Rosie O'Donnell's OWN Show Was 'Fucking Hellhole' Says Staffer

Now that it's been canceled, staffers from Rosies disastrous talk show are coming forward with behind-the-scenes revelations about what really went on with the former Queen of Nice.

“It was such a fucking hellhole,” one former staffer told The Daily Beast in an in-depth look at what went wrong with the show.

There were O'Donnell's frequent clashes with The Rosie Show staff, and the host often lost her temper. During one taping last fall, "O’Donnell uncontrollably yelled at a publicist backstage because she didn’t like the parameters agreed upon for an interview."

Several staffers were also very upset "when O’Donnell clashed with Oprah Winfrey’s longtime director Joe Terry. People thought she humiliated him when she scolded him in front of a live audience for using the wrong camera shots, suggesting he didn’t know what he was doing. She fired Winfrey’s stage manager because she felt like he was ignoring her and not doing his job properly."

She was also unhappy with her bandleader, Katreese Barnes from Saturday Night Live, because he couldn’t play obscure Broadway songs off the cuff right when she named them on live TV. “I’m not upset that I don’t know Into the Woods by heart. A little heads-up would have been nice," Barnes said.

And in what is seen as a final insult to the staff, on Friday, when the cancellation was publicly announced with a glowing statement by Oprah Winfrey herself, Rosie was not in Chicago to personally break the news to her crew. She was in New York tweeting about what a great time she was having on Broadway.

I really don't blame Rosie for this. This was all Oprah's doing.

Trying to fit Ro in Chicago is like Oprah trying to fit into a size 26 caftan...very uncomfortable.

by Anonymousreply 1March 19, 2012 1:22 PM

I know Rosie's small legion of fanfraus like R1 will never accuse her of any wrong, but the woman is either mentally ill or is so angry that she's toxic.

WHY would anyone hire her for anything? Anger, attitude and controvery follow her everywhere, she wears our her welcome everywhere she goes. At what point do you just have to admit that it isn't them, it's HER?

She either needs medical help or a quiet life of obscurity. Whatever it is, she just needs to go away.

by Anonymousreply 2March 19, 2012 1:26 PM

Well... I hate to say it, but, she is a lesbian... and we all know that lesbians are prone to anger.

by Anonymousreply 3March 19, 2012 1:28 PM

I agree with you, R2. I can't believe how many people bought her "Queen of Nice" persona years ago and continue to believe it. Just because Rosie can be very giving to charity does not mean she isn't toxic, hostile, and completely unpleasant to work with. She sounds like a nightmare. It has nothing to do with her weight, looks, or sexuality. It has everything to do with her nasty personality.

by Anonymousreply 4March 19, 2012 1:30 PM

a miserable woman--dating back to her time in Grease

by Anonymousreply 5March 19, 2012 1:31 PM

It sounds difficult for the staff, and I probably would have hated working for her, too.

But R1 is right. Oprah forced Rosie to work in the wrong city with people Oprah wanted to keep on the payroll, and because the crew had worked with Oprah for years, I bet they resented everything Rosie tried to do differently.

Even if she had been the queen of nice, they would have resented her.

by Anonymousreply 6March 19, 2012 1:33 PM

"It's not Rosie!! It's that mean, cruel Tom Selleck/Barbara Walters/Joy Behar/Donald Trump/Oprah Winfrey/Star Jones/Kelly Ripa/Elizabeth Hasselbitch......"

Rinse, repeat, repeat, ignore the truth and repeat again...

by Anonymousreply 7March 19, 2012 1:38 PM

R6, except that they give clear examples of Rosie yelling at people, humiliating them, and acting like a complete terror. This isn't general resentment, it is specific instances of her acting unstable and mean.

by Anonymousreply 8March 19, 2012 1:39 PM
Oprah forced Rosie to work in the wrong city..

Excuse me frau, but how was Rosie "forced" to do anything? Did she not sign a contract? Agreed to be hired? Agreed to do a show in another city? I don't recall any outcry on her behalf that Oprah had sent gunmen to her door to force her to take a talk show.

Your idea of "forced" is quite precious.

by Anonymousreply 9March 19, 2012 1:41 PM

So wait, R1 and R6 -- you're saying this is all the fault of...Chicago????

Right. Chicago made her a toxic personality disordered nightmare. Sure.

by Anonymousreply 10March 19, 2012 1:41 PM

Of course no one forced O'Donnell to do anything. But clearly she wanted to recreate her previous show and had to work with people who were probably on another wavelength, one they were familiar with working with Winfrey.

Sounds like O'Donnell was chafing at not being able to control things the way she wanted. Well, too bad. She didn't have to take Winfrey's offer.

by Anonymousreply 11March 19, 2012 1:46 PM

Chicagohas broken stronger than Rosie... I feel badly for her.

by Anonymousreply 12March 19, 2012 1:46 PM

“I’m not upset that I don’t know Into the Woods by heart. A little heads-up would have been nice," Barnes said.

MARY!

Any bandleader worth his salt, would have LEARNED the Sondheim cannon in prep for working for a star like Rosie.

Inexcusable.

I am shocked Rosie didn't resign over this horror.

by Anonymousreply 13March 19, 2012 2:04 PM

It all sounds like nobody involved was fully committed to a successful Rosie show on OWN to begin with, followed by defensive finger pointing when the inevitable happened.

by Anonymousreply 14March 19, 2012 2:10 PM

Weren't these basically the same stories that came out after she left her original show???

by Anonymousreply 15March 19, 2012 2:13 PM

Oprah set Rosie up to fail. That way Oprah looks like the good one.

by Anonymousreply 16March 19, 2012 2:13 PM

Rosie has always seemed volatile with a mean streak alongside the punchy sense of humor.

by Anonymousreply 17March 19, 2012 2:15 PM

A showbiz personality yelled at staff and had people fired??!!

Why, I've never heard of such a thing!!!

by Anonymousreply 18March 19, 2012 2:15 PM

How dare you bring rational thought into this discussion, R14!

Rosie is an out & proud lesbian...we MUST hate her at all costs!

by Anonymousreply 19March 19, 2012 2:20 PM

I love how you guys believe any tidbit of gossip thrown your way. Rosie's denied the allegations on twitter. If they were true, she would have just ignored them.

by Anonymousreply 20March 19, 2012 2:20 PM

Oh, dear. The penised-angry lesbiand have infested the thread.

by Anonymousreply 21March 19, 2012 2:24 PM

How do fat bitches like this keep getting work?

by Anonymousreply 22March 19, 2012 2:24 PM

Chicago didn't do it. Rosie was cuntzilla in New Yok. At her own magazine, when she was ousted, the employees sang "Ding Dong the witch is dead" and saged her office to try to rid it of her bad vibes. During "The View" drivers refused to let her in their car becaue she was so abusive. Look at any project she's been involved with and there are horror stories about her behavior.

Rosie just destroys everything and everyone around her.

by Anonymousreply 23March 19, 2012 3:01 PM
Excuse me frau, but how was Rosie "forced" to do anything? Did she not sign a contract? Agreed to be hired? Agreed to do a show in another city?

Yes, she did. She signed on for NY. Oprah made a snap decision and demanded she do it in Chicago at her studio and with her former staff.

by Anonymousreply 24March 19, 2012 3:06 PM

From Breitbart!!!!

--------------------------------------

As expected, there's all kinds of analysis surrounding Friday's cancellation of Rosie O'Donnell's OWN talk show. You can read some of it for yourself here, here, and here. Some of this analysis is what you would call exhaustive, especially "The Daily Beast," but none of it is willing to speak the truth about why Rosie's show really failed -- and that's that America simply doesn't like her anymore.

Over the course of the last ten years, the funny, likable Rosie devolved into a boorish, divisive, nasty, partisan big mouth -- and who wants to spend an hour a night with a boorish, divisive, nasty, partisan big mouth (who doesn't believe fire can melt steel)?

By any reasonable standard, Oprah Winfrey could not have found a worse person to prop up her fledgling network. To those of us who have spent a little time outside of Manhattan and Los Angeles, hiring O'Donnell looked the move of a suicidal executive determined to bring down her own network. Why would any sane person choose as their savior the most disliked and unlikable celebrity on a planet where the competition for that title is fierce?

So why does the entertainment media refuse to point out that which is so obvious to the rest of us?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25March 19, 2012 3:09 PM

Old double standard. When a man is tough and forceful, people say "I really admire him'

When it is a woman, she is a bitch.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

by Anonymousreply 26March 19, 2012 3:13 PM

LOL @ Breitbart for castigating someone for being partisan.

by Anonymousreply 27March 19, 2012 3:15 PM

r23=Elisabeth Hasselbeck

by Anonymousreply 28March 19, 2012 3:18 PM

Perhaps she can find work as a truck.

by Anonymousreply 29March 19, 2012 3:22 PM
except that they give clear examples of Rosie yelling at people, humiliating them, and acting like a complete terror. This isn't general resentment, it is specific instances of her acting unstable and mean.

