only made a few big movies and those were years ago. He certainly doesn't have enough cash to never work again.

This might ease his pain:
[quote]Josh Hartnett is an actor and producer with a net worth of $45 million. Josh Hartnett earned his net worth through his acting roles on stage, screen and television, as well as his appearance in commercials, the movies and music video’s he has produced.

- Well R39 - Josh was caught receiving oral sex from a woman in a NYC bar (trhere's a Gawker article somewhere) so maybe someone should tell him that gay guys give the best oral
- Josh's naked ass:

What a bunch of bullshit.
- Oh please, celebrity net worth.com is so full of shit.
- He's Ashton Kutcher, if his career had not gone well . Cute, not particularly talented. No charisma. Besides the drug problem, I also heard he didn't bath- or is that just part of the whole druggie thing ?
- He's not worth anywhere near $45 million. More like $5 million if he's lucky.
- Yum
http://i15.tinypic.com/4uwaszb.jpg
- How do you know that he's not worth that much? Have any of you seen his tax returns? Many actors begin investing immediately after the first big scheck. I personally have no idea what he's worth, but I wouldn't rule anything out.

He's a combination of Ashton and Channing Tatum. That's not a good combo.
- [quote] Maybe the most pathetic wannabe Tarantino I have ever seen, and I've seen a few. And holy shit the homophobia was off the charts!
Uh, you must never watched The Boondocks Saints.
- How many women has Josh been with? It seems like he gets a lot of pussy.
- When you have guys like Tom Hardy, JGL, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling why bother with Hartnett, he doesn't belong to the new generation of leading men, even Ryan Reynolds is more relevant than him.
Orlando%20B.
- He left?
Sure, he did.
- With his new neck tattoo he'll be a shoo in for all those motorcycle gang member roles that pop up so often. He'll look so good in black leather that no one will care that he can't emote a note.
- I liked Lucky Number Slevin. It surprised me because I did really like Harnett in it. He seemed better than I've always perceived him to be as an actor. And it made me curious to see other dramas he'd been in to see whether it was a fluke or not. I remember there were major plot points involving a gay character and there were homophobic characters who acted out of their homophobia, but I don't remember all of the specifics. I may have to watch it again.
I could see him carving out a spot as a villain. Or if he were able to steal roles from Channing Tatum that's fine with me. I would rather look at him than Tatum.
For a while he was the next big thing. I suppose if he lived modestly and saved/invested his money he could be worth 45 million. Of course that blurb is so badly written it makes me dismiss the idea completely.
- How bad was his drug addiction?
- There's a DLer who knows him, talked about him in an old thread. Can't remember what he said about Josh though.
- [quote]When you have guys like Tom Hardy, JGL, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling why bother with Hartnett, he doesn't belong to the new generation of leading men, even Ryan Reynolds is more relevant than him.
Exactly.
He should really try for TV. His movie career is over. Maybe an HBO drama or some cop procedural.
- He never worked out enough and went from too thin to doughy.
The man needs a trainer.
- It was kind of refreshing that he didn't have the overly-muscular body that a lot of actors have today, and he is 6'3, so his above-average height compensated for his average body. But he admits he isn't a muscular guy. As he has said in interviews, "I have no pecs. My best feature is my butt".
- Never found him attractive. And his acting is wooden.
- r39 there are a few rumors of him getting blown by guys in Minneapolis. Whether or not that was just a matter of any port in a storm is another question..
- "there are a few rumors of him getting blown by guys in Minneapolis"
Where do they originate?
- [quote]How do you know that he's not worth that much? Have any of you seen his tax returns? Many actors begin investing immediately after the first big scheck. I personally have no idea what he's worth, but I wouldn't rule anything out.
Um no they don't. You really believe that website. Honey, lets see the tax man, agent, publicist, manager, lawyer etc... all take a cut of what he gets. He had a 3 year run of being in big budget movies, most of them were ensemble films and the ones that the had to carry bombed. That was 7-10 years ago which is a lifetime in Hollywood.
Hartnett in 2011.
http://www.imdb.com/media/rm502182400/nm0001326
- I think the drug rumours were about him smoking opium. There was a blind item a few years ago and he was the main guess (but in hindsight it could have been Wes Bentley).
- R12, you're saying he's stupid? The conspiracy stuff?
- I don't know about blind items but I know someone who has no reason to lie about it that said Harnett was into heroin. This was like 2-3 years ago.
- The problem also lies with CAA. They'll milk a cash cow then discard it. All the sentiment about agents who look after you, and guide your career is B.S.
They're a legalized Ponzi scam, and only want to get paid. They no longer have a long term plan for their "products." Everything is short term gain for maximum profit and then move on.
Once you hit a "valley" in your career, they are hard to find and don't return phone calls. CAA is proabaly the worst place you can go if you're an actor. They sign up people who are hot, and ignore people who aren't.
The smart actors leave them and move on. Josh is a decent actor and really would do a good job on TV. The stigma from doing TV is gone. Unless you do junk TV. Quality TV is good. The only actors who get anything out of being with CAA are the ones big enough to demand and intimidate the agency.

