Hitler and Stalin banned guns?
No they didn't. Germany did have some gun control laws left over from Weimar but Hitler did not change them.
whoever fusses about gun control laws is a psychotic. ONLY the blowhards in the US fuss about them.
And Obama's support for gun control is tepid anyway.

Obama has made zero plans to do anything on the issue of gun control, and has done nothing while in office.
The notion that Obama is "coming for their guns" is one of the more bizarre delusions that right-wingers live under.
Doesn't matter if it's true. Only matters if it works, not that many of us gun nuts were exactly pining for Obama to begin with.
Obama didn't say a word about the need for gun control after the shooting of Gabrielle Giffords. Pretty appalling lack of courage.

One of the only Democrats I've seen whose had the guts to give a passionate speech about the effects of gun violence is John Lewis. Several years ago I saw him speak in the House about all the mothers he's had to hold in his arms over the years who've had children killed by guns.

And neither has Obama.
Hence, the comparison - as limited and ridiculous as it is - might be technically an apt one. But it's coming, ironically, from people against gun control, not for it.

Well, they really made leverage with the scandal surrounding guns and his attorney general, Eric Holder.

Talker Thom Hartmann made a good argument yesterday that the extremism in NRA on this matter is coming pretty much from arms manufacturers and dealers, not the rank and file members. Once again, unhinged corporations and their various tools are driving the clown car.
These days, I'm frequently reminded what true masters of propaganda and control some of these people are.
Let's be clear. Gun control isn't Obama's issue, probably because he knows the wingnuts and NRA are itching to paint him as taking away their guns.
The NRA should be ashamed of the violence it's helped perpetrate on this country. Instead, they raise tons of bucks off scaring the ignorant that a black president wants to confiscate their guns.
The issue is useless white trash. Useless white trash who would right now be blaming all black people or all Muslims or all Hispanics if Holmes was from any one of those groups.
Instead, useless white trash have now claimed Holmes was actually a leftwing plot by Obama to take away their guns.
They need to do the country a favor and off themselves. They produce nothing but bile.
Obama has been more NRA-friendly of a PResident than anyone in the last two decades. It's insane that the gun-nuts and NRA hate him so much. This guy is practically an NRA wet-dream.
I hope Obama wins re-election.

Obama is not a gun control president. I wish he were.
The only reason he is being compared to Hitler and Stalin - and the only reason he is being shat on constantly for any reasons that make no sense at all - on the issue of gun control, is because, to supporters of gun control he is seen as threatening.

Obama is showing better than expected strength in the the swing states among young white males with less than college educations.
Naturally these voters are heavy gun owners.

Guns used to be carried my every man in this country. Before video games boys played guns and with army soldiers. The smokescreen is blowing. Automatic rifles kill less people than hands, fists and knees. There's only one reason to take away guns and the Founding Fathers (and Stalin) new this. Tyranny can only exist when there is an unarmed population. Sad that so many American's these days know, or any longer care for this important ideal. It's funny though, the Founding Father's predicted that might happen and in becoming so, would be the end of this great democratic experiment that was the USA.

No one needs an excuse. He is at the minimum a socialist. But he is looking more and more like a Marxist everyday.
Laugh all you want at someone talking about the past. But history is from which we can learn lessons. The constitution isn't some old out of date document. It's a genius piece of work meant to insure freedom and that the government works for US! Don't treat it lightly!
The first and ten amendments insure your freedom. Don't give ANY of them up!
Nobody is "giving up" their right to own a gun, hysterical person at R27. You do not need to own an assault rifle and use it to kill humans if you're not a soldier in a war zone. If you really, really need to kill a person, there are any number of other guns that will kill a person or several people, if you are trained to use them. If you aren't, you shouldn't have a gun anyway. Guns are not toys.
Assault weapons are for mowing down a lot of people. Why do you need to do that in a theater or a school? The other stated purpose of right wingers is so they can overthrow the government. First, the goverment is not going to just stand there and allow you to overthrow it because you and your buddies have assault weapons. They have these things called tanks and bombs and an army. They were specifically designed and paid for just to stop guys with assault weapons.
Second, we have actually had a group of people that decided to have a revolution because the hated the American government. It was called the Civil War. Thousands of people died, entire cities burned to the ground, and in the end, the goverment won. If the point of the Civil War was to preserve slavery and states rights, well, here we are. No slaves, a black President, Jim Crow laws gone, according to a Federal Supreme Court ruling. The President sent the National Guard to integrate schools by force, thereby proving there is a limit to "states' rights."
If the South decided to secede today, everybody north of the Mason Dixon line would say, don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, except for Pres. Obama, ironically. They aren't worth the drama. That's what we learned from all that death and loss.
