"Daria" May Be Returning

Daria might be back. MTV%E2%80%99s Toffler, an executive producer on the series, notes that the animated spinoff from Beavis and Butt-head that airs in reruns on MTV2 and Logo and has done well on both. %E2%80%9CWe%E2%80%99ve talked to the creators so there is not as long a shot as you%E2%80%99d think that Daria might be back on one of our channels.

• Awesome. That show was great...so much better than Beavis and Butthead. The longest I''ve watched Logo is 1 hr and that was only because they were showing back to back episodes of Daria.

• My favorite character was Helen, Daria''s and Quinn''s type-A mother with the deep (and affected) voice and the hardcharging business style. She and their father were so distracted with their own problems at work and with coming to terms with their unhappy childhoods they were barely aware of their daughters. It seemed so realistic.

• What the hell was wrong with the music? It was actually very fitting for the show. This time around they should take their cue from Sirius XMU.

• god you''re dumb R14, it was a reference to the generic covers they had to do of several tracks of music for the DVD set that lacked the nuance of the originals.\ \ when daria was broadcast, they had access to a huge catalog of music, but none of it was cleared for ancillary rights like video distribution, so they had to clear each song individually, and many didnt clear, hence the generic or instrumental versions

• As long as you didn't take the show particularly seriously(Daria would've been unlikable and unsympathetic in real life) it was a very good show.

• The actress who did the voices of all the major female characters except Daria--Quinn, the mom, Jane Lane--is a genius.

• Daria was a satirical representation of 1990s high school culture so I can't see the show being relevant today without losing some of its original appeal. I'd still watch the new episodes though.

• Jersey Shore, 16 and pregnant and the rest of the shit that MTV airs now would be something that Jane and Daria would watch and have a blast mocking. Very "Sick, Sad World" The show holds up soooo well, I started watching again recently and that was a nice surprise. It will never be the same without the awesome music, though. I found Quinn and the Fashion Club so irritating back in the day, but now I think they are hilarious!. The love/hate relationship between Quinn and Sandy is one of the best parts of the show, tons of great one-liners. Stacey always on the verge of a nervous breakdown and Tiffany....talking....like....thiiiiis. I still love Trent

• I miss the 90s. Remember Dr Katz? That was a fun show. I miss low key comedy and low key movies. You couldn't make a movie like A Fish Called Wanda or Quiz Show today.

• Totally agree, R37. Comedy plays to the dumbest people these days, and if it doesn't, they don't get it.

• "A Fish Called Wanda" was from 1988.

• The Fashion Club girls were stupid, that was the point. Not as dumb as cheerleader Brittany and her jock boyfriend but still stupid. Quinn was the only one who tried to do something about her grades right at the end of the series, when they were getting ready to go to college. The writers did a great job with her character, she actually grew and by the end was mature and not so selfish. She was even nice to Daria.

• Classic show that went places few live action sitcoms about young people wouldn't even attempt to go. A particularly poignant episode focused on Daria's friendship with Jodie Landon, the school's highly intelligent popular black student. Jodie tells Daria about the reasons she studies so hard but absolutely resented being the school's "Queen of the Negroes". That statement summed up a lot about being different as a "model minority" in an area not so diverse.

• This makes me very happy. I thought the brief comeback of "Beavis and Butthead" was pretty good so I'm hopeful. I also liked how the characters in the series developed over the course of the series. Like Quinn becoming more grounded,Daria showcasing her vulnerability, etc.

• "Beavis and Butthead" will not be returning to MTV. "Daria" has no chance of returning to MTV, and any revival is unlikely.

• There is a ton of Daria fan fiction and a big fan community.

• Believe it or not, I was introduced to Daria when people kept telling me I looked exactly like her (I'm a chick). When that show was on point, it was quite good. I totally agree with the hipster thing, though, much to my chagrin. Also to my chagrin, I was Daria for Halloween in 1998, due to the minimal effort factor. Now, in 2012, we have Katy Perry & Co. doing Daria for Halloween. And now I know I'm truly in pretentious hipster company of the most tragic variety.
