- Well, the reality is we probably don''t know the worst actor because he''s not getting hired for parts. \
\
But the worst actor I can think of is Maurice Bernard, who is a soap actor (Sonny, GH; Nico, ex-AMC), and yet makes his costars look like award-winning stage and screen actors.
- The Whoopster spent years insisting she was not an actress but an actor, and except for "Color Purple" she has done her damnedest to earn the "worst actor" prize.
Also, at this point Paltrow is right there, because she has lost herself in her own ego and self-regard. It's like watching a sun-bleached turd proclaim itself white chocolate every time she steps into the frame.
Winona Ryder. High school teacher's pet playing lead and having to have all the rented costumes hemmed because she's a dwarf.
Jennifer Hudson. Like watching a lobotomy patient.
Men? Forest Whitaker, McBongo, Tim Cruise (O My Lord, I attempted suicide to avoid sitting through the rest of "Born on the Fourth of July," and the years haven't helped him. That grating whiny voice. The dead eyes. The lack of facial expression, except for Lummox Intense and Lummox Pensive. He has never connected with another actor on screen in his career, except for Dustin H. and Brad Pitt. The preening!)
William Hurt. Pompous ass nontalent.
Most overrated? Paul Giamatti. The man has no soul. He has a small bag of tricks and a raging ego hidden in his fat midsection where he thinks no one will notice it, because he knows he can't compete as a leading man. What a hambone. John Adams my ass. His ineptness was okay when he could just get by as a character type, but once the big roles started he became a monster. In "Sideways" I wanted to beat him to death with every wine bottle in every scene he was in.
Vintage? How about Anthony Quinn? Shit. And Eli Wallach. It is only after he turned 80 that the disgusting old fuck finally managed to start figuring out what acting was about, and that was only because he had lost the teeth to chew the scenery in every scene.
- Nicolas Cage
- I''m convinced there is no actress working today worse than Kristen Stewart. She makes teenage, emo Winona look like Laurence Olivier in comparison.
- r7, got some anger issues there, honey?
- Tom Cruise won this thread & it is now closed.
- Kate Hudson and Matthew McConawhatever.
- Tom Cruise. No one else comes close to being as bad an actor as he is.
- Interview with a Vampire was hilariously awesome for the bad acting of both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.\
\
Julia Roberts. I swear the woman just plays herself in every role. And she''s smug about it.
- Tom Cruise. Just vapid, creepy and robotic.
- Mark Wahlberg\

Meg Ryan\

- Cage needs to take anything and everything he''s offered in order to pay his tax bills. if he nust stink up the screen, can''t he at least afford a decent rug?%0D\
%0D\
Heather Graham basically played herself in "Boogie Nights" (ie a useless bimbo). She must give amazing blow jobs to keep getting parts at 41.
- Come on now kiddies. Kate Hudson is by far the worst of those listed so far.\
\
In fact, has she EVER been in a hit film? At least the most of the others can say they keep getting hired because they''ve been in bonafide hits.
- Chris Klein auditioning for "Mamma Mia". Real of fake?
http://blog.moviefone.com/2010/05/18/real-or-fake-chris-kleins-horrific-mamma-mia-audition/
- Kate Hudson almost won an Oscar for Almost Famous, playing a dim-witted groupie. She was great in that film; the problem was, she wasn''t acting.
- Brad Pitt has been a blank space onscreen for... about twenty years now!!! In all that time he''s given a couple of half-decent performances, yet he continues to get offered all the best scripts. I think it''s largely because of his relationships with all these famous women, which keep his face in the media.%0D\
%0D\
He''s like the prototypical fame whore. And he''s damn good at it, much better than at acting. %0D\
%0D
- I have to also agree on Kristen Stewart. I just tried watching ADVENTURELAND with Kristen and Jesse Eisenberg and her method of emoting is mainly in the form of running her hands through her hair. As a matter of fact, IMDb lists her touching her hair about 55 times throughout the entire film.
Mia
- Funny you should say that R26. Check the Kristen Stewart School of Acting. It about sums up her career.

