In March, I'll be going to Las Vegas for the first time. I'm going for work (a conference) and will only be there Monday evening through Friday morning.
I've heard there's not much "gay" to Las Vegas. Has that changed? Is there anywhere interesting and fun to go to as a gay male tourist?
I looked things up and I saw one bar near the strip, but it seems to be very drag-oriented... bleh. Not into drag shows, or anything like that.
Any suggestions? Stories? Ideas? Any must-sees or must-dos?
Check out Nomi Malone in Goddess. You'll never forget it.
...anyone? Surely some of you guys have been to Las Vegas!
[quote]Surely some of you guys have been to Las Vegas!
Of course, but Vegas is really, really not about the gays.
I know that... which is why I'm asking for ANYTHING anyone knows that might make it something other than a very very heterosexual weekend.
You have to go away from the strip to find the gay stuff. It's very carnie folk out there.
Any reviews of the "Secret Gentlemens Club"?
That's not too far off the strip.
Ask a Vegas question, get a vague-ass answer.
W&W for R8
I always go to Pahrump for my big gay weekends. It's your base camp to adventure.
I understand the Wynn Hotel has a dedicated concierge for gay guests. He might help you.
"Secret Gentlemen's Club" will be a big letdown. They've gone straight.
Really, the site doesn't seem to indicate that...
And R10, I won't be there on the weekend, unfortunately. Weeknights only. Monday night through Thursday night.
And R11, I'm staying at Bally's I think.
Just make your corner of Vegas gay. Pick up someone in the casino or bar, take him up to your room, and gay the place up!
Two friends of mine in Vegas say they were menaced/harassed walking through the area between Old Vegas and the Strip. They aren't even that obviously gay.
I never got a gay-nice vibe from that place, but I hope I'm wrong. Have a good time and report back.
The area between downtown Vegas and the strip is no-man's land for anyone. What possessed you to make that trip on foot?
Vegas is both so gawdy and sleazy in a straight way. The Strip especially brings out the trashiness in most people, like just being there is a free ticket to act to like a douche or skank. I never understand why straight people go ape-crap crazy excited about Vegas.
R13, this doesn't look like a straight club to you?
Okay, so any NON-gay things that are "must-see" when I'm there?
I'm not really into gambling, so I'm looking for some way to spend my time and find an excuse to escape co-workers.
OP - don't mind those fools. There are a couple of options:
Share Night CLub is fairly new and is open everyday, also Krave by Planet Hollywood is also open.
There is a "don't tell mam" if you wat piano bar / cabaret and is an extension of the New York bar (it's at Fremont Street)
I like Charlie's for a local/countrywestern feel. - it' s a small bar right off the strip.
Weird, R18... I googled just today and it came up in the list of gay bars. And a couple of days ago I googled the site, and it was definitely a gay site.
So... anything like The Eagle, or sleazy leather bar? Not looking for drag or piano-bar style bars.
Jeez, that's "Don't Tell Mama," of course, which is an offshoot of the bar on Restaurant Row in NYC
ANd there is a gay area, called Fruit Loop, which is really justt a stretch of two mini-mall areas.
Charlie's would be yiur best bet, and it's not touristy at all, and very low key
Hrm. Not much into country, but Charlie's Wednesdays looks like it has possibilities:
If you go to a show, see "Zumanity." It's Cirque's overtly sexy show and in one part 2 incredibly hot guys make out.
OP, I'll be in town around the same time for a convention. Here's the deal, if you want to see gay local life, you will need to rent a car or spend a few bucks on cabs, because the bars are spread out all over town.
They do have an Eagle, but it's not like a typical Eagle, it's more of a locals hang out to play video poker games, BUT on Wed and Fri nights they have an underwear night that can be fun.
The hot local hangout is called Fun Hog Ranch and it's a few blocks off the strip in an iffy neighborhood. Usually has a fun crowd and friendly bartenders.
The Buffalo is an old reliable pick up place. A few blocks from Hard Rock, but it's hard to say when the place will be crowded because Las Vegas has a whole different rhythym than most gay night life (The locals that work in the hotels have all nights shifts etc)
Charlies, mentioned above is a fun place, but is usually dead on weeknights. Sunday is their big day for T Dance.
There are tons of little gay dives which can be hit or miss, but since you have a whole week, you can explore. Snick's place downtown is especially good, this is a truw museum of gay life. This is ground zero for Earrings.Caftans.
Well... reading the review of "Share" online, I think I'll need to take a pass on that one.
Anyone have anything else?
Swing by the Corbin Fisher pad. Bring $$$$.
Give me the address, and I will :-P
Sound like a boring place this Vegas.
Share is the most boring strip club I've ever been to. No strip shows, and the dancers don't ever hustle you for a dance.
Charlie's on Wednesday has some hot gogo dancers and free drinks if you're in your underwear. It's the busiest night during the week there.
Krave on Wednesday is fun - low key, drag shows, but fun. On Tuesday they are 18+ and busy.
Monday night I'd recommend going to Blue Martini - it's a straight bar with a gay night.
Tuesday you can go to the martini mixer. I never go - I don't have enough sweaters. Google "trendy tuesdays martini mixer" for an idea.
Piranha is fun on Wednesday (Latin night) and Thursday (boys night). Plus, on Thursday, Free Zone across the street also has boys night.
The bathhouses - both of them - are the two lamest ones I've ever been to. Stay home and masturbate or get a craigslist hookup first. If you must go, Entourage has a pool and you can at least relax in the spa. Hawk's has more of a leather vibe and actually has some equipment.
If the weather's nice and you have daytime off, you can go to the Blue Moon and get some sun on your balls.
The hours in Vegas throw tourists for a loop. Most of the locals go out early or very, very late.
Stop by the Cosmopolitan and say "hi" while you're here.
Thanks! My flight leaves in a couple of hours... great timing!
Wednesday night sounds cool except that I have to give a presentation at 8am the next morning.
We'll see how that goes :-P
So how was it OP?
Been thinking about a quick trip out there myself. Only been once before.
I'm going to stay at Encore. Yes it's gauche and all but I kinda like it. And I'm really impressed by their efforts to court gay guests.
