He recently got divorced, R13, so ya never know...
Danza seems like a nice guy who is also aware if his limits as an actor. Was it himself or someone else who started the story that all of his tv actors were named Tony because he would forget to respond to cues when they had other names.
I guess that's something he and Joey Lawrence have in common, R21. Well, that and their amazing asses.
[quote]Danza seems like a nice guy
Are you being serious?
Remember his nasty homophobic remarks about Ellen & Anne?
Or how about how he made life a living hell on WTB for that child actor who played "Billy" near the end of the series run?
What are you talking about R23?
Katharine Helmond said the kid was let go because he wasn't comfortable with being on the set and all that goes with it. Plus, the audience never took to him.
I thought it had emerged that Danza had hired Ken Ryker back in the day. it was common knowledge.
I never heard about the Billy thing, R23. Do tell more. I always thought that little kid was like a mini-me Tony, even down to the voice. This is what little Billy looked like in later years...
I don't think Alyssa ever went through an awkward stage in her life.
She was a bit thick in the early '90s, and then there was that time in the '80s where she wore braces, but all in all, Alyssa really never had an awkward period.
Oh yeah, she did have a thick period, but she was cute thick even when she had the short, blonde hair in that godawful movie about the twins.
You have to admit Honor Blackman (Pussy Galore) would have been a much better Mona than Katharine Helmond.
LOL R29, that was exactly the movie I was talking about, too (Double Dragon). She was also thick on The Long Island Lolita Amy Fisher TV movie.
R31 - Amy Fisher was no twig. Maybe it was for the role.
I liked the show, but I think the Tony/Angela romance was unnecessary. I feel the same about Monica and Chandler and Niles and Daphne from Frasier. Some romances don't really work, but every show seems to push two leads together.
I actually think the Tony/Angela romance was what really made the show click. Tony and Judith had great chemistry together, and I loved to tune in to see if they'd finally come out and confess their love for one another.
Honor Blackman played the "Mona" role in the English version of WTB. Ran for years. Can't remember what it was called.
Really, R34? I used to get the strong impression that Tony Danza thought Judith Light was too ugly for him as a love interest.
I once saw a Who's the Boss retrospective, and Tony talked about how another actress came in and read before Judith, and there was absolutely no chemistry. When Judith came in, he flirted, there was chemistry, and the rest was history. I think that Tony's the type of guy where if he wasn't attracted to the actress, he wouldn't have flirted with her to begin with.
Judith Light is a vastly underrated actress.
A bit corny, OP? I love that in a show.
I never understood why Tony put up with Angela. I always thought she was ugly as sin, cold, and scary. For some reason the actress radiated evil to me.
R35 "The Upper Hand."
R38, don't worry. The beacon of her own self-esteem radiates a great distance and illuminates all in its glare.
It's on TV Land right now. Tony is STUFFED into those tight pants. I want to dig into his ass like a Thanksgiving turkey.
I didn't realize Katherine Helmond had played Emma Borden in "The Legend of Lizzie Borden" (with Elizabeth Montgomery).
Milano was never "thick."
You ana-Queens need to give it a rest.
The Upper Hand was the UK version of Who's The Boss.
Saw Tony Danza in person about a year ago. He was waaaay too thin, but seemed outgoing and friendly.
Yeah, he's gotten thinner as he's gotten older. He used to have a real phatty.
I find the Blackman as Mona story hard to believe. While she's pretty much a national treasure in England, Honor Blackman never made it in Hollywood. If she was on the list, I imagine it was far below the likes of, say, Stella Stevens.
Thank you R47 - but she does look good, even when thick. Weight goes to her ass.
R38. I'dhqrdly call Light underrated, as she just won a Tony last month (and well-deserved, too)!
Such a brilliant idea for a show.
A faghag mom, her gay son, and her drag queen mother take in a closeted prizefighter and his teenage straight daughter. Hilarity ensues.
"Lisa Klugman: But you never really needed a drastic body makeover or anything ...
Alyssa Milano: Rent Double Dragon. I was 15 pounds heavier, and that is a lot for someone who's just 5'2". I looked stocky. I lost the weight, was working out, but I hit a plateau, until I started working with Gunnar [Peterson, my trainer]. I think it's his method - he fatigues the muscles until you're burned out. I'll do 40 minutes of cardio and then I'll circuit-train. He believes in constantly shocking the system. You can't get too used to any type of exercise because you won't see the results."
[quote]Remember his nasty homophobic remarks about Ellen & Anne?
I never heard about that. Can someone elaborate?
Wasn't he a rent boy from the Haymarket on 8th Ave back in the 70s? He's no stranger to pinga. He was at that bar in Chelsea used to be called The Works, had his driver drop him while he had a drink, that story was on here.
Nothing "thick" in here but your heads.
R65 has been smoking way too much ganja.
Or was it The Break? Now called or was called The View! I would eat Danza's ass like a cannoli.
We mean "thick" in a good way, R65. You must be hopelessly white.
Hold me closer, Tony Danza!
[quote]I would eat Danza's ass like a cannoli.
AND how! He had the perfect rentboy/rough trade ass--tight, round and firm. He always showed if off in skintight jeans on Taxi and WTB.