Moira Kelly (almost single-handedly destroyed Fire Walk With Me)\

John Travolta (at least for the last 20 years)\

Queen Latifah\

Dustin Hoffman (Perfume was the worst)\

-
Tom Cruise. No one else comes close to being as bad an actor as he is.\
\
I''m asking seriously, do you really think Cruise is the worst? I know we hate him and should hate him - with his weird, Scientology, closeted ass. And, I know he''s definitely a bad actor. But, the worst? I just don''t see it. Isn''t the choice of Cruise based somewhat reflexively on how repulsive of a person he is?
- I don''t think Cruise is the worst. Yes he''s hammy and robotic, but not the worst.
- Tom Cruise--not because he''s repulsive; it''s because he can''t act--he tries too hard--he can''t relax and be just human, like, say, Spencer Tracy among others.%0D\
%0D\
Keanu Reeves--a beautiful face I could look at all day, but can''t act; he has only one facial expression.
anonymous
- Brad Pitt is the worst actor I''ve seen in any film, apart from Cindy Crawford in that one movie she did with Billy Baldwin.\
\
I don''t know what it is about Pitt that sets me off. It''s like he wandered in off the street into the scene. Almost Brechtian.\
\
It''s not that he doesn''t try -- you can "see" all the effort. Seeing him beside Ed Norton in Fight Club and Christoph Waltz in GB was painful.
- R7 , I didn''t agree with R10 . Well observed and written.
- Hey, R10. Just responding to the thread with some focus and fun. Unlike you. But you do your thing because it''s so much easier and serves your little purposes, don''t you, honey? Gotcha.
R7
- Ok so I love Forest Whittaker''s acting R7. I agree with everything else you said so now I''m wondering what you don''t like about him.%0D\
%0D\
I thought that Mc Douche''s character really stood out in ''Dazed'' and I remember wondering "Who is this guy? He''s a natural." Little did I realize the sleazy arrogance would not wash off after filming. Ugh.%0D\
%0D\
This bring us to what R35 said about Keanu Reeves and the fact his face is so beautiful they could watch him all day even though he can''t act. I think some people are just watchable. His lack of arrogance makes him extremely appealing. There are others but of course I can''t think of who.
- The Twilight people are the worst. Nobody comes close. A log is less wooden.
- Sean Penn. Watching him impression a mentally challenged or a homosexual man makes me feel crawly, especially knowing that so many people will be leaping to their feet with "Bravo!"
- Brad Pitt? Seriously? Did you see Fight Club or this movie where he played Jesse James? He is far from being best actor, but he is not worst either.\
\
I think Ashton Kutcher is the worst actor in Hollywood today.
- The only thing that really bugs me about Keanu''s acting is his flat, robotic voice and cadence. If only he could get past that... I''ve heard he''s surprisingly good in his new movie, Henry''s Crime though. \
\
I wish I understood what happened to Nic Cage; I fear the same thing is starting to happen to Johnny Depp.
-
Brad Pitt? Seriously? Did you see Fight Club or this movie where he played Jesse James? He is far from being best actor, but he is not worst either. I think Ashton Kutcher is the worst actor in Hollywood today.\
\
You may be right, but I haven''t seen anything Ashton Kutcher has been in.\
\
Brad Pitt fucks up potentially good movies. Kutcher doesn''t star in anything I want to see.
- Worst actors in my opinion are those who always use the same mannarism to express certain emotions. The best examples are Brad Pitt(look at the scenes from Legends of the Fall when he sees his brother dying and the scenes from Troy) or as someone said Kristen Stewart. They have a trick for acting sad/happy/suprised etc.\
And people call that acting. I recognize it in every film such actors play. Same with Clooney.
anonymous
- R44\
\
Hm, well, I think Pitt definitely didn''t fuck up Fight Club, or Seven, or Babel, or The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, or Snatch, or Twelve Monkeys - those are good movies, some of them are terrific. Maybe not thanks to him, but he didn''t fuck those movie up either.\
\
He is far from being my favorite actor, don''t find him attractive, but I do think he is good actor.
- R43 I love the way Keanu pushes out his words. I can''t argue that he is a good actor but I could watch him all day everyday. I am absolutely guilty of going to see the new Keanu movie or the new Martin Scorsese film because I am a fan. The storyline is not generally a consideration. %0D\
%0D
- To whomver said he/she likes Forrest Whitaker--have you seem that new show of his? Oh my god--it''s like acting is running a 10k and his fat ass can''t hack it. I thought he was great in Crying Game. And granted, I didn''t see all of The Last King of Scotland-- but was he always this bad? He''s almost on par with William Shatner in that EVERY! WORD! IS! EMPHASIZED! And LOUD! exhalations of breath seem to punctuate all the phrases.%0D\
%0D\
THE! EFFORT! THE! ACTING!
He''s a GRAND! THESPIAN!
- Hey R48,%0D\
%0D\
I haven''t seen his new show but I find him believable in movies. I saw The Crying Game, The Last King of Scotland, and many others. I don''t know. There just seems to always be a vulnerable human quality that comes across in his characters-and I''m not just talking about TLKOS. I dig him.
- Jessica Alba. I''ve seen people kill themselves rather than watch her for one more minute.
- R48\
\
This show is just very bad. It''s so beneath him, to be honest. He made some bad choices with his movie roles, hit or miss all the time, but when his is hit, he is HIT!
- So it sound like I''m not missing anything R51.%0D\
%0D\
Hey R50, when you spend the whole movie in a bikini and people can''t stop talking about your poor acting perhaps you should call it a day.
- Andie Macdowell has been ruining movies since the 80s.
- R7 is so obviously an unemployed character actor who thinks he should have Paul Giamatti''s career.
- Brad Pitt was awful in Inglourious Basterds. If only they could have gotten a good actor for the role.
-
Interview with a Vampire was hilariously awesome for the bad acting of both Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise.\
\
Cruise was like a swotted fly, but the stillness of Pitt actually worked for him because it allowed one to drink in his beauty (aided by a non-American director who didn''t feel nervous about allowing such extended homage to male face).\
\
The worst actor/actress, in terms of scoring picture-carrying roles, is Keira Knightley: she blows out the water the notion that everyone can act to some degree. She''s like a black hole which sucks the life out of a film. \
\
As others have said here and elsewhere, Nicole Kidman is only good when she''s playing calculating bitches. Otherwise, as in ''Australia'' she can be an utter breathy-little-girl doing a school play embarrassment.\
\
One of my fave examples of a good actor delivering an awful performance is Judy Dench in Pride and Prejudice. To employ the old cliche, she could have phoned in the performance.
- I''m sorry but I OWN this thread!!
Cameron Diaz
- Sean Penn and Forest Whitaker are not bad actors, let alone the worst actors in Hollywood. Why do gay men always have to go there with the knee jerk "look at how discerning and super cool I am for hating everything" bullshit? It''s lame and bitter.
- Tom Cruise hasn''t been able to act his way out of a paperbag since Risky Business. He is, by far, the least convincing, most overdone, actor in Hollywood.
- I agree with the Kate Hudson mentions. She is godawful.
- January Jones\
\
Nicholas Cage
- R7 scares me.
- I had mercifully forgotten Kiera Knightley, who has singlehandedly kept so many good scripts from being turned into good films. But even a bad actress is better than Kristen Stewart; watching her is like watching a local high school girl wander in front of the camera and try some improv for the first time.%0D\
%0D\
But even if there was any talent in the "Twilight" actors, the franchise would beat it out of them. The scripts are the worst I''ve ever seen, and the fans are so undiscerning that they''ll wet their seats no matter how terrible the actors are. You can see them giving up onscreen, what casting agent will take them seriously after this?%0D\
%0D
- Watching Keira Knightly in Never Let Me Go, you can see her being out acted in every scene by Andrew Garfield and Carey Mulligan. Keira was reduced to nothing but window dressing. The only thing that saves her career is her reported beauty and her ability to rock some kick ass period costumes.\
\
Regarding the Twilight actors: Yes the material is bad. Really cheesy, but most big franchises are big and dumb and filled with bad dialogue. But my god, you could replace Stewart and Pattinson with puppets and get better performances. They all always look like they''ve taken a sedative before each take. No, it''s not just the material. I think they really are that bad. The worst.
- Jennifer Lopez\
\
Scarlett Johannason\
\
As for Brad Pitt, he has his moment and is not the worst, but he certainly isn''t good either.
- Brad Pitt is awful. He seems to talk out of the corner of his mouth and mumble his lines. When he has to get emotional in a scene, audiences end up laughing at him.\
\
And Matt Damon. When he was screaming "They''re trying to take you away from me" on a commercial for some shitty movie he was in, it was cringe-worthy.
- another vote for Forest Whittaker?\
\
How does this man have an academy award...\
\
Film Tv...HE SUCKS
- Nick Cage OWNS this topic
- I love Forest Whittaker. Ya''ll are crazy. \
\
Cameron Diaz- Every line reading she gives it''s like she''s acting in a porno. Once you notice this, you won''t be able to stop. Seriously, Porno.\
\
That fucking model lips that Kiera Knightly does. So distracting. \
\
Val Kilmer. When he wants to convey emotion, I''m convinced he just tries to shit his pants. Seriously, his expressions consist of trying to stifle a fart and trying to squeeze one out.\
\
Kristen Stewart. Is she brain damaged?
- One of my favorite Forrest Whitaker moments occurs in "Species."\
\
Whitaker plays a psychic/empath and he walks into a room that is dripping with blood, guts and alien goo. Just a mess! He looks around, and with the most gravitas he can muster, he says, "Something bad happened here."\
\
Ya think?!? What gave it away? Thank GOD there''s a psychic here to tell us exactly what we all can see!!\
\
Now, granted, this is more the screenwriter''s fault than anything else, but still. Awful!!
- She may not be the worst, but Michelle Rodriguez is the most limited one out of the bunch.
- Kevin Costner. Hands down the worst.
- Nicolas Cage, definitely.

