• Are you assuming that all of the people on the other side of the transaction are male? There ARE powerful female executives, casting directors, etc. as well.

• The casting couch limits actors to trashy television or film roles. If you keep using sex for a job, you are insecure and probably not that talented. You are forever known as a skank. Maybe people excuse it in the beginning, but if it is your only meal ticket then you get known as a sex toy. I think.

• They don't have to demand it. Actors will say, "who do I have to do to get this part" I don't know how common it is, but for a starring role, I would do just about anything.

• R11, it happens in real life, yes, in that many older women are confident about being with younger men and it has become more socially acceptable. I'm simply pointing out that women tend to be more in control of themselves than men and less likely to risk their careers over sex or by hitting on an employee.

• The thing I've always been curious about with the casting couch is, what guarantee do the actors have? If they sleep with a producer or a casting director or whatever, is it an unspoken rule that they're required to give the actor the role? Or is it a widespread problem with TPTB sleeping with an actor or an actress with that understanding in mind, and then just giving the part to someone else?

• It's his prerogative if he wants to sleep around to get a role, not yours...jealous bitches.

• There is a long thread on the casting couch. It must be horrible for young actors because Hollywood is such an exploitative industry. But it's clearly lucrative if you get work.
