Another superb single shot has Brandon run through the streets of Manhattan at night, angrily pounding block after block, leaping intersections, and you feel the film crew must have committed some major traffic violations to follow him. The movie has a sleek sheen to it, and the many and varied sex scenes are more coolly observational than erotic, with a classical soundtrack including Bach, which somehow sanitizes the sleaziness. There is also some humour: a creaky first date in an upscale restaurant, with a waiter who keeps interrupting with ornately-described specials, and a scene where Brandon merely eyes a woman on the subway, and watches her melt in approximately two stops until she%E2%80%99s clutching the subway pole like a dancer. This is a very adult film, in both senses. Yet in the end your focus is only on Fassbender%E2%80%99s face, particularly at one point when he is in bed with two women, supposedly having a fine time.
