I have a theory that because straight men are considered 'alpha', and put on a pedestal, pampered- that they are able to focus on things better. Like they don't have a worry in the world to interfere with their concentration. And that may read as smarter.
That sounds credible to me, R3. If you are considered the default human, you don't worry about being taken seriously by others as women or gay men might. It's about confidence.
Why are gay men obsessed with straight men?
Can someone make this thread please?
[quote]I have a theory that because straight men are considered 'alpha', and put on a pedestal, pampered- that they are able to focus on things better.
That's ridiculous. Not all straight men are "alpha," nor are all gay men "beta," nor by any stretch are all straight men "put on a pedestal" and "pampered." This is an absurd overgeneralization.
This message board proves the exact opposite. Sorry.
R5, gay men are obsessed with women too.
r1 = straight man.
Most men generally overrate their intelligence and looks.
Indeed, R10. Check the comments of any "HBD" (human biodiversity/IQ fetishism) blog for proof.
You'd never know it from this joint.
I agree with R7.
Why? Because straight men have too much invested in maintaining privilege, so they can't look at social issues honestly. And when your world is full of taboos and shadows that you dare not look at, then you are basically just a follower, not fit for leadership.
Because it is necessary for survival in a homophobic world.
They aren't. A lot of gay men have Tracy Flick Syndrome--they think they're smarter, wittier, and more sophisticated than most other people; however, at the end of they day they're just trying to escape. What they're trying to escape from can differ from case to case, but usually their lives are masked by a pretense meant to obscure humble roots, lifelong struggles with weight, strained relations with family members, or omnipresent feelings of loneliness.
What bullshit R16, spoken like a subnormal retard, which it happens you are, but we've been kind because you're straight.
Straight men have to use a fair amount of their brain developing strategies to get laid.
Uneducated and/or less intelligent men are less likely to come out.
I used to think gay men were smarter, but this site disproves my lazy assumption daily.
If you are born white, straight, and at least upper middle class and don't go on to become a senator...you failed.
But seriously, r19 has part of the reason. Also, smarter might not be the right use of language as the outward criteria of smartness is weighted towards qualities of cultivated appearance and verbal skill and expressiveness. Gay men tend to fair better when these exterior traits are judged. We are the best at faking these qualities too.
Straight men are too narrowly focused on football, beer, and big tits to appreciate what really matters in life.
Like the revival of FOLLIES!
Gays are the most creative forces on the planet.
Always have been - always will be, regardless of what the Jesus freaks say.
Any successful company in a creative field (Entertainment, Design, Marketing, Fashion etc.) knows this well.
When it comes to the arts, fashion, etc. we are smarter. When it comes to politics, NO!
Politics is like gossip to most, they don't really understand the damage of not learning the game.
Some Lesbians seem to be pretty good and fixing and building stuff.

From my experience, lesbians make great engineers.
Gay guys are excellent at music, fine art, marketing, PR, athletics, and healthcare.
All from my experience though.
Gay men smarter than str8 men? Get the fuck out of here. They masy be more deceiving but not smarter. Decievingm to huide the fact that they're gay? YES !!!!!

Have you seen RuPaul's Drag Race ?
OP is begging the question.
I really hate this. I hate it more than anything.
I noticed that in families where the sons are worshiped and the daughters left to themselves, the gals turn out to be better and smarter people.
I think that is the same case in a society that worships straight, white, men.
The outsider experience and perspective (if it doesn't make you insane), makes you smarter. You are constantly observing and analyzing things. Someone not in the position of the outsider does not do that.
Insightful comments, R34
Semen is brain food.
R34 nails this.
I also think that many straight men operate out of fear, in a competitive way. Gay men are less lizard-brainish than many straight men, although you can't generalize too much.
I think cum is the answer. Lots of DHA and omega 3's. Suck it up!
OP proved at least one exception of his 'theory' in his initial post.
Oh my god, sexuality is independent of of being "SMARTER," which era are we in guys wake up please......
Because they`re not.
If this is serious, I think there is a statistical correlation between being homosexual and intelligence. Please don't ask me how big it is - probably isn't very big.
Anyway, I've seen an interesting theory of intelligence and it's about how intelligent people are more likely to be things that aren't the norm - being gay, vegan, nocturnal, left-handed and so on. I don't know if it's biology, genes, environment or mixtures of those things but well.. I thought it was interesting a theory.
