Remember Sian Barbara Allen?

I found her. She used to be tv movie actress. She went with Richard Thomas. Enjoy

I used to know her. Her name was Barbara Susan Pokrass before she changed it for film. It's interesting that she mentions only her sister, Meg, because she also has a sister, Judy (who perhaps has passed away, although she was younger than Sian).

She had a child years ago, who had some kind of developmental disability.

by Anonymousreply 1September 22, 2011 8:28 PM

I thought she was actually married to Richard Thomas for a while. I always thought she seemed odd, but she looks more regular in her pic there. Remember "You'll Like My Mother"?

by Anonymousreply 2September 22, 2011 8:33 PM

First French kiss I ever saw was her and Thomas on "The Waltons." I remember thinking, "Eww... People use their tongues?" (I was six)

She was quite the little hippie girl, the very definition of "ethereal."

by Anonymousreply 3September 22, 2011 9:07 PM

No, she and Richard Thomas were never married. They were a "thing" briefly, but never married.

She used to have this great old Hollywood duplex apartment, very eccentric, like an old gypsy woman's parlor. Hippie girl and ethereal are definitely apt descriptions.

"J.D. Sallinger."

by Anonymousreply 6September 22, 2011 9:47 PM

Dawn Lyn looks a LOT better than I thought she would. Her looks as a child could be... disturbing.

by Anonymousreply 7September 22, 2011 9:57 PM

My mom has some old movie mags from the 70's - I remember seeing all these stories about the *supposed* drama of their romance. It was all such a big deal - kind of like the hoopla you see with the Bennifers, Brangelinas, etc.

by Anonymousreply 8September 22, 2011 9:59 PM

Great thread. Who else can we dig up

by Anonymousreply 9September 22, 2011 10:08 PM

There were a lot of Sianish actresses that appeared on Marcus Welby. I bought MW dvd setband have yet to watch em yet.

Datalounge fave Pamelyn Ferdin.

What is it about actresses named Susan who decide to adopt some other dramatic name that begins with S?

by Anonymousreply 13September 22, 2011 10:18 PM

This thread is great. I grew up watching these ladies on the telly and was kind of curious about their whereabouts.

Dodie looks great. I wonder if she's close to her brother still, or has the drug use become a problem.

by Anonymousreply 14September 22, 2011 10:20 PM

Lots of forgotten shows in that Pamelyn Ferdin thread: The Delphi Bureau, High Chapparell, Custer.

Wasn't Pamelyn Ferdin the original voice of Lucy Van Pelt in the Charlie Brown specials? Also, she was the daughter in that creepy ABC movie of the week with Gene Tierney and Ray Milland called Daughter of the Mind!

by Anonymousreply 18September 23, 2011 12:13 AM

A few years back someone on DL asked if anyone remembered Sian Barbara Allen in a '70s thread (I think). I'm paraphrasing, but the poster added this description of his memory of her: "Potted ferns, bentwood rockers, and macrame wall hangings figure heavily." Wish I could remember the exact words, because they made actually made me laugh out loud.

by Anonymousreply 31September 24, 2011 1:58 AM

Season was sweet looking. Was she married Kurt Russell?

by Anonymousreply 32September 24, 2011 3:14 AM

I remember sweet-faced Season Hubley from an episode of "The Partridge Family," where she played a princess; "Family," where she played Selena; and as Priscilla, opposite Kurt Russell as Elvis. Then the did a complete turnaround and start as the prostitute in "Hardcore," with George C. Scott. After that she seemed to play hardened characters. Interesting career. Isn't her brother Whip Hubley?

by Anonymousreply 33September 24, 2011 6:40 AM

Yes, her brother is Whip Hubley.

How about Darleen Carr? She worked a lot. Another one, Laurie Prange. Used to see her all the time too.

Laurie Prange! Hadn't thought of that name in years. I was traumatized by the episode of "The Incredible Hulk" she did where she played a crippled girl whose evil mother was trying to kill her.

She looked a lot like Chloe Webb.

by Anonymousreply 35September 24, 2011 10:51 AM

Laurie Prange always played characters that were damaged, like she was a victim of incest or other unspeakable crimes.

Jamie Smith Jackson? Blonde girl in lots of ABC movies of the week. I think she married hottie Michael Ontkean.

by Anonymousreply 37September 24, 2011 1:44 PM

Whatever happened to Judy Strangis? She played a shy teen on "Room 222" and wasn't she also on some Saturday morning kids show too?

by Anonymousreply 38September 24, 2011 1:54 PM

I remember Laurie Prange from and episode of Night Gallery call "Brenda." She befriends some sort of sea monster on the beach, and it ends with her talking to the sea monster, which is buried under a pile of rocks. I haven't seen it since I was a kid, and Pamelyn Ferdin plays a small role in it as her stuck-up friend. Prange was a good actress.

