Retired tennis pro slams gay marriage, subtly shades Gaga
Tennis legend Margaret Court, winner of seven straight Australian Opens and a record 24 Grand Slam titles, is urging Australians to fight against the push for gay marriage in her country. The former pro, founder and now senior pastor in Perth’s Victory Life Church, had a littany of thoughts on the subject for The West Australian:
“Politically correct education has masterfully escorted homosexuality out from behind closed doors, into the community openly and now is aggressively demanding marriage rights that are not theirs to take. Society is best served by strong family units that comprised a mother, father and children and that there is no reason to put forward alternative, unhealthy, unnatural unions as a substitute.
No amount of legislation or political point-scoring can ever take out of the human heart the knowledge that in the beginning God created them male and female and provided each with a unique sexual function to bring forth new life.
To dismantle this sole definition of marriage and try to legitimise what God calls abominable sexual practices that include sodomy, reveals our ignorance as to the ills that come when society is forced to accept law that violates their very own God-given nature of what is right and what is wrong.”
Court has had a history of anti-gay comments, accusing lesbians of ruining women’s tennis and calling Martina Navratilova a bad example to young players.
In 2002 she said Damir Dokic’s concern about daughter Jelena being exposed to lesbians on the circuit was “understandable” and campaigning against Western Australian laws that gave gay couples equal legal rights as de facto couples.
The three times Wimbledon champion who holds 62 Grand Slam titles turned to Christianity in 1972, and has long claimed that homosexuality is a choice, reiterating her stance this week.
“The fact that the homosexual cry is, ‘We were born this way’ as the cause behind their own personal choice is cause for concern,” she said. “Every action begins with a thought. There is a choice to be made.”
This is not a new theme for Court, who in 1990 accused Martina Navratilova and other lesbian tennis players of ruining the sport. In 1994 she proclaimed homosexuality and abortion to be abominations of the Lord. She has also said gay people can change their sexual orientation, and she has fought against laws to protect gay and lesbian people.

File this bat-shit crazy bitch under Anita Bryant, Dan White & the Westboro church
She's probably a repressed lesbian herself.
She looks like she has manhands.
Navratilova countered that Court was always a right wing nut. During the '70s tennis boycott of South Africa, Court regularly played there and explained that at least they understood their racial problems.
r4, why was there a boycott?
That crazy article is crazier than we gays could ever try to be!
R5, how old are you that you've never heard of apartheid?
I wanna see Martina and Billie Jean King go medieval on this bitch's ass.
Australia Post released a Margaret Court postage stamp a few years ago - I almost bought some so that I could say that Margaret Court has been licked by a lesbian!
R9, you'd have them rolling in the aisles. Can I put you down for a full stamp book?
I think the crazy speaks for itself, no worries here.
She's clearly batshit, out of touch and representative of a commonly held opinion about gay marriage, which will die out soon with its owners.
Ignore. Bitch will be dead soon.
Maybe it will be enough for Sam Stosur to take a stand and come out.

This is such a fallacy of hetero thinking and what underlies it is pure hetero superiority. With or without gay marriage this is NOT what society looks like. Even in Malta this year - one of the last holdouts for divorce law in a very Catholic country - they had to legalise divorce because the social unions were so complicated and left so many children without legal rights. Husbands and wives would separate and divorce naturally without the law in place, start new relationships and families, etc. They have to introduce divorce law to make sense of their society.
These heteros live in a dream world where they rule and imagine their lives to be perfect, overlooking all of their own failures. Ridiculous.