A terror? Nancy, please. Nothing noted at all gave any impression of terror. People were used to having Oprah sit on her throne in her office until showtime. Watch her reality show. She had zero input into her show. She had thirty producers doing the work. Clearly these people who were all but unemployed when Oprah left got an extra six months of work because Rosie came to town are clearly offended when Rosie wanted things her way. What nerve, how dare she, it's only her show.

by Anonymousreply 30March 19, 2012 3:25 PM

Years ago I saw Paul Reiser on the Leno show; they were two middle-aged professionals comparing notes on their colleagues. Reiser did a dead-on impression of Leno, then of David Letterman's body language. For the first time I understood Letterman's physical behavior screams rage (also Garrison Keillor's, btw.) I also thought that about O'Donnell, but assumed it was because she hadn't come out yet. Clearly it's a deeper issue.

by Anonymousreply 31March 19, 2012 3:26 PM

r29 Perhaps you can get hit by a truck. No, seriously go do it

by Anonymousreply 32March 19, 2012 3:28 PM
Oprah set Rosie up to fail. That way Oprah looks like the good one.

Uh, this is Oprah's cable network we're talking about. Rosie's failure = Oprah's failure.

by Anonymousreply 33March 19, 2012 3:33 PM

Chicago is the Madrid of Illinois.

by Anonymousreply 34March 19, 2012 3:41 PM

Whether Rosie was an abysmal boss, etc is beside the point. The minute Oprah hired her for an evening talk show, separating her from her core audience of daytime viewers, she was a disaster waiting to happen. Rosie has already proven that she does not have the juice for night time TV but she is quite successful with daytime viewers and she could have had a fun and zesty format. Also- CHICAGO?! Who the fuck wants to go to Chicago? Taking Rosie out of her element was a brainless egotistical power play (If I can do it so should you...) Oprah deserves this failure as it was IDIOCY from the get go. Rosie is collateral damage - but hopefully she'll land a gig that is better suited to her.

by Anonymousreply 35March 19, 2012 3:48 PM

It's not the first time Rosie has flopped. ZRemember the now-legendary "Variety show"? God, I wish I had DVR-d that one. Stunningly bad.

by Anonymousreply 36March 19, 2012 3:53 PM

Look, OWN is a disaster -- it destroys everything.

by Anonymousreply 37March 19, 2012 3:58 PM
To those of us who have spent a little time outside of Manhattan and Los Angeles, hiring O'Donnell looked the move of a suicidal executive determined to bring down her own network. Why would any sane person choose as their savior the most disliked and unlikable celebrity on a planet where the competition for that title is fierce?

So now, when O closes up shop, she's got the perfect scapegoat (except the one in the mirror).

by Anonymousreply 38March 19, 2012 4:25 PM

anyone who knows anything about the industry can see how clearly this is OWN's fault.

Yes, Rosie isn't a "nice" person and can be a bully and isn't always the picture of mental health....but that isn't why the show was cancelled. Rosie wasn't told until just before the premiere that she had been hired to do a nighttime show, and was working under the assumption she would be daytime. She was also pretty much forced into Oprah's old studio... she NEVER wanted to be in Chicago, correctly saying the big names wouldn't go there. OWN kept screwing her over, and then when things weren't working came the superficial format changes, not the big ones. Rosie lost interest in the show months ago and is happy to be done with it.

The elephant in the room no-one is talking about is the bigger picture: the failure of OWN. Turnover has been high, everyone is afraid to tell Oprah what to do. Their numbers are astonishingly low compared to their projections. No-one is watched Rosie because no-one but no-one is watching OWN.

by Anonymousreply 39March 19, 2012 5:00 PM

Interestingly, Rosie has spoken openly about her issues with rage during an interview on Season 25 of Oprah.

She has her share of issues but also seems to work hard at them.

The bad time slot and location decisions have been talked about to death.

I like Rosie, but was wary when Oprah first hired her that it would end badly.

by Anonymousreply 40March 19, 2012 5:04 PM

Rosie's "fuck this, I'll do what I want" attitude made for interesting TV.

by Anonymousreply 41March 19, 2012 5:07 PM

R39 is correct. The entire OWN network is a disaster, and that's why top level executives are all leaving.

by Anonymousreply 42March 19, 2012 5:09 PM

Rosie continually alludes to her childhood abuse and how it has contributed to her mental state. Does anyone know exactly how that abuse manifested itself? Her father seems to have been a distant prick especially after the mother died but was there more than that? I'm sure she has covered this in some form either in print or on tv but I'm too lazy to Google it. Does anyone know?

by Anonymousreply 43March 19, 2012 5:11 PM

She was also signed for a LIVE show which was yanked after the contracts were signed. She had to beg to get the premiere live.

by Anonymousreply 44March 19, 2012 5:13 PM
I really don't blame Rosie for this. This was all Oprah's doing.

Rosie's screaming at the show's staff and publicly humiliating them was Oprah's doing? Perhaps you could explain that.

by Anonymousreply 45March 19, 2012 5:15 PM

Rosie's show had 77 different lead ins. That alone makes no sense. My gosh.

Whoever is doing the programming on OWN has no brains! None! You do not have a few original shows buried within scads of re runs of Dr. Shill and the like and think anyone will bother with you.

People do not watch t.v. that way. No lead ins are very, very important in t.v. You do not have 77 different off the wall lead ins for your original programming. FOX never did that back in the day and CNN never did either.

OWN is like the t.v. channel version of a lazy kid who is failing in school who pulls an all nighter and does extra credit in hopes of earning a D- as their final grade so they do not have to go to summer school. That is what OWN is, a lazy kid who does not want to be told 'no.'

I'm tired of it. Rosie is not to blame for OWN sucking eggs at all. Yeah, Rosie is her own chick with a thing or two or three, but she should not be used as a scapegoat with this stuff at all. If anything Rosie is a good example of why OWN is ghastly.

by Anonymousreply 46March 19, 2012 5:18 PM
It all sounds like nobody involved was fully committed to a successful Rosie show on OWN to begin with, followed by defensive finger pointing when the inevitable happened.

Then that makes it perfectly okay she screamed at her staffers. It's not her fault, obviously.

by Anonymousreply 47March 19, 2012 5:19 PM
Old double standard. When a man is tough and forceful, people say "I really admire him' When it is a woman, she is a bitch.

Perhaps you can list for us men who scream abusive things at their staffers and who are greatly admired for it.

We're waiting.

by Anonymousreply 48March 19, 2012 5:21 PM
Interestingly, Rosie has spoken openly about her issues with rage during an interview on Season 25 of Oprah. She has her share of issues but also seems to work hard at them.

Obviously not hard enough.

Why do you keep making excuses for this freak? She should not be allowed to be in charge of other people.

by Anonymousreply 49March 19, 2012 5:22 PM

It shouldn't have mattered what the lead in was. Rosie was the draw and was expected to bring in big ratings. If Oprah is to blame for anything, it is insisting that the show be set in Chicago. The truth is, Rosie wasn't going to save OWN. Oprah wanted to do some kind of a feel good channel with life affirming shows. No one wants to watch that.

by Anonymousreply 50March 19, 2012 5:31 PM

Rosie O'Donnell is a great big bitch and one of the most hated women in America. And this has nothing to do with homophobia because Ellen Degeneres, while gay herself, is one of the beloved women in the whole USA.

by Anonymousreply 51March 19, 2012 5:53 PM

R51 = Tom Selleck

by Anonymousreply 52March 19, 2012 6:10 PM

That's slightly true, r51. However, Ellen Degeneres is also an unfunny, predictable bore.

by Anonymousreply 53March 19, 2012 6:23 PM

I find Rosie to be a much better interviewer than Ellen.

Ellen, however, is a much better stand-up comic than Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 54March 19, 2012 6:36 PM
clearly she wanted to recreate her previous show

You can't put the smoke back in the bottle. Her previous show worked because people really thought she was nice.

Now, they know she can be very nasty and is probably mentally ill.

The illusion is gone.

by Anonymousreply 55March 19, 2012 6:36 PM
The illusion is gone.

I meant to add: Just like her much younger, prettier and thinner girlfriends when the money disappears. #DatingHookers

by Anonymousreply 56March 19, 2012 6:37 PM

It's well known that Ellen's smile shuts down the instant the cameras are turned off. She's very popular with real estate agents and moving men who put her in a different house every six months.

by Anonymousreply 57March 19, 2012 6:40 PM

OWN's ratings are actually up.

This whole thing of her berating the crew in front of the audiences is beyond unprofessional but it does back up live reports about what an unpleasant experience it was for the crowds at the tapings.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 58March 19, 2012 6:42 PM

I think the sour, smug persona she attempted on OWN is her idea of "likeable." She's so far gone that she doesn't recognize what people are responding to. Of course, her on-camera persona IS probably likeable compared to what she's like off camera.

by Anonymousreply 59March 19, 2012 6:48 PM

Boy George said she was a crazy cunt to work with on the whole "Taboo" debacle. And it WAS her fault that it failed because she insisted on sticking her fat face into musical decisions she knew nothing about.

by Anonymousreply 60March 19, 2012 6:51 PM

R58, the article states that the only time the network gets over a million viewers is when Oprah personally interviews some high-profile figure like Bobbi Kristina. You can't build an entire network around the occasional big interview.

People are forgetting that Gayle King's short-lived OWN talk show got even worse ratings than Rosie's and was quickly cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 61March 19, 2012 6:52 PM

Gay people like Rosie- we go way back.

Homophobes do not.

