• When I saw Ghost World, I remember telling my friend Birch would become a big star - she had an endearing sharpness to her. I couldn't even recall Johanssen from that movie because she was such a bore.

• She had potential and she managed to maintain her British accent in "The Hole". Desmond Harrington didn't even bother to attempt one. I do wonder why Harrington and Keira Knightley became the breakout stars from that film, when their performances were pretty underwhelming.

• Yeah, she did a flawless accent in The Hole. I loved Ghost World, but thought maybe that's all she could do. So that movie was a nice surprise.

Can't speak for Harrington, but Knightley's looks fit the mold for what the movie business looks for in young film actors. Talent is secondary. Birch is far more talented than Knighley or Johannsen, but she's not conventionally pretty, rather like Lauren Ambrose, who is extremely talented but doesn't look like a model.

• She was supposed to be in Election with Reese Witherspoon, but left shortly before filming for "creative differences." I wonder if her nutjob father was behind that one too. Sad, because she's a talented girl. You'd think she'd have wised up and gotten away from her parents by now.

• Good news for this former almost A list actress who is now a C- and is fading fast. She has finally realized that she needs to break free from her family situation and has moved out on her own for good. In the past she has tried but she would be pulled back home or a family member would move in with her. No one will hire her. She finally realized that she needed to make a change. She is a shell of the person she used to be and she had substance abuse issues to try and deal with what her life had become and the pain of having a family member get her pregnant. She has started showing up in public at events and calling in favors and is trying to make a comeback.

• It's strange that she was ever a rising starlet, because she never had the right look. She could play young teens, since she was so baby faced, but her career was always going to tank when transitioning to adult roles.

• She was cute when she played Jack Ryan's daughter, but that's been a few decades now.

• It's weird to me that she ever had a career at all as a child star with her parents being former porn stars. I would think studios would worry about the publicity of that and shy away from even casting her, let alone letting her get the lead role in kiddie flicks. I'm the same age as her so I remember watching her early movies (she was great, at least in my 10-year old memory, in this sappy Christmas movie about kids of divorced parents where Ethan Embry played her older brother). When she went on to be great in American Beauty and Ghost World I really rooted for her to do well in her adult career, but I never realized the personal life she had to deal with. So sad.

• Watching Ghost World now and remember seeing it when it first came out and would never have predicted that Scarlett J would be a big store. At the time, I thought she could hardly act .....and well, she still can't act.
