I hate his smarmy, know-it-all manner when a contestant gets an answer wrong. As if he'd know the answer if it weren't written on a cue card.
Alex Trebek is such a pompous jerk
by Anonymous | reply 49 | November 9, 2020 2:46 PM |
I thought he was a real ass when I was on the show. Not a fan.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | June 4, 2011 12:45 AM |
Yeah! Let's all grab pitchforks and torches and GO GET HIM!
by Anonymous | reply 2 | June 4, 2011 12:55 AM |
I was on the show as well and I don't think he seemed pompous at all. He was very nice to me.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | June 4, 2011 6:36 PM |
I thought it was funny how he was even pompous when it came to correcting Watson when he got questions wrong.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | June 4, 2011 6:45 PM |
R1 and R3 - more details plz. How was he a jerk? How was he nice?
How much money did you win? Did either of you win a game? What was it like - were you nervous? Did you spend any time with the other contestants?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | June 4, 2011 7:12 PM |
His language pronunciation is outstanding, for that reason alone I am a fan.%0D %0D PS: If you are going to speak on air for a living, take a standard speech class, will ya? (talking to you MSNBC)
by Anonymous | reply 7 | June 4, 2011 7:22 PM |
OP, just say Kebert Xela!
by Anonymous | reply 8 | June 4, 2011 7:23 PM |
OP = Sean Connery
by Anonymous | reply 9 | June 4, 2011 7:28 PM |
He's had a couple of drunk driving incidents.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | June 4, 2011 8:30 PM |
I tried out for Jeopardy but I couldn't even pass the test phase.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | June 4, 2011 8:52 PM |
R6, r3 here. I was on Jeopardy a couple years ago. I came in third and won $1000 - that is what the third place contestant automatically receives. Second place receives $2000. Honestly, we didn't get to talk to Alex that much. Most of the time was spent sequestered with the rest of the contestant pool. They don't like the contestants mixing with people who work on the show, I guess because they don't want any accusations about people behind the scenes "helping" the contestants. We did get to chat with Alex after our episode taped and he seemed pretty nice. During the commercial breaks he would answer questions from the studio audience. Some old lady said she had a crush on him and he was really sweet about it.

He don't reciprocate on oral sex neither!
by Anonymous | reply 13 | June 5, 2011 5:50 PM |
Here's what Anderson Cooper wrote after his first appearance on "Jeopardy":
"I wanted Alex Trebek to like me. Really like me.
Pathetic, I know.
The problem was, he seemed completely uninterested. Not unfriendly, just not interested. Like a politician who didn't need my vote.
He appeared moments before the game began. Calm, cool, coiffed. Exactly how he looks on TV.
We shook hands, posed for a picture, then he was gone. On to the next contestant."
by Anonymous | reply 14 | June 5, 2011 5:51 PM |
He was very nice to me when I was on the show. Maybe because I gave him a blow job in the dressing room before we taped.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | June 5, 2011 5:53 PM |
Apparently every season he takes the qualifying test. He says if he doesn't pass, then he'll stop hosting the show. So I think he's probably pretty smart...
by Anonymous | reply 16 | June 5, 2011 6:00 PM |
He wanted me real bad, but I have standards!
by Anonymous | reply 18 | June 5, 2011 6:04 PM |
I never thought of him as pompous. He's just Canadian.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | June 5, 2011 6:07 PM |
He's a complete douche. He acts like he knows all the answers. He has to look to his producers and judges to know if contestant got answer correct. Id bet anything his IQ is less than 110.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 15, 2014 11:53 PM |
His mustache is back.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 16, 2014 12:02 AM |
Not the mustache!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 16, 2014 12:27 AM |
He is too old. Retire already. His "interviews" with the contestants seem like they last hours instead of the minute they actually take.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 16, 2014 12:32 AM |
You're all jealous, he's my favorite non-fictional character.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 18, 2014 10:47 AM |
When I was on the show, he was friendly enough but a little remote compared to all the huggy, outgoing Californians on the staff. And no, he really doesn't interact with the contestants much more than what you see on the show. They're super paranoid about making sure there's no possibility of collusion.
