Tina Turner Headed For Rehab?
Tina Turner is one strong woman, having emerged stronger and in tact from trials and tribulations that would have broken many down, but still - she's not infallible. So in adding son Ike Jr.'s illness and the recent death of her sister to her tumultuous history, it seems only natural that rumors about the singer and performer would start to emerge.
According to her biographer, Mark Bego:
"Losing Alline and seeing Ike Jr. so sick has hit her like a one-two punch. Tina has been in misery ever since her sister's death. And now Ike Jr. has taken a turn for the worse. Her friends fear she is drinking heavily in private to get over the pain. Those closest to her are beginning to believe that going into rehab may be her only salvation."
Hopefully Bego is wrong, though it seems highly unlikely given the amount of time he inevitably spends with Turner and friends, not to mention the resources at his disposal as her biographer.
Hopefully seeing the concern of others close to her will inspire Tina Turner to get the help she needs!

- She stays pretty quiet. It''s kind of strange to hear anything about her personal life/problems.
- What''s wrong with Ike Jr?
- AIDS?
- How the fuck does Bego know? His biography of Turner is nothing but a collection of previously written articles. A badly written hackjob.%0D\

But I have to say that I found it really strange that Tina didn''t appear once on Oprah''s farewell season. Oprah and her are best friends (She would only accept the Kennedy Center Honor she got if Oprah was there to give the presentation.) And she even flew in to give a surprise performance on Oprah''s fiftieth birthday.%0D\

I hope it''s not true.
- I hope to Christ it''s not true.
- I hope it''s not true. I''ve been a Tina fan for years. She has been through a lot in her life and came out strong.
- She was just pictured staggering out of a restaurant stark raving drunk. Back in 2006, the same thing was caught. There are photos. \
\
It''s fine when you''re a kid. She''s 71 now! Not cute.
- On one of the (hundreds of) Oprah threads recently, someone said the same thing about Tina being in rehab. This was a few days ago. Someone had some insider scoop, I guess, but we all thought he was joking.
- It''s not "fine" when you''re a kid, R7.
- Drunk or not she still looks good. Good luck Tina.

- Actually 71 is a great time to be a roaring drunk or drug addict. Young people are just wasting their health and youth.%0D\
%0D\
All the same, I hope Tina will be o.k..
- Ike Jr. is a hard core crack addict. He has had rather brief periods of sobriety here and there and nothing more.%0D\

Tina Turner''s sister was ill with cancer or something. I do not recall off hand what it was exactly but she was ill as ill could be.%0D\

There has been a rumor floating about that Tina Turner might have obtained an assisted suicide for her sister. Now, her sister was on Hospice at the time, and so it is not like she was murdered or anything like that.%0D\

What a lot of people actually do not know about Tina Turner at all is that she is a very family orientated person. If she has taken up drinking in order to try and deal with what she has gone through lately with her very own family, then it is not surprising at all. What will be surprising if no one helps her because she is a ''good old gal'' to her family and even her friends.
I know what I know
- May her Budddhism grant her inner peace.
- Tina has never done anything for gay people.
- Per r13, I thought Tina was really into practicing Buddhism & meditating.\
\
How does an active Buddhist become an alcoholic?!?
- She inspired millions of drag queens, r14.
- She performed at the first gay games R14.%0D\
%0D\
She may not pander to us to sell records (Does that now constitute "Doing something for gay people?") but she''s never said a nasty word about us.%0D\

A class act.%0D

Hmmmm. She does live in Switzerland, IIRC, and they have special clinics there where it is legal as long as you meet the proscribed criteria. So it''s not much of a stretch. However, aren''t Buddhists totally against killing of any kind? Would be interesting to hear how that would be reconciled.
- I just love this personality and talent. I have, for what seem like always, cared for Tina Turner. I can''t see a road sign or street name starting with word nut without thinking of Tina coming from Nutbush. She once asked me on stage, a very little stage, at The Basin Street West, in San Francisco in the 70''s and sang a song to me. I was surprised and thereafter devoted. Silly I know, but I too had a rather bumpy time of it as a young person.
- I can''t imagine Tina Turner being a drunk, she is to classy for that. I wont accept it.

\
Not quite true. The clinics don''t have anything to do with assisted suicide, it''s "only" one company named Exit who does it. And they usually do it in a normal rented apartment.
Swiss chick
- This would explain why Tina was never on Oprah''s show this final season. One of my earliest memories of The Oprah Winfrey Show is Oprah joining Tina Turner on stage. They got along great and I believe Tina was at Oprah''s successful black women party about six years ago.
- R18''s "proscribed criteria" is a perfect balance to the rest of the post.\
\
Dear, refer to a dictionary and understand why we smile at you. : >
- No thread or mention of Tina's 73rd birthday yesterday?!?!
RE: Orpah
Tina has distanced herself publically from Winfrey since Winfrey made such a spectacle of herself at Hermes.
Tina Turner Troll, bumping ALL Tina threads
- Tina Turner? It is according to Dlisted.

- What did Oprah do at Hermes? And what is Hermes?
I always thought that rumor about Tina drinking was a load of crap.
- She goes off the wagon because her sister died - and her son is "sick"? She sounds like a narcissist.
Seriously some people cannot handle any adversity in their lives. Millions of people handle worse and manage to function fine.
And what about her Buddhism? I thought she was really into that?
- Is Ike Jr. her biological son?
- She was never "on the wagon," R27, as she never had a drinking problem, nor does she have one now. Mark Bego is a well-known hack writer.
No, Ike, Jr. is not her biological son.
- It was announced today that's she's given up her U.S. passport. Tina is now, officially no longer American. She's Swiss. For whatever reason, this makes me really sad. I feel like she's gone.
- She's lived in Europe since the '80s, so I don't see why this is a shock to anyone.
- It just means she doesn't want to pay U.S. taxes anymore.
- What are the chances she'll tour again? Slim-to-none?
- The Oprah vs. Hermes controversy:

- Yes, R27, if anyone has had an easy go of it this lifetime, it's Tina Turner

This is kind of sad, but not too surprising. She's always preferred Europe over the US and has lived there since the 80's. I don't even think she has a home in the US anymore.
- R33, she won't tour again. I was surprised she did it in 2008-09. She's 73 now and, while she still looks fabulous, I imagine she wants to just enjoy herself.