Agree with R46 about Pitt. He''s not good or memorable actor, and he has been bad, but there are plenty who are worse. He has been at least more than adequate in a half-dozen or so good roles, which puts him ahead of actors like Depp who, against wild acclaim, have turned in shit performances for decades. %0D\
%0D\
I''ll at least give Pitt points for using his good luck to advantage and choosing some interesting projects, even if he doesn''t always excel at them. %0D\

- Scarlett Johansson, slam dunk.%0D\
%0D\
She''s coasting on her boobs and blonde hair and she knows it. Why do you think she hooked up with Sean Penn?
- You can tell Debbie is not really Debbie because anyone who knew or was friends with Elizabeth Taylor never called her "Liz". I have a sister named Elizabeth, and no one ever, in her life, has called her Liz. Gives you a small idea of how strange it must be to be (so) famous.

The true worst actors are the ones who rarely or never get hired, or the ones who just do soaps and stuff, not A or B-listers like the ones being mentioned in this thread.%0D\
%0D\
%0D\
Out of all the A/B list people the worst ones are probably Keanu Reeves, Kate Hudson, and Keira Knightley. Keira Knightley doesn''t act - she poses. I don''t understand how she got an Oscar nomination, or how any critics can think she is good or even just competent. Kate Hudson has never been good in anything other than Almost Famous. She was so bad in The Four Feathers that I actually felt embarrassed for her. Keanu seems like a nice guy, but he has never been good in anything.%0D\

I give Keanu credit for choosing movies like Speed, Point Break, and The Matrix. He looks so beautiful in them and doesn''t really need to act.
- Jake G.
-
I''ll at least give Pitt points for using his good luck to advantage and choosing some interesting projects, even if he doesn''t always excel at them.\

Pitt gets cast in good movies and ends up ruining them with his performances. There''s something to knowing your limitations and what your wheelhouse is. Even the best directors can''t get a good performance out of him.
- R90\
\
Once again, how the hell did he ruin Fight Club, for example? Or Seven? Or Babel? Those are terrific movies. You keep talking about Pitt ruining movies, but the guy has impressive resume and a lot of great movies behind his shoulders.
- r91 = Angie
- Everyone mentions plus David Spade, he makes my skin crawl.
- You cannot honestly say Brad Pitt if you''ve seen a movie like "Babel". He is NOT the worst actor in Hollywood.\
\
That would go to Tara Reid. As the WORST actor in Hollywood.\
\
And Charles Levin strictly for his role as "Coco".
- I would watch Keanu read the phone book.\
\
What about Laurence"don''t call me Larry" Fishbun?

