However, because there was so little meat in the actual coming out speech, the press just sort of took what they had and ran with it. I know the ratings have been down in general this season for White Collar, and for most of the shows competing against it at 10:00 p.m. Sounds like some people are bored, and some would watch if it wasn't up against other things they like better. I think it's a bad idea to have these 6 week mid-winter seasons, and 10:00 pm is not a good time slot for it. One thing to keep in mind is that the show also gets shown in a lot of overseas markets, and there's no way to know how it is still doing in those markets. I just hope Matt doesn't take the blame for it, although all of the comments center on bad writing and actors they don't like.

• Ratings are down because the writing is terrible, not because of him coming out. Even in comment sections about ratings being down people continue to say that they love Matt but the writing is horrible. I never did like the show when I first saw it a long time ago, so I can only imagine how bad it is now.

• It's very uneven, which doesn't help. This week's episode was a lot better, more like the first season, with more emphasis on the bromance, but yeah, it's been dropping week by week, and not having a show on last week probably hurt too.

• After Bomer came out I decided to watch some Season 1 episodes and I also watched the new episodes On Demand. Unless Season 2 was fucking fantastic, it seems like the quality is about the same, which is not a complement. It's very shallow. It has the look and rhythm of a luxury car commercial. The episodes all feel the same. I just finished watching Tuesday's episode ten minutes ago and I barely remembered what happened. For a drama to hook you, to keep you coming back, the characters need to develop as people, in every episode. White Collar is so loaded with exposition that it doesn't have time (or motivation?) to make the characters rounded. (I would be genuinely curious if somebody was willing to actually measure what percentage of the dialogue was spent explaining each episode's plot.) Bomer and company give it their all, but at the end of the day there's very little there there.
