• Good point R171. There's so much to loathe about Piers Moron that I'd never got around to hating his voice. Such a vital quality in any broadcaster, and in his case a big part of his huge inverse appeal. It's a sort of estuary whine with third-rate editorial authoritarianism badly grafted on top. That said, it's an accurate expression of his abilities. (Brit here who fears he'll inevitably crash in the US then come back like a conquering hero to stink up the UK airwaves again.)

• CNN had to get rid of Larry King because of the age of his audience. The battle is over the 18 to 49-year-old demographic, which is what advertisers want. Starting 20 plus years ago at least a third of King's audience was over 65, and it only got older and smaller with time. It died off. The same thing is happening to the Fox audience. It's huge, but it's very old and shrinking as the audience members die off. Fox is not adding new viewers fast enough to replace them. MSNBC has a much smaller audience but it's also much younger and thus attractive to the advertisers. MSNBC also has a particular following based on ideology. CNN is in a bind because the network doesn't want to be seen as partisan, but most regular news viewers really do prefer a slant with their news. And both ideological options are already taken. It's doesn't matter who CNN puts on air -- Morgan, Cooper, etc. The game is already lost.

• Wednesday, April 3 Piers Morgan pulls in a grand total of 383,000 viewers. At 8:00 on the same day, Anderson gets 556,000 and Chris Hayes(MSNBC) gets 584,000. Course, none of them come close to their Fox competitors.