Who knew Rex Reed was still alive?
- I disagree with all the Pitt hate. He''s one of the not particularly good, but he''s definitely not one of the worst. Guy has been in a lot of awesome movies, and while he''s not always the shining person in them, he performs admirably. At the very least his lack of talent doesn''t distract for his co-stars abilities, like Pattinson in Water for Elephants.

I agree. Especially about Pattinson. I don''t like Pitt, don''t know how he scores such Oscar bait movies, but he''s not the worst.
- Robert Pattison is awful. I saw some indie movie he was in and he sucked monkey dicks. Plus I despise his pasty skin, and smashed in face.
Weezie Jefferson
- Michael Caine is a terrible actor. That awful voice. How he won the Oscar for that lumpen performance in Hannah And Her Sisters, yet he commands enormous respect. Yucky, yucky.%0D\
%0D\
Julia should have been mentioned many more times, mostly because she looks so unhappy to be acting. Zero charm, yet worshipped by the masses.%0D\
%0D\
I agree about Warren Beatty. Bland.
- Reese Witherspoon has given 2 good performances and about a million bad ones.
- I agree with Julia looking so unhappy to be acting. I''ll go as far as saying I feel like I''m inconveniencing her by watching her movie.
- I love R101 for calling out Jolie and her "Count Chockula" accent! Stephen and I chuckle about this ALL the time when we''re socializing at the various awards shows.
Daphne Zuniga
- What about Ronn Moss "Rick!!!!"?
- I would rather watch a seemingly nice bad actor like Keanu than a better bad actor Fish or Forrest who seem full of themselves.
- I know he''s not the worst, but Bradley Cooper''s range seems to vary from Smug Douche to Smugger Douche. And Matthew McC should have been mentioned more by now; I''m pretty sure his entire range is limited to Stoned-Out-of-His-Mind Smug Douche.
- I totally mentioned McC a while back. And I agree.
- Sylvester Stalone without a doubt. Of course...he''s old now and not so much in demand (If he ever was).

- Most of you just like to be critical. Most of the actors mentioned are great. How many of you know ANYTHING about acting? Obviously, most of you are extremely ignorant and just like to critisize people you are jealous of.
- Megan Fox was the first name that immediately sprang to my mind. I''ve never seen her in anything that even remotely indicated that she may have shown a glimmer of talent in an audition or elsewhere besides the casting couch.\
\
As for Brad Pitt, he''s not a great actor but he did show some improvement over the years. Also, I think he''s making relatively smart career choices by picking projects where he''s not a headliner but apart of a cast of better actors where he can blend in and not have the pressure of carrying the movie.\

Her entire performance was nothing but runny mascara and a bad Boston accent. And she was just as mumbly and mush mouthed here as she is in Gossip Girl. Girl can''t act her way out of a paper bag.
- r6 It''s Maurice Benard with one r. He wasn''t always this bad. I guess it''s not like riding a bike.\
\
r100 BeYAWNce doesn''t count. She''s not an actress. She''s a gyrating singer that gets movie deals because producers think she''ll get asses in the seats which hasn''t worked out well for the most part. How can Leonardo DiCaprio be doing any movie with her? Does he have the world''s biggest drug habit?\
\
Brad Pitt is wooden and not the good kind of wood. His looks have always been overrated as well. He''s got a pig nose and acne pot marks on his face. He gives a wooden performance and gets an Oscar nomination. His girlfriend isn''t much better. Aside from being a narcissist (I mean who changes their surname to mean pretty in another language) she''s not a good actress at all. She stinks. \
\
But, Robert Pattinwhatever is really bad. How in the world is he getting all these parts. He doesn''t deliver the acting good and he''s not rolling in the money.\
\
How could Kristen Steward be decent in Panic Room but suck now?

I think those roles are going to dry up quickly.
- Kate Bosworth. I have seen her now in 3 films - Beyond the Sea, Superman Returns and 21, and she sucked in all of them. She has this knack of making you want to hate her and smash her in the face just by looking into the camera. Ugh.\
\
Jennifer Aniston - no explantion neccessary, obviously.\
\
Eric Roberts - instantly cheapens and dis-credits any production his name touches. The only guy who can claim that.\
\
George Clooney - the KING of smug douchness on camera. Honestly, he is great to look at but he just can''t act, period.\
\
Cameron Diaz - sorry doll, your fresh face days are long behind you. The extra cheese you add to every role just isn''t cute when you''re a 40 year old sunburnt chain-smoking matron, desperately clinging to any semblence of youth. Barf.
- Tom Cruise,%0D\