Go up thread and you'll see all the foaming at the mouth fagbashers who have infiltrated this site. Every gay person to them is "mental" "out of control" "unbalanced".

by Anonymousreply 62March 19, 2012 6:58 PM

She is the Better Davis of our time.

by Anonymousreply 63March 19, 2012 6:58 PM

Gayle's show wasn't cancelled, she left to go to CBS.

Shows like Lisa Ling's "Our America" and Shania Twain's "Why Not" grew to almost one million viewers. Rosie started out at almost half a million and dipped to 80,000.

Oprah's 3 million viewers for the Bobbi Kristina interviews proves the audiences are there. Rosie couldn't get them.

by Anonymousreply 64March 19, 2012 7:02 PM

^^ LMAO! As opposed to Lesser-than Davis?

by Anonymousreply 65March 19, 2012 7:03 PM

Rosie is lucky she was given even a show. If it wasn't for Oprah she wouldn't even have had the opportunity.

by Anonymousreply 66March 19, 2012 7:04 PM

R62, isn't it possible that Rosie could be a lesbian AND a mental case? She's already admitted to depression, OCD, ADD and alcoholism.

by Anonymousreply 67March 19, 2012 7:08 PM
Gayle's show wasn't cancelled, she left to go to CBS.

Gayle's talk show attracted fewer viewers than Rosie's. That's a fact.
Oprah's 3 million viewers for the Bobbi Kristina interviews proves the audiences are there. Rosie couldn't get them.

Honey, if you think HUGE interviews like that are commonplace, you're crazy. Those are extremely rare. Like I said, you can't build an entire network around the occasional big interview.

by Anonymousreply 68March 19, 2012 7:10 PM

She also claims to be a children's rights advocate and yet she had her son's genitals mutilated.

Fucking cunt.

by Anonymousreply 69March 19, 2012 7:12 PM
Rosie's denied the allegations on twitter. If they were true, she would have just ignored them.

HUH?

by Anonymousreply 70March 19, 2012 7:14 PM

Lesbian AND a mental case? Hmmm . . .

by Anonymousreply 71March 19, 2012 7:16 PM

R59 seems perceptive. O'Donnell, on the other hand, seems to lack self-perception.

by Anonymousreply 72March 19, 2012 7:30 PM

Does anyone know what happened between Rosie and Ellen? Apparently they do not get along. Andy Cohen asked Rosie on WWHL about her friendship with Ellen and Rosie pretty much stated that there was no friendship anymore. It was a very awkward moment. She mentioned something about Ellen having the same production team that produced Rosie's syndicated talk show.

by Anonymousreply 73March 19, 2012 7:39 PM

I like Rosie, but the angry outburst stories sound terrible. I think she is a bit mental(unhealed, untreated etc). People would really like her if she could get rid of that ugly side. If she could cut that out, she'd be great.

by Anonymousreply 74March 19, 2012 7:47 PM

Rosie seems like one of those bull dykes who has an overabundance of male hormones coursing through her big ol' body. Her innards are constantly at odds with each other and it comes to the surface in her personality and temper.

The bitch needs to get her big ass back to Florida, open up a dyke bar, and get out of public life.

by Anonymousreply 75March 19, 2012 7:50 PM
She mentioned something about Ellen having the same production team that produced Rosie's syndicated talk show.

When Rosie called it quits in 2002, a lot of the people who worked on her show left for L.A. to work on Ellen's show which began in 2003.

by Anonymousreply 76March 19, 2012 7:57 PM

Bully O'Loudmouth should go away and stay away. She's a stupid, big mouth, drunken slob with zero talent.

by Anonymousreply 77March 19, 2012 8:05 PM

She was never a good fit for OWN. I was surprised when Oprah brought her on. This was definitely a managerial problem. Rosie is a polemic figure -- you either love her or hate her. There's no in-between.

Then again, perhaps OWN doesn't know what it wants to be. Right now, in its 3rd or 4th incarnation, it's just another outlet for some of Discovery Channel's reality shows, sprinkle with one or two original programmings. If you were to tune to OWN, you'd think you were watching one of the many Discovery Channel owned network. They're airing the same shows.

by Anonymousreply 78March 19, 2012 8:11 PM

As to the poster who said only homophobes are writing hateful things about this hog, I can tell that I am a gay man and I LOATHE her.

by Anonymousreply 79March 19, 2012 8:12 PM
Does anyone know what happened between Rosie and Ellen?

Rosie had an address book with just 20 names for each letter of the alphabet. On the "D" page, she had to keep reworking Ellen's address when Ellen bought a new McMansion every six months. Finally she continued Ellen into the E page, than F, than G and she finally gave up so they lost contact. It's Ellen's fault because she keeps moving.

by Anonymousreply 80March 19, 2012 8:14 PM

Republicans won't watch OWN because of Oprah's connection to Barack

by Anonymousreply 81March 19, 2012 8:17 PM

"Gay people like Rosie- we go way back."

Thank you for speaking on behalf of all of this, on this one issue every single gay man and lesbian is 100% agreed upon.

by Anonymousreply 82March 19, 2012 8:18 PM

Rosie turns 50 this week. Stop hating.

by Anonymousreply 83March 19, 2012 8:25 PM

50? Oh thank God.

She's inching closer and closer to the grave, after which we at last won't have to hear her excruciatingly loud voice anymore.

by Anonymousreply 84March 19, 2012 8:28 PM

lol@r22!

by Anonymousreply 85March 19, 2012 8:40 PM

According to Inside Edition, Rosie was the most difficult woman to work with. Donald Trump had stated that it wasn't surprising.

by Anonymousreply 86March 19, 2012 9:11 PM

Could it be that Donald Trump was right about something?

by Anonymousreply 87March 19, 2012 9:13 PM

R68, or Rosie, read the post again. Some have argued that no one ever watched OWN. But the ratings for big interviews showed that people wanted to see Oprah and the big names. Those 3 million had no trouble finding the channel, which is one of the more hilarious arguments that Rosie fanatics make. Second, regular series like Ling's not only had good ratings and good reviews, their audiences actually built during the courses of their runs. Rosie's numbers plummeted. If she maintained the half million or so that tuned in to the premier, she'd still be on the air but the curiosity factor died off and half those viewers left after the end of the first week. She was around 100,000 for the one-on-ones. Compound that with what sounded like serial unhappiness around the set and it was a no brainer to get rid of her.

by Anonymousreply 88March 19, 2012 9:16 PM

They're BOTH hard to work with. The difference is that Rosie's crazy, Donald's a pig.

by Anonymousreply 89March 19, 2012 9:18 PM

Yup!

by Anonymousreply 90March 19, 2012 9:18 PM

Liahs get CANCELLED!

by Anonymousreply 91March 19, 2012 9:22 PM

Rosie might have been cancelled for bad behavior. According to Donald Trump, it's not surprising.

by Anonymousreply 92March 19, 2012 9:25 PM

The right wing media is having a field day with this. The "angry bulldyke" image they've feasted on since she dared speak her mind on THE VIEW has hurt her incredibly.

It's a shame how this woman has been degraded through the media, given all the time and money (HER OWN money to boot) she has donated to numerous charities. Especially charities dealing with kids and gays. Yet that homphobic bigot Donald Trump is given chance after chance to redeem himself. And given free pass to hate on gays all he wants. "They" want Trump to take O'Donnell down.

The agenda is hard at work here kids. Maddow is next, and they've been trying to get her for a while. They only want the safe lesbians who don't act too "dykey" and keep their fucking mouths shut. That's why Ellen plays it safe.

by Anonymousreply 93March 19, 2012 9:35 PM

"According to Donald Trump, it's not surprising."

Wow. We're taking the word of Donald Trump, a man, who if he had his way, would make a national law prohibiting gays and lesbians from getting married. Is Kirk Cameron trolling these threads?

I'd rather work with "Crazy" than a "pig" in this instance. And anyone who hates gays as much as he does isn't sane to begin with.

by Anonymousreply 94March 19, 2012 9:38 PM

R93 that's an interesting argument. It's the gay version of what blacks said when OJ was on trial. Sexuality or race has nothing to do with it but some people cling onto it because it's the only thing they have.

by Anonymousreply 95March 19, 2012 9:41 PM

R95 You're comparing an angry lesbian to an accused murderer? Wow. I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole.

Rosie has her issues, but has done a lot of good for the community. That cannot be disputed or denied.

The right wing media has targeted her since her VIEW days. They don't like her, period.

Trump has been allowed to say some downright vicious, hateful shit about her that has gone unchecked by the media. He should keep his fat mouth shut. And I guarantee you there's some homophobia in those comments.

by Anonymousreply 96March 19, 2012 9:51 PM

r69 look, Rosie's kids are American. Most American males are circumcised, if they're not, it will be hard for them to find sexual partners (if they're straight especially, most women think they look disgusting if they're uncut, and they do!). Plus if they're uncut, they smell.

by Anonymousreply 97March 19, 2012 10:03 PM

Ellen is no picnic either. She's just worked to maintain her sunny public persona, which is nothing like reality. Rosie threw away the mask long ago. I have heard many Ellen stories and she is, by all accounts, a thoroughly unpleasant woman socially and professionally.

Lisa Ling gets low ratings for her specials. Her show would be cancelled if it were on Bravo or a similar channel.

