• I just saw the movie (borrowed from library) and it wasn't too bad. More like a dream or impression that a full-out biography. Lots of Hart Crane's poems recited, lots of walking around shots. Hart was tormented but I'm not sure by what. As to the sex scenes, the first is the blowjob scene, given in a car by Hart (Franco) to a truck driver he is in love with, played by the boom operator (Dylan Goodwin.) You never get a good view of his face, though in profile he looks pretty handsome. Crane goes down on him in the front seat of the pickup truck, and it's pretty clear. Not as dark as the screen caps. It's probably a dildo, but Franco does go up and down on it pretty convincingly. The sex scene with Michael Shannon, playing a sailor named Emile (though I don't recall hearing it mentioned in the movie) is the second romantic scene -- the first has a lot of kissing, some of it open-mouthed. He sighs at one happy moment "There is nothing in the world like this" and I knew exactly what he meant. The reunion love scene (after Emile is back on leave) has Emile topping Hart, but he doesn't seem to use any lubrication and curiously there are no ass shots of either fellow -- it's filmed from the waist up, so we see Emile's upper back and head close to Hart's neck and satisfied face. And Dave Franco plays Hart as a young man. I didn't realize it was him until the credits at the end, so I went back and watched his few scenes again. He's not his usual goofy self in this role. I'm glad I saw it -- I've been wanting to for over a year. Worth a free rental for your laptop, and you do get to hear some well-regarded poetry.