Next!
- Kelly Brook: Absolute talentless, useless bitch with a man jaw. Has coasted on the size of her boobs and perma smile and needs to get devoured by piranha's as a matter of urgency.
Cameron Diaz: Giggle, giggle... built like a 6 year old boy and thinks she's hot, for all her wealth she still has not discovered the joys of dermabrasion and a blue chemical peel.. Rough as a dogs arse
George Clooney: Perfectly parodied on american dad for his looky down - looky up with a brooding look thing
Adam Sandler: Always plays a version of Happy Gilmour in a different moods
Kristen Stewart; I have never seen Twilight but I want to kick her miserable face to death. You're not pretty, not cool and need to fuck off back up the asshole from whence you came
Maggie Gyllenhaal: Basically - WTF!!!?? Peter Sarsgaard can look down the toilet pan after a hard night out on the booze and a dodgy curry and find better
Emma Roberts: The second coming of the wank stain on the face of humanity
Linsday Lohan: I know who killed me? I know what film killed her fucking career!!
Colin Farrell: Cunt!!
Madonna: She must have sucked Guy Ritchies cock so well for him to allow her to star in, let alone release to the general public the crab infested pubic itch which was sweptaway and undermine his career by 10 years
And finally EVA MENDEZ always playing Eva Mendes - fucking one trick pony that needs to take a quarter and go down town to get a rat gnaw that mole off her face
Top Gun
- I like Charlie''s list. \
\
And I''d like to add Hilary Swank. She may not be the worst out there, but she is the worst two time Oscar winner for sure.
- r133, Jolie didn''t change her "surname". That''s her given middle name. Carry on.
- Robert Pattinson, Scarlett Johansson.
- Seth Rogen. He''s not really acting, though, he''s just being himself. I mean, he''s the same in every film.
- People must like Channing Tatum because he gets a lot of work. I don''t know why. He is dull dull dull.
- Ashley Judd. However, the people have wisened up to her lack of talent and all around cuntiness so the roles have dried up.
- I''ve always really hated Terrence Howard. There''s something so mannered about his speaking that just drives me crazy. Its like he always thinks what he''s saying is important. He was the worst thing about Crash, and I include the script, the direction, and Sandra Bullock in the list of things I was considering.
- R121\
\
I suggest you don''t assume that we lack the ability to tell when someone has decent talent and is good at what they do or not, unlike you.\
\
Your arguement is like saying that because someone is not a chef their tastebuds can''t tell when something tastes like shit.\
\
What you need to understand is that as consumers we are the experts because if we think someone is shit and don''t watch their films they don''t get work. Now, naturally people have differing views on what is good or bad which is why the recurring names on the list keep making films.\
\
That does not mean any of us are jealous it just means we would rather they fucked off and took you with them.\
\
DICK!!!
Top Gun
-
Ashley Judd. However, the people have wisened up to her lack of talent and all around cuntiness so the roles have dried up.\
\
She ruined [italic]Twisted[/italic]. I tried watching it on DVD because Philip Kaufman can be good and it had several good actors in it: Andy Garcia, Samuel Jackson, Mark Pellegrino, David Strathairn, Titus Welliver. I didn''t last 20 minutes. She''s supposed to be a self-destructive SFPD homicide detective, a blackout drunk who picks up men in bars for anonymous one-night stands. Judd was so feeble it was sad.
- Ashley Judd is a decent actress, but apparently she''s a major bitch so Hollywood discarded her.
- Elizabeth Banks. She does the same thing everytime and people stop and go "ahhhh. she''s such a good actress". I fucking hate her.
I hate Elizabeth Banks

Abso-fucking-lutely.
Jodie Foster
- The title should be: The Worst Actor or Actress Who Keeps Getting Hired?\
\
That would be Julia Roberts, I never got her at all. Still don''t get the accolades. She has absolutely no range.\
\
She basically plays a variation on the same character in every film OR it is....she plays a variation of herself in every film? \
\
Roberts clearly has no range, yet keeps getting hired because the hype machine has deemed her a worthy actress. \
\
Showing your teeth and giggling like a loon in pretty much every film, has nothing to do with acting.
- Elizabeth Banks was good in [italic]the Next Three Days[/italic], but it''s the only thing I''ve seen her in.
-
She basically plays a variation on the same character in every film OR it is....she plays a variation of herself in every film?\
\
You can say that about a lot of so called A-listers. Most find a persona that clicks with the public and rarely deviate from the script. Julia has the horse laugh. Anytime she''s tried to do anything else (Mary Reilly) she''s failed miserably. \
\
George Clooney is another one who gets tons of praise for essentially playing himself in every role. \
\
However I think there''s a difference between out and out horrible (Kristen Stewart, who can''t recite a word from a script without sounding like a robot) and a Roberts or Clooney or an Aniston, who can only play one character, and if not quite well, then not totally horrible either.
- Good point R156. I''ve always found Jack Nicholson kind of one-note, although he does that note very well. (Of course I always had the sense that he wasn''t really acting, as much as playing himself.)\
\
But Kristen can''t even get one note down... wooden and lifeless.
- Mark Wahlberg is the worst one I can imagine. Even Julia Roberts at least has charisma, but Wahlberg is a vacuum on the screen.
- Harrison Ford -- more hammy than a Honey-Baked store.
- The Culkins own this thread.