I read that Judy Strangis retired from acting on screen due to a stalker's advances. That's when she switch to voiceover work.

by Anonymousreply 39September 24, 2011 3:07 PM

Yes, I remember myself. I played Jenny Pendleton on "The Waltons" and they were among the happiest years of my life. I want to thank my fans who are kind enough to send me a birthday card every year! My younger sister has not only not died but is sitting across from me reading a book! My daughter is healthy and fine and is living down South. To the poster who doesn't like J.D. Salinger give me a break. Iam very active politically and am a member of the Bold Progressives. My love to Earl Hamner who wrote "The Love Story" and thanks to everyone who loves"The Waltons".Sian Barbara Allen

by Anonymousreply 45February 5, 2013 2:45 AM

R4, those hippie, gypsy apartments were real dust traps.

by Anonymousreply 46February 5, 2013 2:52 AM

Also to add, satanists have notoriously dusty abodes as well. Anton LaVey, the weirdo head of the Church of Satan reportedly never dusted his little demon-lair and if you sat down on his furniture you would have white marks all over the back of your pants.

I guess purple drapery and black carpet is hard to maintain.

by Anonymousreply 47February 5, 2013 2:55 AM

Judy Strangis' career was ended by a stalker. She was forced to ratchet down her career to invisibility. I think she does some voice work

Her brother, Sam, I think, is the producer for CSI (original one).

I remember when Judy Strangis was Mean Mary Jean, who was the spokeswoman for Chrysler

by Anonymousreply 48February 5, 2013 3:02 AM

Meg Foster? The from the original "Cagney and Lacey"? A friend of mine was in a mommy's club in Trenton and who would you think turned up? Jill Whealan!!! My friend was like... "she looked familiar and was really friendly...later I realized who she was." Years and years and years ago, maybe 15, I was at an upscale hotel and Jane Prather checked in. I was totally freaking. I told her I'd been a fan since "Smile". She was very nice, and looked great! I think she's teaching acting now...

Hi Sian, I was googling you to see if you were still alive. I used to be your assistant in the 90's!

by Anonymousreply 51April 30, 2014 6:56 PM

Sian Barbara Allen dated a stage director I knew back in the late '70s - she even came to my surprise 19th birthday party ... the only memorable thing about that day. I was fairly new to Hollywood then, but wasn't surprised that I had a "well-known" actress celebrating with me. The party was held at my ex's - when he rented Deanna Durbin's old house.

by Anonymousreply 52May 1, 2014 6:51 PM

My mother went to school with Sian Barbara Allen - she's has been nagging me to look her up on Youtube... I should point her towards this thread...

Hi: Was watching an episode of Columbo which along with 68 others, I had taped about 10 or 15 years ago and with TV so incredibly lousy, decided to go thru them...I believe the one you are on is 'Lovely but Lethal' and thought I'd check the internet which wasn't available then (I am 75 now) & low & behold, I found you. You were one beautiful gal then and probably still are as well as a magnificent actress. I recall you on other series, some of which have been listed on this site & remember you were equally wonderful in all of them as well. I hope you are doing well & I wish you the best. Other than my MD nephew in SD, I have no other viable family. Hopefully by now you've acquired a computer which is excellent for obtaining more information than can be imagined & which is how all of your fans have located you. I no longer use Facebook altho my pics are located thereon. Take care of yourself. Ed (Chevyek123@aol.com)

This seems like as good a place as any to pose this question. Reading my mother's movie magazines back in the late 60s-early 70s, I distinctly recall a tiny scandal about June Lockhart, the mom on "Lost in Space," dating a young, Jesus-haired hippie. She was in her 40s or 50s and had probably teenage kids at that point. I can't find a trace of this online. Am I the only one who remembers it?

by Anonymousreply 59August 4, 2019 3:53 PM

R59 here, hold the phone! Just discovered a very recent DL threat on Miss June Lockhart and learned that the hippie was none other than professional JC Ted Neely! Wow.

by Anonymousreply 60August 4, 2019 3:58 PM

^^^^^ Whoops, DL thread, THREAD, not "threat." Goodness me.

by Anonymousreply 61August 4, 2019 3:58 PM

Wait.....someone said it wasn't Ted Neeley.... frankly, it sounds off to me. I recall the hippie's name being Robert for some reason. Ok, I'll take it to the "Miss June Lockhart" thread....

by Anonymousreply 62August 4, 2019 4:03 PM

Pamela Franklin was an outstanding English child actress who appeared in many prestigious films of the 1960s, culminating in 'The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie' as Sandy ('assassin!'). In the early 1970s she appeared in many episodic TV shows in Hollywood, along with several horror films. Then she abruptly disappeared from show biz.

