He's a fucking priest, which means he's either a virgin, a pedophile, a liar, a hypocrite, a sycophant of Joey the rat, a mooch or some combination of those things.
And if he did indeed get his material from DL, he's a plagiarist, liar and thief, too.
Furthermore, let's see him display one-tenth the talent Streep contains in her little finger.
A fucking low-life priest.
Jesuits are not Darth Rat's biggest fans...
"Furthermore, let's see him display one-tenth the talent Streep contains in her little finger"
Ah - now we see where you are coming from.
No, I'm not a Streep fan, R2, nor a Jesuit. I just hate assholes who criticize accomplished people when they could never approach that person's level of ability.
And I hate Christians who claim to follow what are said to be the teachings of Jesus, but in reality are just hypocrites.
Shouldn't a priest be out feeding the hungry or tending to the sick or assisting the poor in some way instead of writing a blog post about whether an Oscar nominee is really a good actress?
HE'S the Jesuit - not you...
He sounds like a huge KA-WEEEEN!
He's probably that loony gotta-be-a-priest troll who's always defending Catholicism, the "Holy Father", and blathering about "the one True Church".
Most of the Jesuit Fathers I knew at Loyola Academy where Jake Martin teaches were good priests as well as open-minded and well-educated men. However, comedians they were not…
Like there's a question about the Rev. Miss Martin's bona fides?
His review comes across as a conniving attempt to do 2 things at once: admit the truth, which is that Streep is a better actor, but at the same time trash her with some invented vague perceptual idea so that he can push his personal resentment of her superiority.
He makes a strong argument. I get his point(s), but I still love Meryl and enjoy watching her performances.
This public pose that Streep is some cold technician whose performances are intricate but empty marvels is 'received wisdom'. Influenced by Pauline Kael, who described her acting as only "from the neck up"? Or maybe from Katharine Hepburn's "Click click click" quote? Watch The Hours and get back to me.
I'm not a Streep troll. I don't think she's above criticism, but this priest's (hardly original) stance seems as rote as he accuses her of being. She has an ear, which helps with accents, but there's far more to it than that.
I haven't seen The Iron Lady - a wait for DVD (or not) if ever there was one - but, come on!
On Inside the Actor's Studio, she was asked about this, and she was baffled: she said she doesn't understand what she does - she just does it, which would belie all this talk of calculated choices and sterile showmanship.
Yes, I know - "Mary!" But the priest is a MARY Mary!
I was raised Catholic but I'm agnostic -- have been all of my adult life. Yeah, he's probably gay. But so what. Not all priests are evil child abusing creatures. There were some good and kind priest in my life. (None were funny, however!) He can be gay and he can be a priest. And priests don't have to spend every waking moment doing priestly things. He's allowed to write film criticism if he wants to.