- seems like theres alot of hate in these replies. some good actors who are being called bad or awful???
brad pitt is lousy, tom cruise is bad, nick cage is awful, and there are plenty of new 'actors' who cannot act --- the film industry is just like the music industry in that the goal, now greater than ever, is to make money, regardless of the quality of the product. so you have dozens of 'marketing packages' that are pushed on the public.... 'singers' that cant sing, but they can be marketed and SOLD! 'actors' who cant act but they can be marketed and SOLD. channing tatum, zach efron, the entire cast of twilight. its no secret that hollywood favors the young -- why? because the average age of audience members is 15-25. so who best to get as many fannies in the seats? a crotchety jeff bridges? an over the hill pacino, botoxed spacey, or even past his physical prime russell crowe? all talented ACTORS but no, the pre- and pubescent public wants to see sexy, young, identifiable figures on stage. and if you remember being 16, how capable (or willing) were you to seek out talent over 'what looks good'? so the music industry is a gluttonous mess of marketable hotness with no musical talent and the silver screen is no different. dozens of the latest teen heartthrobs and sexy bods all lacking talent. the minute we started giving print and talk time to attractive but talentless people, we redfined 'celebrity' --- not famous for talent but famous for being famous. and that opened the door to simply SELLING HOTNESS.
the truth
- Keanu.
- Hollywood doesn't hire real actors anymore. Just pretty boys. The UK has superior actors because they actually studied for years. Same with the music industry. Manufactured cuties for the tween crowd with canned music, lip-synching and autotune.
- Nicolas Cage
- Annette Bening. Of everything I have seen her do, she is consistently the WORSE part of any picture. But she keeps getting work because for whatever reasons, Hollywood feels they still have to kiss Warren Beatty's ass, despite the fact that he has not done anything notable in decades.
- Second vote for Nicholas Cage. He has two facial expressions and one tone of voice. I enjoyed Adaptation but a hundred other actors would have been better in that part. Frankly the physical differences between the two brothers and the script are what got him some acclaim for that.
I don't get the Jeremy Renner push either. He's on the borderline of looking like a puffy lesbian Paul Williams impersonator in some scenes in the new Bourne trailer.
Oh, and Russell Brand. I want to take a bath everytime I see him onscreen. Ewwwww
- I give Ryan Reynolds a pass -
if he can say dialogue like "In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship evil's might, beware my power, Green Lantern's Light" without blushing or folding up into the foetal position, wailing about the horror his career has become, then he's an actor...
- I don't think I've seen a worse picture than 'Meet Joe Black,' so I'll go with Pitt too. I tried to like Benjamin Button, and I thought it was excellent and really atmospheric, but far too long. You could see the director was in love with Brad, but I never got all the way through it -- and I went to see it like three times (on a cruise ship...they played every night on the deck as some kind of maritime torture). Then I tried to sit through Inglorious Basterds and Pitt's southern accent really grated on me and "took me out" of the scene, made me aware of the (bad) acting.
- the absolute worst actor /producer/director in holly wood in the last century is will Ferrell he takes a really good movie/show and destroys it in the remake when he does his remakes the finished disaster makes you run for a barf bag it is that bad
joe
- Kate Hudson, although she seems to be on a downswing, luckily.
- with out a doubt the worst of the worst is will Ferrell he is not only the worst actor in history but also the worst producer and the worst director he takes perfectly good movies and remakes them into some sick joke of what they were loved for and when you see what he has done to ruin it you run or carry a barf bag with you it is so horrible
- Channing Tatum owns his thread. A good looking black hole of no talent but seems to be in every movie of the last couple of years.
- Vince Vaughn vs. line delivery
- Worst actor?
Sam Worthington
Absolutely horrendous actor, on every level.
- Dragged to one of Twilight films, sorry, movies.
RPat, sensitive student, recited Shakespeare. Owww. Very painful. (B. Del Toro, a decent actor, also hurt me badly when he did this in Wolfieguy, seen on internet for five minutes before hook)
But as I sat through Twi, in despair at prospect of the next 2 hours, I began to appreciate the studious hack work. And noticeably, that the actress, KS, seemed to know what she was doing, carrying RPat through the pic.
Could be Stockholm Syndrome tho.
- Robert Pattinson: I've only seen him in Water for Elephants & cannot figure out why he gets work. He seems to have only two expressions and both of them are boring.
Ben Affleck: I've seen way too many of his movies & he sucks in every single one. He has this sideways smirk he does & that's about it.
Demi Moore:The definition of wooden acting. Sill I end up liking her movies like Ghost and A Few Good Men. She's basically window dressing in decent to good movies.
Adam Sandler: He doesn't so much act as do an extended stand up routine within a movie. He seems good natured so I can tolerate his movies but he has no acting talent whatsoever.
Chuck Norris: I used to watch all his action movies even though he was the worse actor I've ever seen. Now his politics suck even more than his acting
Tori Spelling, Megan Fox, Keanu Reeves, Miley Cyrus
- I really want to like Annette Bening more, but I found her CRINGEWORTHY in her lavishly praised role in "The Kids Are Alright". I don't understand how people thought this hammy implausible bit of "acting" was any good at all!
- Shamar Moore, Terrence Howard and Isaiah Washington are terrible. I also don't get the fascination with Brad Pitt. Contrary to what some say, he really isn't that good-looking.
You can walk into any department store in a major city and find ridiculously good-looking salesmen (Nordstrom, Sachs, Neiman's, Barneys NY, etc.) who blow Brad Pitt and a lot of other Hollywood actors off the map looks-wise.
Say what you want about the douche-baggery of Tom Cruise, but the guy can act.