For decades I wondered what happened to her, and it was difficult to find out anything pre- internet. Even in the early days of the net there were no clues. Then I rented the DVD for 'Miss Brodie', which had a commentary with Pamela and the 100 year-old director, Ronald Neame. During the commentary I learned that she abruptly quit showbiz after being treated dismissively by a young director, who called her 'the girl'. She then married a fellow actor who owned a used book store in LA, and raised two sons.

She appeared in one of the saddest movies I ever saw, 'The Lion', starring depressives William Holden and Capucine as her divorced parents. Her character lived in Kenya with her mother and stepfather, and found solace in her loneliness by bonding with semi-domesticated lions.

by Anonymousreply 63August 4, 2019 4:22 PM

For whoever asked (years ago) whether Judy Strangis did a Saturday morning kids' show: yes she did. She was Dyna-Girl to DL fave Deidre Hall's Electra-Woman in Electra-Woman and Dyna-Girl.

Another one of those young women who were visible mainly in the '60s and '70s.

Pamela McMyler

I remember her for 2 things...both from 1970.

1. She had a small part in the episode of "The Name of the Game" called "Jenny Wilde is Dying." This episode was one with Tony Franciosa. During this episode, Franciosa was trying to help a failed actress (played by Pamela Franklin) who was threatening suicide while calling in to a radio show. The ending (spoiler) had the girl admitting that she had no intention of killing herself and was using the call in program to generate publicity for her career. After finding this, Franciosa leaves the radio station, depressed because he had been conned and another young woman (Pamela McMyler) walks up to him in the parking lot and tells him that he had saved her life that night because she had really been planning suicide.

2. She played John Wayne's niece in the movie "Chisum".

by Anonymousreply 67August 5, 2019 5:25 AM

I just google-imaged Pamela, R67. Vaguely remember her. They all had that slight Manson girl look.

by Anonymousreply 68August 15, 2019 2:15 AM

"My mom has some old movie mags from the 70's."

Weren't those old movie magazines hilarious? I saw some old issues of "Rona Barrett's Hollywood" in an antique store and flipped through them. They're funny as hell.

by Anonymousreply 69August 15, 2019 2:23 AM

I LOVED Rona Barrett's gossip. Occasionally she'd do a deep-dive piece on some star or other. I remember one on Streisand that explored why she was such an insecure bitch.

by Anonymousreply 70June 7, 2020 10:57 PM

R65 She looks a bit like DL goddess Kay(e) Ballard in that picture!

by Anonymousreply 71June 7, 2020 11:37 PM

What about Kay Lenz? She got a lot of work in the seventies. Her toothy smile was her most memorable feature. She starred in the tv movie version of the popular YA novel "Lisa, Bright and Dark." She played the hippy title character opposite William Holden in the Clint Eastwood directed movie "Breezy." And she was married to David Cassidy! Her career hit the skids after the 70s but she managed to pop up now an then as a guest star on a tv series. I remember her playing a prostitute on "Hill Street Blues."

by Anonymousreply 72June 7, 2020 11:46 PM

R65's pic is definitely not Sian Barbara Allen.

I saw her recently in a '70s TV movie in which she plays a college student who goes to work for... Bette Davis, maybe? in a crumbling gothic mansion. She flirts with her employer's son and there are murders and all that good '70s TV type stuff. Anybody remember the title?

by Anonymousreply 73June 8, 2020 12:29 AM

"Weren't those old movie magazines hilarious? I saw some old issues of "Rona Barrett's Hollywood" in an antique store and flipped through them. They're funny as hell."

Weren't they, though? It's hard to believe but Rona Barrett considered herself a serious "journalist" who prided herself on giving accurate information to the public about their favorite celebrities. Her "Journalism" was catty and nasty and not expecially accurate. A lot of celebrities hated her; Frank Sinatra (she was actually good friends with his family for a time) called her "an ugly broad", Ryan O'Neal sent her a tarantula, and Mia Farrow dumped a bottle of champagne on her head.

I too was in an antique store and saw some old Rona Barrett's Hollywood magazines. I flipped through it; it contained a full page photo of Cher french kissing Gregg Allman. Some "journalism!"

by Anonymousreply 74June 8, 2020 12:50 AM

I'm sure I read it on D L that Rona Barrett built a senior citizens community in California and became very involved in elder issues.

by Anonymousreply 75June 8, 2020 3:03 AM

Yes Rona is on Twitter promoting her work in that area. Still looks pretty good for an old broad.

by Anonymousreply 76June 8, 2020 3:20 AM

Yeah, old Rona is doing work for senior citizens, maybe to atone for all those years she spent as a "gossip queen."
