• r27, I posted that in another Kirk Cameron thread here. Many years ago, when Leo was just starting to get famous in movies, he did an interview where he said he hated working on 'Growing Pains' because everybody was so fake and phony it drove him nuts. Leo was cast in GP only because the youngest son on the show (I forget his name), who was cute as a kid, had turned into such an ugly teenager TPTB on the show knew there was no teen idol potential for him. They needed a cute teenager to keep the adolescent girls interested and they knew the fuggo kid was hopeless in that respect, so they found Leo.

True Hollywood story them talking about how he made the show a nightmare after he became "born again" and acted like he was above everyone.

• Kirk was actually a down to earth guy at the start of the show. But he partied heavily the first couple of years (drinking and maybe some drugs), and apparently got carried away enough to have some sort of ephiphany. The producers claim he changed drastically over one summer hiatus, when he rediscovered religion. He came back more strict and not as laid back and fun loving as he used to be. He refused to do anything remotely risque and even called the producers "Pornographers" at one point over some storyline involving one of the characters having sex. A blond actress was fired from the show (She played the unwed teenage mom on GOLDEN GIRLS) because she did Penthouse, and Kirk was extremely disgusted by it and demanded either she left or he did. Enter Chelsea Noble, whom he later married. The Cameron family was always into religion, but Kirk went to the extreme. He thinks Darwin is a quack and that evolution doesn't exist. Candace is religious but a lot more down to earth and liberal in her beliefs.

• R50, that's your opinion and I'm sure there are a few others who'd agree, but overall, he wasn't considered a teen idol. Whereas Kirk was all over the teen mags and whatnot, Jeremy was not. He clearly wasn't the object of teen girls' affections. Leo was most certainly hired to attract the young girls who were over the aging Kirk and who weren't into Jeremy in the first place. As a side note, I'm also about Jeremy's age and I always thought he was gross.