RuPaul's Drag Race gets higher ratings than anything on OWN, except for the occasional big interview.

by Anonymousreply 101March 19, 2012 10:20 PM

Rosie hasn't killed anybody. Yet.

by Anonymousreply 102March 19, 2012 10:23 PM

FWIW, Trump also says disparaging remarks about Maddow (who is also reportedly difficult to work with) - so is Trump right about her, too?

by Anonymousreply 103March 19, 2012 10:30 PM

All I wanna know is what the hell is Harpo Studios gonna do with the "Home of the Rosie O'Donnell" sign outside that was unveiled and set in stone like it would last as long as Mt. Rushmore? How embarassing for Oprah.

Let's face it, anyone with their name on a show is probably difficult or demanding. And it may or may not mean that their bad people; it's just that it comes with the territory and the demands of producing a daily television show. But hey, that's probably what it takes to maintain quality, ratings, etc. And even then it doesn't always work.

I'm sure working for blowhard, douchebag Trump is no picnic.

by Anonymousreply 114March 19, 2012 10:47 PM

R113 This seems like a good idea for her. Her television days are over. She loves Broadway anyway, so she should focus on that instead.

Well since her ego was so big she also had Former Home Of The Oprah Winfrey Show on the sign, I'm sure she'll gladly enlarge it fill the whole sign.

by Anonymousreply 116March 19, 2012 10:52 PM

"I'm sure working for blowhard, douchebag Trump is no picnic."

of course it's not! But he's a heterosexual man so of course the media won't report on it, the media adores the Donald and men are supposed to act like that apparently.

by Anonymousreply 117March 19, 2012 10:59 PM

Rosie *took a meeting* to discuss Miss Hannigan, that's all, probably arranged as a courtesy to her agents. She's got heavy-duty competition. What's the thinking, DL? Can she bring in serious box office?

by Anonymousreply 118March 19, 2012 11:01 PM

R118 - apparently contracts are being drawn as I type.

by Anonymousreply 119March 19, 2012 11:04 PM

I think Mo'Nique would be hilarious as Miss Hannigan. I think it would rival Reba stepping into Annie Get Your Gun for casting perfection.

by Anonymousreply 120March 19, 2012 11:06 PM

r118 I'm sure she's more famous than her competition.

by Anonymousreply 121March 19, 2012 11:06 PM

I told you it was OWN's fault and not Rosie's.

by Anonymousreply 122March 19, 2012 11:06 PM

No R96, I was comparing their respective fan bases who insist that they can't be bad because they're lesbian/black. Both fan bases also accuse the media of distorting things.

However, now that you mention it, both OJ and Rosie have anger problems and are delusional.

by Anonymousreply 123March 19, 2012 11:07 PM

More Rosie juice, from The Daily Beast:

Oprah felt guilty about dumping her Chicago staff, and Rosie coming to Chicago was the solution. But, it doesn't take a genius to know it wasn't going to work. I wonder how many times that staff looked at each other and said, "this isn't what Oprah would do."

It never really was Rosie's show. She was a puppet and Oprah held the strings.

Not a good environment for anybody. But Rosie most assuredly has an anger and temper problem. I remember her staff at her magazine sued her for mistreatment.

I was hoping she was receiving treatment and had it under control. What a fool this makes of Oprah.

by Anonymousreply 125March 19, 2012 11:12 PM

Trump is such a joy to work with. Everybody loved The Donald.

by Anonymousreply 126March 19, 2012 11:13 PM

It doesn't matter if she has rage issues or whatever, so long as she does her job and brings in the audience. OWN made a tactical error in dragging her out to Chicago. Rosie's probably wondering why Oprah lets Nate Berkus do his show in New York. Maybe that's something she should explore with her management.

She's getting bad advice, tho; it would be have been nice if she'd said something to the Chicago crew before she deserted them. Apparently she's so limited she's not capable of even the minimal courtesies to her co-workers.

by Anonymousreply 127March 19, 2012 11:13 PM

Could be The Donald was right about Rosie?

by Anonymousreply 128March 19, 2012 11:22 PM

This was established in the other thread, but it bears repeating.

That Daily Beast article was written by Ramen Setoodeh, a self-loathing gay guy who thinks gay actors should and cannot portray straight roles.

So I don't think he is the most fair and balanced reporter.

It doesn't matter if she has rage issues or whatever, so long as she does her job and brings in the audience. Certainly not from the perspective of the people who have to work for her. Or are they just the little people, so they don't matter to you?

by Anonymousreply 130March 19, 2012 11:37 PM

Rosie is pretty twisted and sick.

She was obsessed with mutilating her son's genitals. I remember reading articles about it at the time where she was demanding he be circumcised as soon as possible.

Fucked up cunt.

by Anonymousreply 131March 19, 2012 11:41 PM

R123 I didn't say she can't be bad. What I'm saying is that the media has their own agenda against her.

Look at the Breibart article. They go out of their way to mention the steel melting incident on THE VIEW. That's the real source of their anger. They're still pissed over the fact that she spoke her mind regarding the Bush administration. They couldn't keep her in line.

I have faults with Rosie, but I won't join the chorus of those who bash her, because the ulterior motives are loud and clear.

by Anonymousreply 146March 20, 2012 5:47 AM

This is exactly what I knew would happen when Rosie's show was announced. Her meltdowns and failures are so predictable. She can't get along with anyone, she's obnoxious and irritating and people should stop hiring her altogether.

by Anonymousreply 147March 20, 2012 6:36 AM

"She was also unhappy with her bandleader, Katreese Barnes from Saturday Night Live, because he couldn’t play obscure Broadway songs off the cuff right when she named them on live TV."

First off Katreese Barnes is a WOMAN, not a "he".

Ms. Barnes has toured with Sting and Mariah Carey as a back up singer. Barnes has written songs for Chaka Khan and Alicia Keys. She was the first female musical director of "Saturday Night Live", actually, the first African American person in that position, she also won two Emmy Awards for her work on SNL.

Rosie sounds completely demented, but it's par for the course. She definitely has issues that money can not help. She has mentioned many times that her father left her and her siblings to fend for themselves after her mom died.

Showbiz, fashion and the arts, three fields I've worked in as the manager of an ad agency, are just some of the fields where unhinged and mentally ill people are seen as merely "eccentric". These types are always given a pass because they are "creative" and/or "tortured souls".

by Anonymousreply 148March 20, 2012 7:27 AM

I love how no proof or names have been given in the article lol!! And rosie has a HUGE legion of fans, the show just wasnt that good. I'm assuming we all tuned in to see her, but then the 1 on 1 thing, and not that many good guests, the show just wasnt going in a good direction! OWN wasnt a right fit for rosie! She has offers for huge networks but chose Oprah out of respect for her..bad decision!

by Anonymousreply 149March 20, 2012 7:34 AM

She is fat. She is always wrong and when you're fat and always right, well it just saves time. And when you're always wrong but thin, at least you're good to look at. But when you're fat and wrong, it's like ewwww totally, as if.

I bet if there was a pie right now she'd eat it.

Rosie O'Pig Face. How many more kids has she purchased?

by Anonymousreply 150March 20, 2012 9:29 AM

Rosie has always been a loud angry fat bull DYKE.

by Anonymousreply 151March 20, 2012 10:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 152March 20, 2012 10:08 AM

r130 -- To clarify: it doesn't matter to the marketplace whether Rosie has a rage problem, so long as she gets the audience. Does it matter to the people she works with, who depend on her for their livelihood? Is behavior like hers unprofessional and offensive? You betcha. I know: I was one of them, in another industry setting. Do TPTB care if the workers feel bad? Hell to the no.

by Anonymousreply 153March 20, 2012 3:30 PM

R153, but that's just the problem. The audiences can see she has a rage problem. There were times on the OWN show where she looked like she was ready to come out of her own skin for no reason at all. It became an unpleasant experience to watch her and audiences tuned out in dorves. Ironically, even thought TPTB don't care about the workers, the American public does. For the most part, they're the workers and they can relate more to them than to the shrewish boss that Rosie has turned into, in their minds.

We have some great entertainment minds on this board. So what does Rosie have to do to reclaim her career. No bullshit about "let her do a network show in New York and it'll be a hit." I mean real advice. My first would be stay away from the biz for a year or two and work on her health. A bit of introspection and let the audiences miss you.

by Anonymousreply 154March 20, 2012 4:16 PM

r154 (153 here) -- I'd feel better if I thought network and film execs took Rosie's repellant behavior (and the audience's reaction to it) into consideration. Jeez, focus groups anyone? Too many of them are from the same school of thought as the OWN execs who turned down decent projects that went on to be successful at other cable networks because they thought they knew it all.

by Anonymousreply 155March 20, 2012 5:27 PM

GODDAMMIT PEOPLE!!!

SHE IS FUCKING FAT!!!!

by Anonymousreply 156March 20, 2012 5:33 PM

Here's some professional advice for Rosie: take an acting job. ANY high-profile acting job.

She needs to lose herself in a character, preferably a likeable one. The public has pretty much rejected her as "Rosie." She no longer wants to do stand-up.

She's not much of an actress, but it's her only option for winning back the public's affection and respect.

by Anonymousreply 157March 20, 2012 5:45 PM

Rosie's not that good of an actress to play "nice Rosie" anymore and the public will no longer buy it.

She should let her rage flag fly free and play the villian roles. Read that she wants the villian role in the Annie Broadway revival and that's a step in the right direction. Audiences like the villians as much as the heroes.