Too right. This woman lives in a nice world where heterosexual domestic jealousy murder never occurs, husbands never cheat with hookers, mothers never have x numbers of children to x numbers of different men and where it takes Ricki Lake to sort it all out on national TV, heterosexual parents never ignore their children as they instead obssess over their share portfolios/property dealings and fathers never rape their daughters or intimidate and abuse their wives/kids, then turn up to church every Sunday as if butter wouldn't melt.
Yes, she fails to see all this that goes on daily in the newspapers in the heterosexual utopia of humanity. It's not all great.
She must be a deeply, deeply repressed lesbian.
...like Rick Perry is a closted homo, thus his gay-bashing ad in Iowa.
Court is a horrible woman, and her hateful remarks are only tarnishing her own legacy.
Margaret Smith Court has always fought the idea she could be gay. She avoided women she suspected were gay, in the locker room, for years. Her HANDS are the size of a man's. She was also the first female tennis player to work out with weights.
A once devout Catholic she changed to a strange religious sect when she began to see visions of God. She's nuts.
Margaret CVnt. R21 is correct, Court turned away from Catholicism because it wasn't conservative enough for her. She only latched onto religion in the first place when she started feeling miserable and worthless after she retired from pro tennis. She has some serious issues.
She's nuts. Time to put her down.
This makes me more sad than angry. You would think someone who worked so closely with many lesbians in the 60s and 70s would have different views.
"Society is best served by strong family units that comprised a mother, father and children"
Doesn't she realize that this family unit doesn't even exist as the norm anymore, and hasn't for decades? The traditional family hasn't really existed since the beginning of the sexual revolution and women's movement in the 1960's, long before gay marriage even became an issue.
Whether you prohibit gay marriage or not, you're not going to have a heterosexual society anymore in which women all believe they have to have children, be married to a man etc. Many women today, and many straight men too, don't believe in marriage, or having children etc.
So all those sterile and post-menopausal heterosexuals marrying server the straight family how, Ms. Court?
She's always been bonkers, esp. since she "found Jesus".
Great athlete, but not too bright, and nuttier than a fruitcake.
Oh as soon as I saw her name I wasn't surprised. I thought it was going to be someone unexpected.
On her wikipedia page, there is a quote where she says that the older lesbians turned the younger women into lesbians. Like vampires.
Well, she always did look like Lou Ferrigno in a tennis skirt, R2.
I am ashamed to be born in the same country as this bitch
Was she a virgin when she got married? I assume she has followed all of the Church's precepts?
[quote]On her wikipedia page, there is a quote where she says that the older lesbians turned the younger women into lesbians. Like vampires.
This reminds me of a SheTV sketch, sone in the style of 50s health class films, where a girl learns all about lesbianism with the help of friendly women gym teachers.
[quote]She's nuts. Time to put her down.
[quote]by: They shoot horses, don't they?!
God I hope not!
"sone in the style" = "done in the style"
[quote]Was she a virgin when she got married?
She was "unknown by man" so by Bible standards yes she was a virgin.
However any girl who played tennis in the 1960 & 70's can attest that her mighty groping manhands were no strangers to the nether regions of many a tennis skirt.
She became anti-gay because she feared lesbians would start playing the game in mens shorts , which are far more restrictive of panty flashes than the traditional tennis skirt,.
"Margaret "Manhands" Court is straight..."
Sorry I laughed so hard pussy juice came flying out of my nose!
She reminds me of the gym teacher from Glee.
There was no tennis boycott of South Africa until the late 80s. That racist cunt Chris Evert played in South Africa up until the early to mid 80s.
She's behaving like the closet case politicians.
Court was not particulary well liked on the Virignia Slims tour - when she finally joined. She would win week after week (in 1973) and stayed with local families rather than a hotel. Rumours about her frugality are legendary.
She WAS an amazingly consistent player with a great game but rather phony in that she wanted to be considered a traditional female who only played the 'nice' game of tennis because it let her travel the world. Billie Jean called her out as a feminist because Court was making the living and her husband was following along, taking care of the kid. Neither of the Courts could embrace this. Read the brilliant You've Come A Long Way Baby by Grace Lichtenstein. All of this is in that.
I would really set this bitch straight on a few things if I met her.
I would point out to her the reality of heterosexual marriage today and how it bears no resemblance to traditional marriage any longer.
I greatly admire this woman for her unrivaled courage to speak the truth. Ms.Court is a great role model for every Christian. In an age where the Gospel is being watered down to fit with modern messages Court stands alone adhering to the instructions of the faith. We need more like her. Gay is a choice to give in to thoughts in the mind that soon become urges which then give way to actions. Gays work to recruit young people. How else can they grow? Its learned behavior. The average gay is a liar they weren't born the way. When called to account they spew one lie after another along with loud angry outbursts, insults, obscenities, profanities & blasphemies. This reveals their true nature of violence, cruelty & depravity, anger & hedonism just like their father.
Somebody call Jackie a wahmbulance!
[quote]This reveals their true nature of violence, cruelty & depravity, anger & hedonism just like their father.
Could it be . . . Satan?
Why is it that people who proclaim gay people to have "chosen" their lifestyle always freeze up when you ask them when they chose their own. "Uh ummmm, well..."
Margaret Court is going to be so surprised when she passes on and finds herself in that hot, steamy place she thought she avoided by doing "God's work."
Poor Margaret... 24 Grand Slam titles, definitely one of the best one or three champions in history but her decades long extinct political and social points of view have sidelined her from her sport's history to a great extent.
She was loads of fun to watch play in her heyday. Martina had nothing on her in power and athleticism. Her matches with Billie Jean were epic. But Margaret has been putting her foot in her mouth and the mouth of the tour that she benefitted from for so long that she gets little attention, which is as it should be.
Oh, my sides, R43! Where can I get tickets for your act?
[quote]Why is it that people who proclaim gay people to have "chosen" their lifestyle
Sexual orientation is not a "lifestyle" it's about sexual attraction. We certainly don't need to be using their jargon when refuting their bigotry.
The PC Police like R50 always concentrate on "jargon" and not on the message. I "certainly" don't need to be submitting opinions for your approval. But perhaps if the quotes were around "chosen their lifestyle," as they should have been, you wouldn't be such a pretentious bore.
Get thee a cocktail R51.
r51, you owe r50 an apology. Yes, apologize right here on datalounge in front of everyone. I understand that you're objecting to the chosen part (as you should) but the "lifestyle" word is also bad.
well, if we are going to call chris evert a cunt for playing twice in her life in south africa, then we have to also include billie jean king and arthur ashe-who also did so.
What does lady gaga have to do with this? She's in the title but not even mentioned in the thread.