No he's a wooden actor who was very lucky for a few years. Black Dahlia pretty much 86ed his career as a leading man. He's in the same pile as all of the other late 90's teen stars that faded out after 2003.
- "The stigma from doing TV is gone."
Not true.
- His performance in "The Black Dahlia" will go down in history as a prime example of an actor imploding from sheer ineptitude and hubris. With his slack chest and bland musculature, he is a shoe-in for most undeveloped pretty boy of the 21st century.
- R77, why is it today that actors are expected to look like athletes and have muscular bodies and ripped abs? That's not the way average men look. In the old days, guys like Humprhey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant etc. just had normal bodies - they weren't that muscular or defined.
- he was very handsome when he first came on the scene, though he has always looked a bit rough. Even more so now. There's something rather unrefined about his looks, considering how good looking he almost is. As far as his career goes...maybe he wanted to take it slow, do less showy but more interesting projects. Who knows. Anyway, it sounds like he's ready to take it more seriously now. But he's aging. Fast.
- Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant were men. Hartnett still has the presence of a boy.
- There is definitely no stigma for someone like Hartnett to do TV.
[quote]I remember there were major plot points involving a gay character and there were homophobic characters who acted out of their homophobia, but I don't remember all of the specifics. I may have to watch it again.
His job was to kill a gangster's son. Now SPOILER at the point he kills the son he is still presented as a basically harmless nice guy and it is supposed to not upset the audience much - but rather amuse them - because the victim is a ridiculous homo who had the audacity to ask Hartnett on a date. Ewww gross. I couldn't single out a character as especially homophobic, it's the movie, it's the script itself.
- [quote]The problem also lies with CAA. They'll milk a cash cow then discard it. All the sentiment about agents who look after you, and guide your career is B.S.
I guess that's why Jake Gyllenhaal left CAA a few months ago.
- [quote]why is it today that actors are expected to look like athletes and have muscular bodies and ripped abs? That's not the way average men look. In the old days, guys like Humprhey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant etc. just had normal bodies - they weren't that muscular or defined.
Because beauty standards have changed. Back then Clark Gable's body was thought of as "hot." He certainly wasn't considered average. Now people like lots of muscles and abs and toned bodies. Hollywood hasn't changed, just what's considered attractive to audiences.
- He's always reminded me of a young Nick Nolte. I hope he gets another chance because I think if he's taken care of himself he'd be better looking now then he was as a twenty year old kid.
- [quote]When you have guys like Tom Hardy, JGL, Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling why bother with Hartnett, he doesn't belong to the new generation of leading men, even Ryan Reynolds is more relevant than him.
He's been eclipsed by all of those guys, who have shown REAL talent. And as others have said, Channing Tatum ran away with his career, plus it looks like Tatum is better at comedy. Really, TV is the only place for him.
- He is as untalented as Freddie Prinze Jr.but is worse because he actually takes himself seriously.
- NO ONE is as untalented as Freddie Prinze, Jr. Except his wife.
- Neither Freddie nor Sarah seemed to go anywhere after "I Know What You Did Last Summer".
Ryan%20Phillippe
- Wrong, R88. SMG still had Buffy, which kept her relevant until the show ended in 2003. It was after that, when she tried to build a movie career and failed, that she fell off the radar like her husband.
That said, she rocked as Buffy, she was great on All My Children and she played a great campy villain in Cruel Intentions. She's a thousand times more talented than FPJ, she just made a lot of bad choices.
- R89, the point is that it was the beginning of her decline. 'Cruel Intentions' was the last film anyone remembers her from. Ryan Phillippe went on to become a bigger star than her and get a lot more work since.
- and Ringer wasn't awful.
She needs to be on a real network series. Like Revenge, et al
- Totally agree with RE : 55 . His time passed. See a '24' type series in his future. Other than that - he may just fade away. He always seems like a humorless bore, in TV interviews. Good luck Josh . Take a shower - being smelly is not cool.
- I would say the beginning of SMG's decline as a potential movie star were those stupid Scooby Doo movies. I Know What You Did Last Summer came out in 1997. Buffy was just beginning and really became a cultural phenomenon right around that time. That certainly didn't start her 'decline.' That time was the high point of her career.
As for Ryan Philippe, he was looking around for a TV show because his movie career, much like Josh Hartnett's, is a joke. But Ryan is too lazy to even commit to TV (he's lucky he can live on Reese Witherspoon's money).
- R93, reports say Ryan did not ask for any money from Reese in the divorce settlement
- RE. 93 = Ryan Gosling