She'll always be a character actor and there are plenty of bitchy unlikeable character parts around.

by Anonymousreply 158March 20, 2012 5:57 PM
My first would be stay away from the biz for a year or two and work on her health. A bit of introspection and let the audiences miss you.

She's already done that three differernt times: 1st break was between late 2003 (after the Taboo mess) and early 2006, then she did The View, which ended in tears in mid 2007. 2nd break was between mid 2007 and late 2008, and at the end of 2008 she did a variety show that got cancelled after one episode. 3rd break was between 2009 and early 2011, and then she attempts to do this talk show, which is cancelled after five months.

The long breaks and "introspection" obviously aren't working either.

by Anonymousreply 165March 20, 2012 7:17 PM

Yeah, but even less people heard her radio show than watched her on OWN.

But I think the point has been made. She goes, she comes. The public doesn't miss her because they don't like her.

by Anonymousreply 166March 20, 2012 7:20 PM

Does Jerry Barnes want to work again? He sounds very childish and unprofessional:

by Anonymousreply 168March 20, 2012 7:27 PM

R167, The ingrates who are leaking their hatred of WORKING on a television show, while being HIGHLY COMPENSATED for their so-called "hard" work are going to have a very sad time finding another job, with the exception of the bandleader, who said nothing wrong.

With so many unemployed who would have LOVED to work on the Rosie Show, tantrums or not, no one should take their complaints too seriously.

We've all taken crap off of bosses, whether we work at Vons, Walmart, or Wendy's. But when you are highly compensated, with full benefits, and you don't have to work all that hard, shut up.

In the entertainment business you are expected to endure extreme personalities, and if you can't hack it get out.

by Anonymousreply 173March 20, 2012 7:42 PM

The complaints against the Rosie Show reflect the immaturity and self-centeredness of the newer graduates who go into television.

They do work long, long hours, mostly on their feet, but are well paid and receive great benefits for the rest of their lives.

They also tend to think they are better than the rest of us, are extremely cliquish, and spread venereal diseases like the plague.

Ratting out Rosie is just their way of being "in" and "cooler" than the overweight 50-year old who likes things done right. Being old (in their eyes) fat, and gay makes Rosie an undesirable, hence she gets no respect or slack.

It's all VERY high-school.

by Anonymousreply 174March 20, 2012 7:56 PM

Can I just ask - has any talk show ever succeeded at 7:00? The cable news stations have news-related talking heads at that hour, but that's really an entirely different genre of program than a Rosie O'Donnell talk show. Certainly I can't remember anything like the initial concept of The Rosie Show ever airing at 7:00.

I know that after the format change, you could say it was more of a Larry King-type show, and that Larry King was successful at 9:00 all those years. But A) I think Larry mixed in enough politics and current-events episodes among the has-been Liza-esque celebrities that people still thought of him as a "news" show, whereas Rosie's brand is definitely "entertainment" rather than "news. B) 9:00 and 7:00 are just very different times. At 7 people are still somewhere in the process of dinner (preparing, eating, or cleaning up), putting younger kids to bed, helping older kids to homework, making phone calls, whatever the fuck it is. I think they haven't settled into their evening TV viewing like that have at 9 (there must be a reason the networks haven't started prime time til 8 all these years).

I'm not saying that any of this excuses Rosie, or that the show would have succeeded if it were on in the daytime, or whatever... just that if the accumulated wisdom of decades of television-viewing habits have led to agreement that 7:00 is not a good talk show time, it seems like she had one strike against her from the beginning by being scheduled there.

by Anonymousreply 175March 20, 2012 8:00 PM

I watched her on OWN and she never came across as angry to me.

Most of this angry talk seems to revolve around her time at The View, where she loudly voiced her opposition to the Iraq War and George Bush.

And she was right.

by Anonymousreply 176March 20, 2012 8:09 PM

r175 I can't even remember ever seeing a talk show on at 7:pm. That whole idea was new to me. The people running O's network sure are some geniuses!

by Anonymousreply 177March 20, 2012 8:10 PM

I think it ranks up there with other great ideas such as Jay Leno at 10pm and Community at 8pm.

by Anonymousreply 178March 20, 2012 8:13 PM

She had on Lily Tomlin for an hour yesterday, great interview. She asked details about her relationship with Jane Wagner her partner of 30 years. No other talk show host, Ellen included, would have asked.

by Anonymousreply 179March 20, 2012 8:14 PM

Do any of you remember an SNL skit from around the time when Rosie first came out and got that super short, lesbionic haircut? I think it was the Weekend Update segment with Tina Fey and Seth Meyers. Rosie was played by Horatio Sanz and it was hysterical because one side of him was done up as the feminine looking Rosie who would act all sweet to Seth Meyers, then when Tina Fey asked Rosie a question she'd spin round to the other side of her face which was the shaven-headed dykey, mean, nasty, angry person. I wish it was on You Tube, but I can't find it.
I watched her on OWN and she never came across as angry to me. Most of this angry talk seems to revolve around her time at The View, where she loudly voiced her opposition to the Iraq War and George Bush. And she was right.

I totally agree r176. She did not come across as angry at all. And frankly, if she had come across as 'angry' for the same reasons she was 'angry' on The View, she would have been right. Again.

But on the OWN show she was always some combination of relaxed, engaging, funny, and serious. Personally I loved the one-on-one format. She made uninteresting people seem like the most fascinating person on the planet.

I am sure much is left to be written about the failure of the show, which I think is a shame (both the failure of the show and that it will be harped on for a long time).

I have no idea what she was like behind the scenes. I wouldn't say it's hard to believe that she was perhaps 'difficult'. On the other hand, she was also dealing with staff who were long used to a particular person doing things in a particular way. Oftentimes when a new boss comes along in any environment there is high potential for misunderstandings, hurt feelings, aggravation, etc. Most of us have been there.

The stories these staff are telling may be true in part or in whole, but they are also coming from disappointed people who have suddenly lost their jobs and are experiencing a wide range of emotions.

I wish Rosie and the OWN staff the best of luck.

by Anonymousreply 189March 20, 2012 9:56 PM

Listen, like these people weren't used to dealing with difficult people. I mean, they worked for Oprah.

by Anonymousreply 190March 20, 2012 10:00 PM

The main thing Rosie is to blame for is that she was starstruck when Oprah offered her the show on OWN.

And according to reports Oprah railroaded Rosie in every possible way and yet Rosie still took it (out on the staff).

It's never a good mix when two unprofessional egos collide.

by Anonymousreply 191March 20, 2012 10:01 PM

Uh, the show was on at 4:00pm PST but it was also rerun numerous times during the day and week. Are all her fans unable to program a DVR?

by Anonymousreply 192March 20, 2012 10:05 PM

According to Donald Trump, Rosie was a bully to her crew, and all bullies eventually go down.

by Anonymousreply 193March 20, 2012 10:05 PM

I liked how Rosie interjected her own experiences into the interviews. It showed that she cared about the questions and the answers. It also showed how even the most unique experiences people have can be relatable in some way to others.

by Anonymousreply 194March 20, 2012 10:07 PM

How come Harpo enforces confidentiality clauses like a mad man when it involves Oprah's show, yet it's a free-for-all with Rosie.

I smell set-up.

by Anonymousreply 195March 20, 2012 10:10 PM

R192 - are you sure it was even repeated? I don't think so.

by Anonymousreply 196March 20, 2012 10:13 PM

She lost her audience with her politics.

by Anonymousreply 197March 20, 2012 10:17 PM

It was the network's fault. The show was cheaply produced, and the big celebrities weren't willing to travel to Chicago to appear on it.

Discovery Communications has seized control of OWN from Oprah and her staff. It's just a matter of time before Discovery changes up the network's direction and programming. It's the same scenario that recently happened at low-rated LOGO. Oprah will either be pushed out entirely or relegated to just one show.

by Anonymousreply 198March 20, 2012 10:19 PM

The audience is fickle.

r197, she lost her audience because they started to realize that the whole Queen of Nice image is fake.

Take a look at celebrities and how they fall from grace either when the audience members learn about the public image they fell for is fake or a new media hyped celebrity comes along.

by Anonymousreply 199March 20, 2012 10:28 PM

There was no good reason to watch because there were no big guests! Simple as that. Everytime I thought about tuning in or recording the show, there was some d-lister scheduled. As has been said repeatedly, a show based out of NY would have had a better talent pool of celebs to choose from.

by Anonymousreply 200March 20, 2012 11:24 PM

They are no longer speaking

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 201March 20, 2012 11:54 PM

Who knew Rosie was such a victim? Oprah railroads her, her staff turns against her, the audience misunderstands her.

by Anonymousreply 202March 20, 2012 11:59 PM

her biggest problem is her rage-anger

by Anonymousreply 203March 21, 2012 12:20 AM

Ro has talk show rage.

by Anonymousreply 204March 21, 2012 12:31 AM

Ro is her own worst enemy thanks to her temper and anger management issues.

by Anonymousreply 205March 21, 2012 12:39 AM

I do blame Oprah or this. If Rosie was allowed to be Rosie, she would have been a hit. She knows a thing or two about television. Things Oprah really doesn't know, but was lucky.

by Anonymousreply 206March 21, 2012 12:43 AM

Ro is a rageaholic.

by Anonymousreply 207March 21, 2012 12:43 AM

That's what Donald Trump said.

by Anonymousreply 208March 21, 2012 12:46 AM

R196, I'm looking at my channel guide and Rosie's show comes on at 4:00pm, and is repeated at 11:00pm and 6:00am. Before it was cancelled, it was also rerun at 7:00pm.