That's about the best description of Robert Pattinson's 'acting' I've ever read. But I've never lasted through all of Water for Elephants because it was just too boring and Rpatz came across as mentally challenged.
- I like Brad Pitt. And Keanu. Both are incredibly likeable, attractive, interesting to watch and I totally get why both are movie stars. That said, I also get why they seem to be leading the pack for this thread. Keanu is, to me, by far the worst of the two. Brad has been quite good in a few films. Keanu? Not really.
- Yeah, Brad definitely has some talent as an actor. Keanu seems like a truly genuine and decent person but dude is not a "real actor" at all.
Robert Pattison is terrible it has to be said. You can't blame it on Twilight, as others have said he is just as bad in other roles.
Seann William Scott
I actually think he is a legitimate comedic actor that has been funny in a number of roles. Playing the same schtick sure, but it works for him.
- Absolutely, Brad Pitt. And mainly because he gets great roles others could have made memorable. Read the worst reviews for "Benjamin Button", (mainly as a second-rate Forrest Gump") and yet he got an oscar nomination over some great performances.
Julia Roberts. Heard she took Broadway by storm! Not really!
Sometimes wonder if Tom Cruise was expecting an oscar for that rock 'n roll character he played.

- Most of the actors here are merely overrated, they were so good looking that average or below average ability was tolerated, or they were hired because they have that impossible to define star power, a la Pitt, who is at least passable. If we're talking just plain bad, then it's hard to beat Taylor Lautner, IMO. He more or less lucked into Twilight, and we'll have to wait for his 15 minutes to be over. I don't find him the least bit handsome, and he's a negative 500 on the sexy scale, but he's still out there like a fungus. Keanu Reeves must be the worst actor to have a long career. He's fading now that his looks are past their due date, but he still had a good 20 years as a movie star.
- Not sure if she's been mentioned before, but I'll go with Maggie Q.

- Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johannson, Daniel Craig, George Clooney, Ben Affleck, Tom Cruise, Leonardo Di Caprio, Johnny Depp .... most A Listers are bad actors. I can only think of RDJ as an A lister who is actually talented (in his case very talented). The moneymaking part of Hollywood is unfortunately very shallow.

- R25 SO TRUE!!! All you have to do these days is hook up with another celeb, famewhore your relationship, be in the gossip rags all the time, let the paps take pics of your kids and you get millions in actor salaries, get good roles and be a celebrated actor. So sickening the whole thing.
But actually we have to blame the movie going audience for this. Unfortunately enough people still want to see pretty boy faces rather than real actors. It seems to be working.