OP`s question is pure narcissism and it`s not to be taken seriously.
Gay men are more likely to be liberal, which means they have an open mind to all kinds of ideas and experiences and therefore learn more about the world around them.
OP, go to your local mall and check out the retail fairy population.
R44, maybe it's NYC, but majority of gays (in or out) I've known are fundamentally right wing. Of course, not all, but I think the transactional nature of pickup sex has something to do with it. Other elements might be self-reflective sexuality or hermetic aetheticism.
By no means universal. Know many selfless of our ilk.
I'm with 45--I know a lot more Jacks working retail than I have Wills working in the business world. I also believe there are a great many more gay guys than straight guys saving for retirement and not for the latest fashions and cool gay car.
There is no hetero- or homosexual, no lesbian or straight. We are all part of the infinite reality. Everyone of us is an infinity of all sexualities. Everyone human is at once a lesbian, a gay, a straight of all three genders. No one is smarter due to sexual preference. Each and every one of us is a native genius. We must transcends our imaginary differences and become one with Divine Provenience.
Thanks for stopping by ,Gwyneth. Namaste.
We definitely fall short of the mark at present but I truly believe that with time, increased societal acceptance AND our own self-reflection self-improvement and self-discipline gay men COULD become the most highly evolved emotional, spiritual, intellectual humans on the planet with our unique capacity for resolve, tenacity, reason, sensitivity, compassion, empathy, strength of will, kindness, beauty, encouragement, nurturing et al.
I think generally our psychological nature is an amalgamation of some of the better expressions of male and female emotional traits and genetic dispositions.
My brother(who is also gay) is a carpenter and he and I remodeled my mom's kitchen this summer and we were amused at our ability to demolish,re-frame,re-route plumbing and electrical, install cabinets, flooring, tiles and appliances in addition to creating an elegant design using color, texture and pattern with the introduction of timeless accessories, window treatments and dishware...I know, MARY!
For me, I know that my interest in all aspects of the home improvement process is an example of what makes me gay and I enjoy having that balance.
That is the law of genetics according to Schwinn.
QUEENS are always the smartest people in the room.
...and they'll be the first ones to tell you so.
"Oh my God. I'm back. I'm home. All the time, it was... We finally really did it ... You Maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! God damn you all to hell!"
We are switching to the new platform for The DataLounge this weekend. All of our mobile users have been using it for over a week and all first time users have been using it for about a month - which adds up to well over one million users. So we're ready to end this phase of the testing and move everybody to the new site. (more)
And yes, we've changed the look and some of how it operates.
Yes, we know you just *hate* it in well in advance.
Yes, we know we suck.
Yes, we are the biggest suckers that ever sucked.
But it was time for a change and with the huge shift to mobile it was long overdue. We've taken this opportunity not only to update the look but also make major changes under the hood (or "bonnet" if you're either British or pretentious or both). And we have to prepare for 2016 - a presidential election year where we can normally expect to see a 60% jump in traffic (yes, we've seen 5 presidential elections so far…Christ we're old).
The site has a bunch - nay, plethora - of new features which will make the site more usable: better search, the ability to ignore posters and threads, see link previews, to pick up a thread where you left off, spam and malware filtering and more.
If you want you can go explore and see for yourself, Click here.
And while running the tests we've noticed two interesting reactions to the new system - people are spending more time on the site and more people that come stay around longer and look at more stuff. Both good things. Yay!
Possibly we've not slain all the dragons and there will be issues that come up during the switchover. There's a help button in the lower right hand corner of the page which you can use to send us bug reports.
Please include as much information about the hardware (PC, Mac, Tablet, Phone etc), operating system (Windows, Mac OS, Android, iOS etc) and browser (Chrome, Safari, Opera, Internet Explorer etc) that you are using as possible to help us replicate and fix the problem.
Please note that complaints about colors, fonts, icons and the like are not "bugs" - they are design choices that we've made and we expect one or two cases of world-class bitching. But they won't actually cause headaches, scurvy, heart attacks, Restless Leg Syndrome, Morgellon's Disease or the vapors (but have your smelling salts at hand just in case).
Talking to DataLounge servers. Please wait a moment...