That's more than enough chances to catch it.

by Anonymousreply 209March 21, 2012 12:49 AM

Gayle King saw the writing on the wall and jumped off that sinking ship when she had the chance. You can tell that Rosie is actually happy as a clam to be done with OWN and Oprah, too.

Everyone who works for OWN is miserable and sending out resumes as we speak.

by Anonymousreply 210March 21, 2012 12:54 AM

R201 Of course they aren't speaking - you didn't actually fall for that phoney speech Rosie gave yesterday where she was speaking so highly of her, did you?

by Anonymousreply 211March 21, 2012 12:54 AM

A comment after the story linked at r201:

"She needs to leave her sexual orientation and sex life at home. She did the same thing on the view. She makes me ill with her butch self and big mouth, and if Oprah has dumped you, you are toast. Bye Rosie"

Charming.

Wishing Rosie all the best. And O might think about leaving television behind for awhile. She is a world leader pretend.

by Anonymousreply 212March 21, 2012 12:54 AM

Rosie is an unlikable bull-dagger. No one is buying the nice act anymore. I knew that Oprah was making a mistake from the very beginning. A very stupid mistake. She's lucky that Oprah was foolish enough to give her this opportunity because no one else would have.

by Anonymousreply 213March 21, 2012 1:05 AM

Fascinating how Rosie fans have to look everywhere to find fault with the show except Rosie. Her fans won't even consider that the American public has passed her by. Strangely, even Rosie suggested as much during her farewell statement.

by Anonymousreply 214March 21, 2012 1:07 AM

Rachel Ray, Dr. Phil, Nate Berkus and that Ilanya chick have all had problems working with Oprah. She's tough to work for.

Rachel wasn't even speaking to Oprah for awhile there. And I bet Oprah and Nate aren't good friends anymore after she cancelled his show.

by Anonymousreply 215March 21, 2012 1:11 AM
Listen, like these people weren't used to dealing with difficult people. I mean, they worked for Oprah.

Actually if you watched Oprah's reality show, working for her was easy. She sat on her throne in her Emmy lined office and she would have a meeting where the thirty producers would pitch shows. She either said yes or no. Then the thirty producers produced the whole shebang. Oprah never even met the guests before they stepped out on stage, even huge stars. Oprah would then come down to the stage and shoot the show. Even the big "My Favorite Thing" shows were all put together by staff, they presented the "gifts" and she either approved or didn't. Rosie was completely different, she was hands on. Had ideas for guests and shows and wanted it her way, it was her show. The staff was used to getting what they wanted, since they pitched their ideas to Oprah.

by Anonymousreply 216March 21, 2012 1:11 AM

r216 but they were still scared of her every time they pitched something to her, whether an idea for the show or having to tell her that something had gone "wrong".

by Anonymousreply 217March 21, 2012 1:16 AM

Iyanla never worked for Oprah R215. But she came back on her knees begging to be taken back.

by Anonymousreply 218March 21, 2012 1:22 AM

You're missing an important point. Oprah was at least there. Rosie didn't attend meetings and when something went wrong, she blamed everyone else, sort of like her fans.

by Anonymousreply 219March 21, 2012 1:25 AM

r216 ...Not that I disagree with you entirely, however. I agree that the Harpo staff was used to doing things their way and basically running the whole show while Oprah sat on her throne with her lapdog, and they simply didn't want to adjust to a new supervisor with a different way of doing things. Plus a lot of the new people brought in for Rosie were 22-26 years old - not an age group known for its independence, creativity or work ethic.

by Anonymousreply 220March 21, 2012 1:27 AM

It's everyone's fault but Rosie's!

by Anonymousreply 221March 21, 2012 1:32 AM

Rosie cannot express herself because Oprah cut off her website - gone is the blog with years of content and Rosie's silly poems. I knew when that site disappeared (i) Oprah had huge influence on Rosie, and (ii) Rosie didn't really give a shit about her fans.

That was just part of the mental illness, R224

by Anonymousreply 227March 21, 2012 2:24 AM

If Rosie is relieved to be off the air, imagine how the glad American public is.

by Anonymousreply 228March 21, 2012 2:26 AM

Agree, R228. No one wants to see a fat, angry, raging lesbian.

by Anonymousreply 229March 21, 2012 2:27 AM

TMZ covered her party. They know the story. Look at the sign "fiancee" is standing under.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 230March 21, 2012 2:36 AM

Um, Rosie threw and PAID for the party for the staff. It's a combnation birthday/thankyou/farewell party for her OWN staff.

Oprah could have paid for it, really.

by Anonymousreply 231March 21, 2012 3:33 AM
No one wants to see a fat, angry, raging lesbian.

People who talk about another human like that are usually outcasts that need to attack to feel better about themselves.

by Anonymousreply 232March 21, 2012 3:46 AM

And as we know, Rosie has never spoken about another human being in that manner.

by Anonymousreply 233March 21, 2012 3:54 AM

I think she was completely right to question the abilities of that production staff. The Oprah show was consistently poorly executed from a technical standpoint. Atrocious, really.

by Anonymousreply 234March 21, 2012 4:33 AM

Rosie's ratings sucked. Her brand is over. No one wanted to see that angry bull dyke.

by Anonymousreply 235March 21, 2012 10:06 AM

by Anonymousreply 236March 21, 2012 12:13 PM

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ROSIE. WE ALL LOVE AND SUPPORT YOU.

by Anonymousreply 237March 21, 2012 12:52 PM

I love how you guys think Oprah makes all the decisions for OWN and anything OWN does is done by Oprah herself. Oprah travels nonstop and enjoys her billions of dollars..She doesn't have time to run a network.

by Anonymousreply 238March 21, 2012 3:04 PM

What Oprah did to Rosie in this situation is unforgivable.

by Anonymousreply 239March 21, 2012 3:20 PM

What Oprah did was put Rosie on TV and that was indeed unforgiveable.

by Anonymousreply 240March 21, 2012 3:38 PM

You hatehs can laff, but I still have many millyuns of dollahs left! MILLYUNS AND MILLYUNS!

by Anonymousreply 241March 21, 2012 3:45 PM

Right now Oprah is holed up in the safety of her bedroom and is sending out for pies by the dozen.

She hasn't changed out of her nightgown in days. Even though it's covered in pie stains.

Sad, really.

by Anonymousreply 242March 21, 2012 3:50 PM

Oprah is scarfing down her usual 30 pounds of macaroni and cheese. Rosie is on her 12th Sam Adams.

by Anonymousreply 243March 21, 2012 4:08 PM

r220's comment explains a *lot* -- it's the old story about "let's get some young ideas, fresh new faces in here, the kids today know all about tech stuff." Well, they don't, and they don't know how to access and grow a basic cable audience. BTW, if I remember correctly O has had serious problems with Berkus and Dr. Phil (the latter's a piece of work in his own right, but had a massive enough audience that even O couldn't control him.)

by Anonymousreply 244March 21, 2012 4:16 PM

I think the real reason for all this is the fact that Rosie stole a lot of Sherry Salata's food

by Anonymousreply 245March 21, 2012 4:19 PM

Oprah was much more generous and supportive of Nate Berkus than she was of Rosie. She gave Nate's show every chance to succeed, but it failed.

by Anonymousreply 246March 21, 2012 4:22 PM

OWN's new young execs are (were?) probably Discovery Channel execs' children/friends of children/children of friends from "good" schools who would do exactly as they were told. If that's the case, Oprah may not realize that they were told to go play in the sandbox and if OWN didn't fly, so what? The channel was always intended to be folded into the parent company once Oprah got bored.

by Anonymousreply 247March 21, 2012 4:23 PM

R220, those "young kids" obviously had more of a work ethic than Rosie who didn't even show up to meetings. Her Broadway stints were notorious for the number of times she missed performances.

Face it. Rosie bombed. There are other reasons but the primary one is that the American public doesn't like her. At this time, that's really uncontestable.

by Anonymousreply 248March 21, 2012 4:44 PM

I heard Rosie yells at people with her mouth full and food falls out.

by Anonymousreply 249March 21, 2012 4:53 PM

I heard she likes to fart in peoples' faces.

by Anonymousreply 250March 21, 2012 4:54 PM

It could be a good learning moment for Rosie but she has to admit fault. Just like her fanatics believe, she thinks she had no fault in this debacle. And that's why she will fail again and again.

by Anonymousreply 251March 21, 2012 5:41 PM

Ro is one fat fuck!

by Anonymousreply 252March 21, 2012 5:44 PM

r248 -- Rosie's work habits have been an open secret for decades. OWN knew exactly what they were dealing with when they hired her; the show runners' job was to work around her "eccentricities" and make it work. They failed, while turning down other projects that did quite nicely for OWN's competitors.

by Anonymousreply 253March 21, 2012 6:02 PM

Oh, we see, r253: She was totally being the professional one in the situation by screaming and cursing at her show runners; they're the ones who are completely to blame for not liking it.

by Anonymousreply 254March 21, 2012 6:06 PM

Not at all -- but that's what divas *do.* TV stars, law firm partners, producers in an editing booth who punch an innocent PA because they're in a bad mood. The network employees' collective task is to work around the cruel behavior and access the genius that enchants an unwitting audience. Trouble is, Oprah selectd a performer who's been there, done that before and the audience is on to her. They're just not having it.

by Anonymousreply 255March 21, 2012 6:12 PM

"and access the genius that enchants an unwitting audience."