- Laura Linney
Seriously.
Think about it.
- R209 and that's exactly what limited talent BRAD PITT did...slept his way up, up, up the ladder with whomever was a hot commodity at the moment. Then he dumps them when next faster train to stardom comes along. Juliette Lewis, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jennifer Aniston and now Angelina Jolie. Its called breaking up(wards) in Hollywood.
- True dat R211. He would break up with Jolie but the next step up is only Streisand or Kathryn Bigelow. So he is stuck for awhile this time.
- Sylvester Stallone
Madonna
John Wayne
- R212, Jennifer Lawrence, Mia Wasisowska and Emma Watson are all free, but something tells me that they don't need any coattail-riders right now.
- Just saw Star Wars III again: Natalie Portman and Hayden were horrible.
Jodie Foster is also overrated.
- That Timberlake boy is atrocious. The lumber section of Lowe's is less wooden. I love Madonna but she should never be allowed to work in front of a camera again (music videos and concert footage are fine, but no more "acting" for her). I really hate when musicians are put into movies just because they have the desire to act. It distracts from an otherwise good film because they are so awful. They both sound like they are reading their lines. Other actors that are wooden are Scott Caan, George Takei and Sharon Stone.
Lumberjack Song
- R201: I am in full agreement about Kate Capshaw. I always loved "Indiana Jones & The Temple Of Doom", with one exception... HER. She delivers her lines like they are being fed to her through an earpiece and she screams endlessly for two hours. Karen Allen was such a terrific co-star for Harrison Ford in "Raiders", but Capshaw just totally shit the bed in "Temple". Horrific.
- Jodie Foster. I kind of had a crush on her when I was a babylez. Her acting stinks. I loved Silence of the Lambs, however, I could not understand the critical acclaim for her scenery chewing. I have seen better acting in Kindergarten talent shows.
- Ridiculous r218. She is no way overrated or the worst actor in Hollywood.
- Denise Richards in The World Is Not Enough. Terrible.
- Little kids in TV sitcoms. Most were/are just terrible. There are a few exceptions, however, most are distractingly putrid.
-
That Timberlake boy is atrocious
I think his last movie went straight to video again. Justin needs to stick to music.
- The one I am going to name is a beautiful woman and I love her. She is an icon. But Jaclyn Smith is very stilted and wooden. She seems like a good person but she's no Maggie Smith.
- I never could stand Eddie Murphy. Okay in comedy - should never try drama. I've hated him simce his homophobic stand-up routines 30 years ago. LOATHE HIM.
Nick Nolte
- Henry Cavill. He may have leading man looks, but he has supporting role talent (if that). He's just so dull in both movies and in interviews.
- Denise Richards in Starship Troopers, John Trasholta in Battlefield Earth, Natalie Portman in the Star Wars prequels and Liv Tyler in Armageddon. Absolutely some of the most seriously, offensively loathsome acting performances I've ever had the displeasure of witnessing in big-buget, A-list movies.
I'm not going to pick on an easy target like Keanu Reeves because he did give one amazingly good acting performance in "The Devil's Advocate."
- But if you don't want to pick on Keanu for that ONE good performance, why pick on the others for those ONE-named bad performaces?
The actors that you named have given good performances in other films.
- Jennifer Aniston, Mark Wahlberg he always seems so bored and unnatural. Cam Diaz over the top. Ashton Kutcher I actually liked in the butterfly effect.
- Robert DeNiro was one of the finest actors of all-time from 1973-1995. After 1995, he became a mumbling, bumbling caricature of himself. It's been painful watching him deteriorate from the greatest actor in the world to one of the worst in the span of 17 years. I loved him. What the hell happened? It's like he became Burt Reynolds, "Fuck you, pay me." Taking a big paycheck over a meaty role (which I am unsure that he could handle anymore).
Devastated
- Jude law is pretty overrated too.
Anonymous
- Brent Spiner. I loved his character Data in ST: TNG but have you ever seen him act outside of the Trek realm? It's painful.
- Bill Pullman.
Jeez, he must throw a mean blow job because his acting SUCKS!!!
How does he get cast in movie after movie? Seriously????
- R225, I have to second your vote for worst actor in Hollywood, going to Henry Cavill.
To highlight how bad he is, you can look no further than Cold Light of Day. No emotion at all. Plus, he had no desire to stay in character and talk with an American accent.
I guess the director got tired of trying to get a real emotion out of him.
- R233 Glad someone else agrees.
Yes, his acting was TERRIBLE in CLOD and I also noticed how he flipped back and forth between a American and British accent. It was as cringeworthy as when Madonna used to do that crap.
Same thing in Blood Creek - awful, wooden acting and went back and forth between accents again. He's good looking, but he simply does not have lead role talent. He belongs in supporting roles (and even then he's still mediocre).
R225
- Chuck Norris --- abysmal. I can't believe he's been repeatedly getting acting jobs in Hollywood. He has never made anything of quality. Horrible, just horrible. That, plus he's a conservative whack-job (one of the worst).
- Granted, there are some pretty awful actors listed here, but the list seems to be more about overrated actors than "the worst." Many of the choices seem to be based on some sort of personal animus that has nothing to do with anyone's acting ability.
Laura Linney? No way in hell is she the worst actor in Hollywood. Neither are Jennifer Aniston, Jodie Foster or Brad Pitt. As much as I hate to admit it, if I'm to be honest neither is Tom Cruise. As for Nikolas Cage? Now we're getting there. John Wayne? Definitely. He was less animated than a cigar store Indian on his best day.
- I don't know what the actor's name is, but the last performance I saw in a Hollywood movie that was so distractingly bad that I had to confer with the person beside me was definitely the guy on the plane in the opening scene of The Dark Knight Rises. The guy with the gun? Who was threatening to throw people off the plane if they didn't tell him Bane's whereabouts?
Does anyone know who I'm talking about?
- Mila Kuntis, or whatever her name is.
- Every producer and director wants to fuck Mila Kuntis so she will keep on working otherwise.
R229 DeNiro has a lot of kids to support and an ex-wife(who knows what ex-girlfriend,Touke Smith gets from him being the mother of two of his kids)and his current wife. He likes to live a certain lifestyle and that includes selling out. Then again wasn't Midnight Run selling out as well?
Julie Roberts must give the best bjs in the biz knowing every piece of the three piece set and the male g-pot as well! What a horrid worthless peiece of shit she was.
Marion Cotillard gave one of the best performances of the year in Rust and Bone and one of the worst in Dark Knight. Her death scene in Dark Knight remains possibly the worst death scene in the history of Hollywood. Lohan's fainting spell in Liz and Dick was far more real than that. I hope that Cotillard wins Worst actress in the Razzies and Best Actress in the Oscars. I hope she accepts the Razzie that would be utterly fabulous.....
- Olivia Newton-John
-
Absolutely, Brad Pitt. And mainly because he gets great roles others could have made memorable. Read the worst reviews for "Benjamin Button", (mainly as a second-rate Forrest Gump") and yet he got an oscar nomination over some great performances.
This. He and the industry have foisted him on some potentially brilliant roles and movies surrounded by the best talent only for him to give his usual tepid, safe (at best) performances when a more talented actor would have created something far more interesting. Brad Pitt had no business being in Fight Club, Seven, Burn Before Reading or Moneyball. But he seems to get first pick of the best projects.
Bizarrely, he's never really carried a movie to success on his own like, say Will Smith or Tammy do or did regularly. He's a movie star but more for tabloid reasons than box office.
- Adam Sandler. And FUGLY.

Sandra Bullock did just that.

I literally laughed during her scenes. I can think of no other actor that has made me laugh like that. And then she ruthlessly and shamelessly tried to get an Oscar for that piece of doo doo.

- I agree that both Tom Hanks and Adam Sandler are among the worst actors (misnomer). Is that why we keep finding their old movies at 2nd hand stores? By the way, how many knew that Tom Hanks got the stranded guy on an island idea from a cute screen saver with the same name?
I disagree that Brad Pitt is a bad actor. He can change and has had terrific roles where I didn't even know it was him! (Great acting)

- I like Adam Sandler and his movies, they're usually good for some laughs.
- Actually McBongo redeemed himself for me with his performance in Killer Joe this past year. Really frightening and strangely sexy.
- Brad Pitt, bland and unconvincing in almost every film he's every been in. He's there to look good, which is baffling as I don't find him attractive either, his blandless undermines his looks, and btw I'm a woman writing this
- Brad Pitt is just unwatchable for me. I weep at the many roles he's ruined because he gets to pick and what a truly talented actor would have done with them.