I kept thinking why does Angela keep saying, "My son," when Danny Pintauro is clearly a girl.
Who knew huh?
R78 - I suspect Alyssa is happy with the size of her career, and didn't want to become a movie star.
Great cap, R79. I had forgotten that we got a full body shot of Tony in that "shower commercial" scene. I don't think he's huge in the cock dept., but his luscious ass more than makes up for it.
As for Alyssa's career, I think she's done great. How many TV-based actors can say they've been on three successful shows (WTB?, Melrose Place and Charmed)? The girl is likely loaded.
I love Alyssa, R82, but I think it's a stretch to include MP. She was only on it for a season or two in its declining years. That Alyssa was on WTB and Charmed for their entire runs are much bigger accomplishments.
Very true, R83. Even two long-running shows is an accomplisment. Her residual checks probably look VERY nice.
Who's the Boss? will be back in a minute. Stick around.
I'm sure she's racking in the bucks just through syndication.
Ditto to whoever commented about Tony and Judith's chemistry, it was definitely there. I remember one scene where Tony was play-acting that he was a hairdresser and lifted up Angela's hair into a chignon and their back-and-forth chatter seemed improvised and very natural and charming.
Ditto too, about Judith's acting chops. I saw something on TV once where they describe a scene from One Life To Life in the late 70's, her character Karen freaks out on the stand and apparently it is voted highly on lists of best dramatic TV performances of all time. That same special also said that her scene was frequently used in acting classes in the 80's and 90's for teaching purposes for potential TV actors.
I remember this drama seemed play out over a week, I was 8 but I remember my sisters talking about it. Amazingly the scene below looks like it was taped in one take, I guess that's how it goes with daytime TV budgets. But I really think she did an awesome job.
Judith is a WONDERFUL actress. Much better than some bonafide movie stars of today. The chemistry between her and Tony was one of the best things about the show. I loved seeing them being madly in love, but pretending not to be. There's an episode where they almost make out or have sex, but not quite, and at the end, they're discussing what would happen if they ever went "all the way". Tony looks at her and says, "I'd want you to remember it. And you WOULD." And she deadpans back, "So would you..." Classic.
Judith's judge was one of the most interesting characters on L&O:SVU. I've always liked her as an actress and consider her vastly underrated.
I've met Judith Light a couple of times and she is a lovely, lovely person.
[quote]She should not go short and blonde again.
Exactly. Alyssa should stick to tall and dark. No more short roles for her.
Lyss Jayne has some of the fastest growing hair I've ever seen. She can cut it thisshort, and in no time it'll be all the way back down her back (sans extensions).
Alyssa uses Wen by Chaz Dean. Her hair will always look great from now on.
Alyssa can also look stunning with a crewcut to waist length hair, either duly or straight.
Alyssa was on Wendy Williams last year, and Wendy asked her if she had tracks (extensions) in her hair, and she said nope. She's since cut it just past shoulder length again, but I hope she lets it get all the way down her back again.
Tony is gay. I (I know, I know) had a friend back in the late 80's/early 90's who was a massage "therapist" and Tony was a client of his. He would expect a happy ending every time. One time (the last time my friend "serviced" him), as my friend reached for his dick, Tony bolted up and clocked my friend in the face and started screaming and yelling about him being a faggot and he wasn't into that and he wasn't gay blah blah blah. Sounded like a real freak if you ask me.
Just old enough to remember Who's The Boss
Wow, that's weird. He expected (and got) a hand job every time, but the last time he freaked out about it? I do believe that Tony is, in the very least, bi. I mean, LOOK at him...
I'm watching the episode now where Angela and Tony are trapped at a dingy motel because of a storm and forced to sleep in a pajama top (her) and bottom (him) with obviously nothing on underneath. How they managed NOT to fuck is a mystery.
No mystery, R105 - Angela forgot her strap-on.
would love to fuck Tony's tight ass
Me too, R108. It's like Tony had it written in his contract in the '80s that he'd ONLY wear tight pants. All the better to show off his perfect bubble butt. If no man has ever tapped that, it'd be a crime.
Alyssa turns 40 tomorrow!
Tony has a real hairy bush and fat uncut cock fucked him back in the 80s
Tony has a hairy hole
Tony made me lick his hairy hole
Tony made everyone do that, Danny.
Happy birthday Alyssa.
I could not stand Angela. KH made the show watchable.
Ditto. R116. Mona was the boss.
the opening song is cloying and perfectly awful. The depiction of the advertising world is lame.
Tony was always a bossy bottom
Danza has made homophobic comments going back to his "Taxi" days (e.g. how disgusting it was to get fan mail from men).
He's also been rumored to be closeted. Of course, the former doesn't preclude the latter. On the contrary, it makes it more plausible.
I only saw WTB recently. They were running reruns on TV Guide channel. Light is great on SVU and Ugly Betty but was wasted here. Helmond got off the only good lines, largely because of her delivery.
I didn't see it as a child so I don't have any fond memories of it to mitigate its silliness.
Every once in a while the re-runs will pop up again. I haven't seen them in several months.
