Sharing a joint will get you 9 months in jail in Canada!
That is the law in Canada as of today.
So if a cop sees you sharing a joint with someone, you can get arrested and spend nine months in jail doing hard time.
That is considered trafficking.
Growing one pot plant in your home will get you the same sentence, nine months in jail.
Every pot plant the cops find will get you an additional six months.
The war on drugs is very serious in Canada!
This is so ridiculous. We went from toying with legalization 10 years ago to this.
Fortunately, when it goes to court, it'll be struck down.
Who is going to take it to court? There are mandatory minimums now. You get caught with a joint, nine months in the slammer!
Canadians voted the Evangelical PM, Stephen Harper, into office. They now pay the price.
Democracy does not guarantee good government, only the right to choose government.
what about bogarting it all for yourself?
This can't actually be true right? A mandatory 9 month jail sentence for a joint?
Canada's penal system would be completely overrun.
Is this why you never speak to that guy from Seattle any more?
R5 that is what critics are saying, but Canada is taking a step backwards. This is all window dressing to appease the conservative base.
don't smoke pot if you go to Canada!
No r8 it should be don't smoke in public. There would have to be a cop at every door step for this to take place.
But if a cop sees you sharing a joint that is a MANDATORY 9 month sentence for trafficking drugs.
I know there are pot smokers who voted conservative. I hope they get arrested first.
WTF is this seriously true?
All the weed I smoke comes down from Canada. Skunk nothing special.
Anyway I really thought it was mostly decriminalized up there. I thought it had been that way for a while.
Really thought they were more progressive up there, hmmmm, seems they only want all their citizens to be fucked up alcoholics, just like in the good ol' US of A where you can legally drink yo ass to death.
Baked as I type
If Willie Nelson was busted with weed, the law would have no choice but to jail him for nine months.
That is the law now in Canada.
Did this cause a rift between Bea and Betty?
thats ucked up
[quote] thats ucked up
So are you, apparently.
Well stick to the one-hitter then. Thanks for the tip!
I admit it's no 'three strikes' law, but we're trying!
They didn't choose him. Dominion Voting Systems did. It was a Trojan horse. Beware of Greeks bearing gifts has never been more true.
Sumthin funny going on here
Bumping up for 4/20 2013
This is reminding me of the old Canadian "found in" laws (I think they're no longer valid?) where if you were at a bar, and there was ANY "lewd" activity (such as fellatio) on the premises, you were guilty of a crime for being there. Period. Minding your own business having a drink = criminal conviction for "morals".
What if you just share the smoke with someone and don't pass the joint. I remember doing this years ago, blowing a big hit into someone else's lungs or something like that. I have forgot the specifics except straight guys would do this with each other.
Don't be an idiot, R23. It would be the same. If this is true about the mandatory minimums for nonviolent drug offenses, the SuperMax executives are wetting themselves in glee. They see big profits ahead in Canada.
Doesn't Canada have anything like habeas corpus, R2?
420 in Vancouver Centre just a few hours ago - not sure what OP is talking about.
Neither the police ,the courts, municipal governments, provincial governments nor the majority of Canadian citizens are interested in enforcing these laws.