Oh my. Rosie is an enchanting genius????

by Anonymousreply 256March 21, 2012 6:15 PM

Why is it that only women get called out for being difficult? You never hear these stories come out about Leno or Letterman and I'm willing to bet good $$$ that they're just as bad.

by Anonymousreply 257March 21, 2012 6:24 PM

r249, r50, r52=same lesbian-hating troll

by Anonymousreply 258March 21, 2012 6:26 PM

Let's not even pretend that most people can even find OWN in their cable line-ups.

by Anonymousreply 259March 21, 2012 6:30 PM

r256 -- she has -- or had -- a gift of some sort. When a performer can take an audience away from reality, even for a little while, that's a form of enchantment.

by Anonymousreply 260March 21, 2012 6:31 PM
Why is it that only women get called out for being difficult?

Oh, such bullshit!

People talk all the time about how horrible men can be to work with and call them out as difficult: Christian Bale, Val Kilmer, Dustin Hoffman, Edward Norton, Mike Meyers, David O. Russell, Scott Rudin, Harvey Weinstein...

by Anonymousreply 261March 21, 2012 6:35 PM

I suspect that Oprah didn't like the way Rosie treated her staff.

by Anonymousreply 262March 21, 2012 6:46 PM

Martha gets canceled, Whitney dies, now Rosie is over. 2012 is taking down more women than the math portion of the SAT.

by Anonymousreply 263March 21, 2012 6:54 PM
I suspect that Oprah didn't like the way Rosie treated her staff.

It should have been Rosie's staff, not Oprah's.

I'm sure they enjoyed constantly reminding Rosie that's not how Oprah did it.

by Anonymousreply 264March 21, 2012 7:00 PM

Yeah r261, but it's not to the same extent. It seems more personal esp. with Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 265March 21, 2012 7:04 PM

I think Rosie entered this with the best of intentions and seemed to genuinely respect Oprah and want to create a great show. But the stress of under-performing to to her. Rosie's doesn't do well with stress. So she lashed out on her staff.

I'm certain some of Oprah's long-time staff complained to O, making any chance of revamping the show for season 2 even less likely.

by Anonymousreply 269March 21, 2012 11:29 PM

by Anonymousreply 272March 22, 2012 12:14 AM

R271, looks like Ro has either spotted an all-u-can-eat buffet or pussy!

by Anonymousreply 273March 22, 2012 12:22 AM

What's Tommy's take on all this? You just know she'd go straight if Cruise presented weener.

by Anonymousreply 274March 22, 2012 12:28 AM

Same lesbian hating posts. Different day.

Oprah's staff sounded incredibly selfish and childish. So Rosie missed a meeting, BFD. She's an empire. These spoiled brats are lucky they didn't work for someone like Lucille Ball. You'd damn well earn EVERY fucking penny she'd give you or else.

I saw the show where Rosie was introduced to the staff. Thirty year old straight white women and gay white men. All clingy and needy. It was inevitable that "the lesbian" would get thrown under the bus sooner or later. There was already hostility and resentment in the air.

Let's be real: She's not in the position of coddling people, and they should not expect that. That's what therapists are for.

by Anonymousreply 275March 22, 2012 12:38 AM

Ofrah said she was retiring, but that only meant she was leaving Chicago and ABC. How much money does she need? She's sinking her own ship, and that's karma. Rosie was just the puddin' on the Titanic.

by Anonymousreply 276March 22, 2012 5:10 AM

r244 exactly. When Rosie started on OWN in the fall, they were also doing a behind the scenes reality show once a week for a little while where you could see just how inexperienced the staff was. And in the last few months, the talk show has been using as bumpers little behind the scenes snippets where Rosie will ask them about the guests on the show that day. One after the other, they have either never heard of or no nothing about the day's guest. The other day Lily Tomlin was on, and the 20something staffers when asked by Rosie if they were fans of Lily's said, "I don't really know who she is."

There was no way those little twats were going to know how to run a television show and like you said, grow an audience.

Rosie's biggest fault in this was volunteering to do the show in Chicago for Oprah and the Harpo staff instead of building it from NYC.

by Anonymousreply 277March 22, 2012 5:40 AM

R277 - did you see today's episode where they showed Rosie with her staff at the party? All overweight fraus (I kid you not)

by Anonymousreply 278March 22, 2012 5:51 AM

"I don't really know who she is" ??? You walk into a production meeting with your show's host, your corporate parent is a media titan and you think it's a good idea not to have googled the name of that episode's guest? Jeez, if they worked for Harvey Weinstein he'd have them thrown in gutter. These people deserved to be fired. Along with the twit who hired them. What, these losers went to Brown or camp with their kid?

by Anonymousreply 279March 22, 2012 2:54 PM

Cultural knowledge is simply not of interest to anyone under a certain age.

He or she is barely interested even in CURRENT people on the scene (politics, TV, movies, etc.), if those people are not in their own age group.

Watch; today's pre-teens will, in three years' time, have no idea who the Kardashians, George Bush (never mind today's loser Republicans), Jennifer Lopez, Joe Biden, Bill Clinton, Whitney/Britney/GaGa, and everyone else in "the news" are.

But then, they also will have no clue as to who Thomas Jefferson, Tom Paine, Stalin, Hitler, Stephen Hawking, Galileo, King Tut, Alexander the Great, Cortez, and everyone else in history are, never mind the world of entertainment.

by Anonymousreply 280March 23, 2012 10:21 PM

R280, then they should go work in retail or administration. I've said it before and I'll say it again....OWN won't be around in 5 years, and that's being generous.

Miss Winfrey's team are failing her spectacularly.

by Anonymousreply 281March 23, 2012 10:45 PM

Rosie is a has been. Perhaps since her show had such shitty ratings, she has realized that the world is done with this loud BULL DYKE!!!

by Anonymousreply 282March 24, 2012 6:21 PM

Has Rosie been fired? Last I read she was moving the show to NYC.

I hope she starts up her Sirius radio show again - oh the tales she'll tell.

by Anonymousreply 283March 24, 2012 6:59 PM

Gladly take that bet R281. OWN will be around much longer than Rosie. The parent company won't let it fail. The ratings are already higher than Discovery Health, so in that respect, it's doing well.

by Anonymousreply 284March 24, 2012 8:20 PM
OWN will be around much longer than Rosie.

Yeah, Rosie lasted 5 months, and OWN will be around for about 9 more months.

by Anonymousreply 285March 24, 2012 9:17 PM

OWN will not be around by the end of the year.

Their programming is all over the map. Rosie's show had 74 different 'lead ins' for God's sake.

Discovery will not bend over and take it bareback style for much longer because they cannot afford to do so at all. Oprah ain't God! I should know.

by Anonymousreply 286March 24, 2012 9:23 PM
The ratings are already higher than Discovery Health, so in that respect, it's doing well.

OWN costs a lot more to produce than Discovery Health. OWN is bleeding money, and that's why Discovery Communications has stepped in and is running things as of last week.

by Anonymousreply 287March 24, 2012 11:42 PM

I expect Discovery to pull the plug on OWN by summer, unless Oprah ponies up large amounts of cash to keep it afloat.

It would be one thing is the ratings were not there but it was a quiet failure. But the buzz is so shitty that its demise will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

by Anonymousreply 288March 24, 2012 11:48 PM

Rosie has never seemed "nice" to me. Loud and aggressive maybe. The Queen of Nice is a moniker which should go to someone like Dolly Parton.

by Anonymousreply 289March 24, 2012 11:52 PM

Let's be honest. This is all because Rosie's pussy STINKS!!!!

x

by Anonymousreply 290March 24, 2012 11:53 PM

Then let's put it this way, OWN will last longer than Rosie's current relationship.

Startup networks aren't pulled this quickly.

by Anonymousreply 291March 24, 2012 11:53 PM

If Oprah had just done specials and put them on someone else's network, would she not be miles ahead financially? I think she has partnership at OWN and part is owned by old Discovery team? no?

by Anonymousreply 292March 25, 2012 12:04 AM

Discovery has sustained huge losses and Oprah's brand is damaged and taking on water. If you ran Discovery, what would you do?

by Anonymousreply 293March 25, 2012 1:23 AM

I still miss her show.

by Anonymousreply 294March 11, 2013 12:44 AM

I still miss it too. I haven't watched much of OWN since it was cancelled.

by Anonymousreply 295March 11, 2013 12:50 AM

Oprah should have given it more time.

by Anonymousreply 296March 11, 2013 1:25 AM

A friend of mine knew Rosie during her early stand up days in the 80s. She said that Rosie was pretty nice back then, but once she got more fame she turned into a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 297March 11, 2013 4:07 AM

Well, R297, your fucking friend sounds like a real fucking cunt. And who the fuck bumped this goddamned fucking thread, you shit-sucking assholes?

by Anonymousreply 298March 11, 2013 4:35 AM

I'm amazed by people on Datalounge who like her. But there are gay men who like any woman so long as she is obnoxious and loudmouthed and self-centered. God knows Roseanne has her fans here too.

by Anonymousreply 299March 11, 2013 4:55 AM

It's a nanny nanny nanny thread bump because of all those really stupid DL'ers who claimed a year ago that the network would already be gone. It's achieving it's highest ratings and is projected to start turning a profit in the second half of 2013.

