I saw Garfield a few time in NYC when he was on Broadway in "Death of A Salesman." He is far less attractive without make up and fancy clothes. In fact, a friend pointed him out the first time; I would not have looked twice otherwise.

As I see it, the problem, generally, is that the film industry "invests" a lot in an actor and they get so far out on a limb, they can't come out. It would impact more than just their own lives which would be ruined, professionally. Let's say Ryan Gosling came out as gay. (I wish!) think about all the actresses who had "long-term" relationships with him. They'd look really bad, and they'd expose the ugly underbelly of the bearding practice. Maybe Gosling is a bad example, but I'm sure we have loads of actors we can think of who beard, and even if they wanted to come out, they couldn't because it would affect someone else who is considered important. I saw the film last week finally. He can act; I think he's a good choice for Spidey. I never watched the Tobey versions of it. Rhys Ifans chews the scenery to perfection too as a mad scientist. Now that I've seen him act, I think he's pretty convincing as a straight boy. His Spidey emotes, dude, and clings to his loved ones (Sally Field and Martin Sheen). So, either way, it doesn't matter. He's doing his job. He almost manages to make the tired old comic book cliches seem fresh. He looks much better in motion!

I don't think E & A's relationship, whatever it may be, was forced upon them by external sources. However, they both seem really deluded. No way something's not off.