Of course he asked for half - that would be standard community property in Ca. anyway. I don't blame the guy - Reese is a piece of work . A true spoiled BITCH. He put up with her for a long time - and she , his cheating.
- Yes, he would have been entitled to half and they had no pre-nup. And two children, so a nice amount of child support each month too.
- Ryan did not ask for anything in the divorce settlement.
- Yeah. Right. Of course he didn't.
eye%20roll
- That's what the reports of the case said at the time.
Do you have court reports stating otherwise? Link them here.
- Please post the link that says RP got nothing in the divorce.
We'll wait.
- Found this post on TWOP about Josh Hartnett. God, he sounds like a douche. His decline was well deserved.
Gladly! It was several years ago, so Ill paraphrase as best as can.
I was on a shoot for Mozart and The Whale, and hadn't met him before. He showed up on set an hour late and totally strung out from partying (whether is was from drinking or something harder Ill never know). First thing he does is yell (and I mean cause a damn scene) at the director for not having something ready for him (never did hear what it was) and for the remainder of the day he acted like a complete jerk to Petr (The Director) and everyone else on set who wasn't an actor (he was generally polite to us actors for some reason). Just generally rude and entitled. You hear about this kind of thing, but seeing it firsthand was very enlightening.
I had always promised myself that when I have the opportunity to speak to a movie star I would ask them how they got their break in the business. His response was something to the effect of;
'I had to do this stupid play when I was in college. I didn't want to do it but I had to take an acting class (I guess he was studying visual arts or something). So after one of the performances a scout from the studio approached me backstage and asked if I wanted to move to Hollywood and star in movies. So I did.'
After hearing this I was totally shocked. It wasn't just the words he used, it was the way he said it with such cavalier disregard and lack of appreciation for the opportunity he was presented. He never starved, or auditioned, or put any effort into his success, and therefore became this POS because he felt it was his right.
Was I jealous? Sure! And normally, the grown up way to react to someone telling this story is to congratulate them on their good fortune and be happy for them. But what truly made this offensive to me, and cemented my deep loathing of him in my mind, was the attitude about it all. It's very difficult to articulate, but if you've ever met someone who is difficult to deal with and goes out of their way to make their co-workers miserable while they lord their success over you that they had nothing to do with building; it makes you realize that they are just another A-hole in the world validated by an establishment with no soul.
YMMV on my interpretation of this convo. Just reading it myself here I can see I haven't explained it very well, but there it is.
- Josh always seemed like an easy-going guy to me, but I don't know him personally so one can never know these things for sure.
- I'll take him under my wing...
- One of the impressive things about Josh is how tall he is. He's 6'3 and often towers over the other people in the cast. Many actors are short, but he's not one of them.
- I know a few porn studios that'd take him on. How do we start a petition?
- [quote]I think he's better looking that Tatum Channing, same talent wise.
Lately, Tatum has proven that he can act. In fact, Channing is fast becoming a better actor with each movie release.
I don't know if Channing has been taking acting lessons, but he sure has improved.
- I was shocked at how large Josh's head is, and how small his teeth are...
- [quote]Josh Hartnett Taking Agency Meetings…What Happened To That Guy?
I have NO idea.
Gretchen%20Mol
- I agree, R106. I used to ignore Channing Tatum in movies before, but now I pay more attention.
I also think Channing did a decent job in "The Eagle" a couple of years ago when he played a Roman solider opposite Jamie Bell.
- What was that movie where he went without sex for ages?
- There is no "there" to his acting.
Should return to modeling.
Zak
- R110, I think it was "40 Days & 40 Nights".
- Tatum has charm that Hartnett lacks. Hartnett is more controlled and appears smarter, but in the end, it's Tatum's career that's going strong. That said, I do think JH decided to coast, so it's not as though there's a competition between the two.
- Tatum will win an Oscar one day. Mark my words.
- Josh tried to take the high road artisically, and it cost him. WTF was wrong with being Superman? Had he made it a success, it would have allowed him to do those dull indie films he tried to build his career on.
But before he does anything, he needs to get the fuck off of that smack.
- Tatum's career may be considered successful, but I don't see him becoming the next Brad Pitt (eg. a mega-hunk superstar) or a serious actor (eg. Anthony Hopkins, Robert De Niro).
- 34 and hot!
http://swoonworthy.net/2012/07/11/seen-josh-hartnett-lately/
- I have always been a big fan of this guy
- Josh Hartnett is so hot. I love guys with dark hair and dark eyes. I'm also a fan of him.
- Any gossip on him lately?
- Lohan needs a partner for her first foray into adult entertainment and wants equally hasbeenish Harnett to be her partner! The name of the film, Liz and Dickless.....