Any way you slice it, it's an incredible turnaround for OWN and Winfrey.

by Anonymousreply 300March 11, 2013 5:05 AM

they should bring Rosie back to OWN in some way.

by Anonymousreply 301March 11, 2013 2:49 PM

Get Rosie back on the View to battle Elisabitch!!!

by Anonymousreply 302March 11, 2013 4:03 PM

that would be the greatest day of my gay life.

by Anonymousreply 303March 11, 2013 6:23 PM

It's like people who know nothing about production just looking to demonise Rosie whom, admittedly, is a difficult personality but if they wanted her, they should've been working to develop the kind of production that brings out the best in her. It sounds like OWN was thinking "well, she's not Oprah so we don't have to try to hard we'll just do whatever." That never works.

by Anonymousreply 304March 11, 2013 7:04 PM

What happened to Rosie on OWN was a travesty. They treated her very poorly. I wonder how much she was compensated.

by Anonymousreply 305March 11, 2013 7:09 PM

Rosie will be back in no time, I see her in a successful sitcom. She is quite the actress.

by Anonymousreply 306March 11, 2013 9:22 PM

Rosie's through. She's had flop after flop since the audience found out that Nice Rosie was a mirage. She can't keep her mouth shut so she continually foists her obnoxious personality and observations onto a public that's had it with her. She paints herself as a miserable woman with every appearance, even social media.

She's gained such a bad reputation in the industry that she would now have a hard time getting a show staffed with pros. Sort of like Betty Buckley on Broadway. And incidentally, wasn't she saying she was going to play Hannigan in the "Annie" revival?

By her own admission, she has mental, emotional, addiction and now serious health problems. OWN was the only one who would have her and when she turned out to be poison, they cut her loose fast. The network hasn't suffered one bit since she left and even Rosie's heart attack was met with a nation of yawns.

She's toast.

by Anonymousreply 307March 12, 2013 1:58 AM

Why is she so horrible to staff and angry in general?

by Anonymousreply 308March 12, 2013 2:06 AM

What was her addiction? Hadn't heard that one!

by Anonymousreply 309March 12, 2013 2:20 AM

Her mother die young (liars get cancer!)

Her father molested her (according to some folks here)

Nell Carter was mean to her.

by Anonymousreply 310March 12, 2013 2:21 AM

R309, she claimed to have given up alcohol when her son told her she was drinking too much.

by Anonymousreply 311March 12, 2013 2:25 AM
Nell Carter was mean to her.

When did this happen? Even if it's true, why would Ro even care when Nell's been dead for 10 years?

by Anonymousreply 312March 12, 2013 4:04 AM

I suspect the author of that post was trying to be amusing.

Although Rosie has said she was difficult to work with.

by Anonymousreply 313March 12, 2013 1:16 PM

Its time for Rosie to come back and mix things up.

by Anonymousreply 314March 14, 2013 4:45 PM

Rosie's a bull dyke, and we all know that the bulls have hormones coursing through their bodies of both sexes that are in constant battle with each other. I think that's what makes them so damn mean and ornery.

I worked for a bull once when I was very young. NEVER AGAIN! I actually wanted to murder the fat slob bitch, as did mot of the other people who worked there. The only people she got along with were her few big ol' fat assed bull dyke friends she hired, who were all dumb as rocks.

by Anonymousreply 315March 14, 2013 5:49 PM

gurl...

by Anonymousreply 316July 12, 2014 6:34 PM

Her moods must be even wore now that she's dieting.

Her wife/partner's looks have gone way down since they hooked up. O'Donnell must be hell to live with.

by Anonymousreply 317July 12, 2014 7:35 PM

It's been clear for a very long time that Rosie O'Donnell has serious personal issues. She has no business working in any job that requires her to interact with people as one of its primary requirements. She should never, ever, be anyone's boss. She can't handle having authority without abusing it.

by Anonymousreply 318July 12, 2014 8:12 PM
a miserable woman--dating back to her time in Grease

Please. She's been miserable longer than that. None of the established cast members [italic]Gimme A Break![/italic] got along with her other when she was on it, except for Rosetta LeNoire.

by Anonymousreply 319July 12, 2014 9:21 PM

Did they actually have, like, popularity contests, R319? I'm intrigued.

Part of what I like about Rosie is exactly what others seem to not like about her. She's a man walking around in a woman's body. Men don't trash-talk other men who act like Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 320July 12, 2014 9:26 PM

I don't doubt that Rosie isn't a fucking ray of sunshine. I don't think anyone that famous is (see: Oprah, Ellen, et al).

And she may have brought some of the shit around the fail of the OWN show on herself.

But it was colossally dumb for them not to set it in NYC, to capitalize on Rosie's love of Broadway. While I wish everything wasn't so cookie cutter, the fact is our entertainment industry is still all in LA or NYC, and only Oprah had enough pull to bring people to Chicago.

by Anonymousreply 321July 12, 2014 9:31 PM

A pull that appears to be on the wane

by Anonymousreply 322July 12, 2014 10:00 PM

Love the 'Ask Ro' section of her website!
Men don't trash-talk other men who act like Rosie.

Bullshit. If a man is emotional, erratic and treats his co-workers/employees like shit we talk about it and him.

Ladies have peculiar ideas about men.

by Anonymousreply 324July 12, 2014 11:12 PM

R324, try reading DL sometime. You will almost never see a man called out for these things. It's a favorite DL pastime to create threads about the dreadfulness of a woman who is getting recent attention.

The threads are formulaic. The quotes are never attributed, and if you read them, they're actually quite innocuous. It's always a vague someone who worked backstage who likes to badmouth but is apparently too much of a coward to allow his name to be used.

We're told she yelled at a producer who apparently promised a celebrity Rosie would ask limited questions. How does that go? "Tom Cruise's people have given us a list of questions you can't ask. No questions about Scientology, cosmetic surgery, his height, his Oprah interview, his fake arranged marriages (especially Katie Holmes), his relationship with his children, or his sexuality." When Rosie welcomes Cruise and asks about the weather, viewers get pissed.

by Anonymousreply 325July 13, 2014 12:11 AM

Just completely untrue, R324. Sumner Redstone is widely lionized for being a crazy asshole.

by Anonymousreply 326July 13, 2014 12:34 AM

Just read the OP. I don't think any of that is bad. She's in charge of a show. She needs things to be a certain way and she needs people to get it done. You have to put some fear in your employees.

by Anonymousreply 327July 13, 2014 1:10 AM

r327 = Rosie

Your employees were seasoned professionals who worked for the best in TV, which only better highlights how awful you were.

by Anonymousreply 328July 13, 2014 1:17 AM

"Hey, my blood sugah's goin' down!

YOU THERE! YOUSE BETTUH GET ME A WHOLE PACK A' SNO-BALLS, AND ALSO A' LITTLE DEBBIES! AN' I WANNEM YESTADAY! DIDJA HEAH ME?!"

--Rosie, to her terrified assistant backstage at "the View," very very soon

by Anonymousreply 329July 13, 2014 1:18 AM

r329, they would be Ring Dings, Yodels and Devil Dogs. Are you headless?

by Anonymousreply 330July 13, 2014 2:22 AM

Ask Ro!

by Anonymousreply 331July 13, 2014 9:57 PM

Just read the Ask Ro! link for laughs and I see that Rosie O. is a fan of scam artist Ellen Hicks (Abraham Hicks). This along with her 9/11 was an inside job shtick...lol.

by Anonymousreply 332July 13, 2014 10:13 PM

Oh gee, an angry, violent dyke... Who would have thought?

by Anonymousreply 333July 13, 2014 10:18 PM

Keep reading, r332, a lot of what I have against her I read on her site or twitter. And she's not nearly as liberal as people give her credit, she's not even a Democrat anymore. Lou Dobbs talked her into registering as an Independent, and when CNN fired him for racist comments, she defended him.

by Anonymousreply 334July 13, 2014 10:30 PM

Rosie is extremely nice and showers her helps with expensive gifts. Frequently. What your hearing just comes from disgruntled employees who were let go because they got greedy w/r/t the gifts. Rosie is actually very lovable and kind to all, including small animals.

by Anonymousreply 335July 13, 2014 10:54 PM

How is Rosie reacting to Trump's recent popularity? The View made a huge error in not inviting her back this season.

by Anonymousreply 336September 18, 2016 8:57 AM

The failure of that show had absolutely NOTHING to do with Rosie.

by Anonymousreply 337September 18, 2016 9:03 AM

What do you expect from a dyke

by Anonymousreply 338January 3, 2018 11:27 AM

We are still talking about this even after Oprah no longer owns OWN?
[R62], isn't it possible that Rosie could be a lesbian AND a mental case? She's already admitted to depression, OCD, ADD and alcoholism.

That's not because she's a lesbian, it's because she's Irish.

by Anonymousreply 340January 3, 2018 11:57 AM

She is amazing on SMILF for those who haven't seen it