Alex goes through the clues and answers before the taping of each segment and actually found a couple of wrong ones during my taping day. I suspect that he'd do pretty well if he played an actual show.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 18, 2014 11:01 AM |
Another smug Canadian...
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 18, 2014 11:11 AM |
Alex Trebek is a homosexual. Alex Trebek has AIDS.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 18, 2014 11:44 AM |
As arrogant as he comes off on Jeopardy, he was far worse earlier in his career while hosting less "serious" games like Concentration or High Rollers. All his attempts at humorous banter with the contestants were awkward and unpleasant. He always seems to shoot for playful ribbing, but it comes off like a straight-up insult.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 18, 2014 6:57 PM |
I was on the show in 2009 and he was very nice to me.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 18, 2014 8:09 PM |
Are the contestants advised of areas to study before taping?
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 18, 2014 8:37 PM |
My sister was on the show and she said he was very smart (she got to chat with him before the show). When I heard that, I thought maybe he really is smart enough to condescend to everyone. Who knows.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 18, 2014 8:40 PM |
He's a stroppy, imperious CUNT!
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 18, 2014 8:40 PM |
R30, no. You're pretty much on your own figuring out a study plan.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 18, 2014 9:05 PM |
R30, By the time you make it on the televised show, it comes down to click times. My sister practiced and practiced clicking a pen (buzzer).
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 18, 2014 9:10 PM |
Alex Trebek has AIDS. And lives with his mother.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 30, 2014 6:29 PM |
Alex being a pompous jerk is a large part of the show's appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | December 30, 2014 6:31 PM |
He is why I don't watch Jeopardy. And I like trivia games.
With whom should they replace him...?
by Anonymous | reply 37 | December 30, 2014 6:34 PM |
Back in the '70's my family and I were at NBC in Burbank and saw Alex Trebek on the game show "High Rollers." I was under age but the page let me in anyway. During a commerical break in the taping my mom asked Alex a few questions and he seemed like a nice guy. Alex's cohost, Ruta Lee, waved and said, "Hello" to me. That was pretty awesome. Alex is a very serious, no nonsense kind of guy, and he's also a scholar having a doctorate in philosophy. In my book Alex is a good guy. He's one of the last of the great generation of broadcasters still hosting. Jeopardy will never be the same with another host.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | April 24, 2015 6:21 AM |
Thank you R38 and the others who said he is a nice guy. For those who don't like him, don't watch him. I realize that takes away something for you to bitch about. Sorry about that. Not really.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | April 24, 2015 7:27 AM |
Check out his cameo in an "X-Files" episode. Very funny.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | April 24, 2015 7:35 AM |
R20, I don't know how anyone can get that vibe from him. He just seems like a plain, normal man. Not nice, not mean, just...is.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | April 24, 2015 8:11 AM |
Just blah!
by Anonymous | reply 42 | April 26, 2015 6:31 AM |
He's a Republican, isn't he? I'm surprised to hear about the PhD in philosophy. And still ended up an asshole (if he's a Repub)
by Anonymous | reply 43 | April 26, 2015 7:02 AM |
[quote] He's a Republican, isn't he?
Here's what Trebek himself says about his politics:
I consider myself a social liberal and a fiscal conservative. I believe that climate change exists, and is contributed to by human activity. I have seen firsthand the effects of climate change, in trips to Antarctica and Mt. Kilimanjaro, both of which are showing huge changes due to global warming. I’m in favor of equal pay for women, and the Lilly Ledbetter act. I believe in equal rights for the LGBT community; in fact, this winter, I braved the Minnesota winter weather to attend a gay wedding (which was officiated over by my wife).
by Anonymous | reply 44 | April 26, 2015 7:47 AM |
He seems less of a jerk after reading R44.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | April 26, 2015 2:51 PM |
How do you get "good" at Jeopardy? Just study encyclopedias? I'm extremely unintelligent.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | April 26, 2015 3:18 PM |
R45 I was thinking the same thing.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | April 26, 2015 3:53 PM |
I don't think he's an asshole. How else is he supposed to respond to a wrong answer? "So close" - when it wasn't?
It's a quiz show - not a game of chance show so there has to be some different standards.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | April 26, 2015 3:59 PM |
The man is dead, I bet you feel dumb
