Ted Turner- Maybe Ted needs to come back.
- Stop spewing Corporate Propaganda and tell people the truth. This is why people are turning on mass to the internet.
- Fire Piers Morgan.
- If AC came out, his ratings would be at least as good as Rachel Maddow''s.
Thomas Roberts
- It''s "en masse", r2, and where on the internet are they turning to? I thought the "on masses" watched Fox.
- AC does need to come out but he''s been doing a little better in the ratings lately:

- CNN is almost as right wing as Fox - just subtly so.%0D\
%0D\
Fuck CNN.
- True R7. They spend most of their broadcasts bashing liberals now and kissing up to Newt Gingrich and the Tea Party.
- Get rid of plump-faced chortler Piers Moron. He just appeared in the Diana movie darkly implying she''d been murdered by Buckingham Place based on James Bond movies he had seen.\
\
His ratings are low and he''s not working with a US audience.
- Nancy Grace, Jane Velez and the whore hopper need to go with Piers. Their nighttime line up sucks.
- CNN is boring, especially Piers. THey need to increase the volume.
- People don''t watch cable news unless there''s a major event happening. For instance, Bill O''Reilly brings in about 2.8 million viewers a night, Fox''s highest rated program. NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams brings in 9 million viewers a night. Even Katie Couric was attracting twice as many viewers as O''Reilly.
- Careful now r12 nbc and cbs numbers are inflated.
- how are CNNHL ratings? (DR. DREW, Nancy Grace, Joy Behar etc.)%0D\
%0D\
%0D\
where can you see the daily ratings? is there a website?
- Put Don Lemons on five nights a week!
- What R1 said.\
\
CNN (Domestic) is an embarrassment.
- Don Lemons is part of the problem.
- Still cant figure out why Time Warner bumped them off of channel 10 in NYC and moved them to the hinterlands of the dial.
- "Piers Morgan posted some of the worst ratings EVER for the month of April"\
\
I knew he couldn''t be as good as me.
Larry King
- r9, what in hell are you dribbling on about?
- Put Rob Marciano in front of a wind machine and let it blow his clothes off while forecasting the weather!
Gypsy Rose Lee
- They should watch videos of CNN in the late 80s and early 90s, before they caved in allowing Jerry Falwell as a legitimate voice representing Christianity and before they caved into being the all-Monica, all-the-time network.%0D\
%0D\
Then, copy what they used to do. News.
- R9 here. There is a movie opening at the Cannes Festival funded by Dodi Fayed''s father. It claims that Diana Princess of Wales was assassinated by Buckingham Palace. It is made by Keith Allen, the father of Lily Allen. It looks like a tacky episode of "Snapped," only worse -- real tabloid stuff.\
\
Piers Morgan is in it, saying that because we know from James Bond movies that MI6 kills people...well, that means that Mi6 killed Diana.\
\
This movie is ridiculous and Piers Morgan looks like a fool in it.\
\
You can see the trailer on YouTube.

Best news I''ve heard all day. Who left the damn drawbridge down over the moat? Send the jackass back to England and lock the gates. We don''t want him.
- CNN is proof positive that the conservative takeover of the US media was never about MONEY, because if it were they never would have followed everybody else to the right. It has been a financial disaster for them.%0D
- That''s why MSNBC went Left wing, which was smart. Cable news is all about $$$, and if they just became another Right wing news channel, a la Fox, they''d be lost in the shuffle. They''ve distinguished themselves from the pack. CNN is now in the middle, not politically, but not knowing how to brand itself. These networks don''t seem to be able to stay neutral or middle-of-the-way politically, and make money.
- R14, Dr. Drew has been struggling in the ratings and Nancy Grace and Joy Behar only do fair. TVNewser (@ link) and TV By The Numbers have daily cable ratings.

- Position a BB gun shooter beside Camera #1 and take random potshots at Nancy Grace during her broadcasts. \
\
Make her squeal and howl. \
\
BB gunner should always aim for her nostrils and/or the eyes.
- r26 - there''s nothing "centrist" about CNN. If you pay real close attention - it''s as right wing as Fox.
- John King covers his whole head in Prep H to help out McCain. He''s already up there anyway.
- He''s that way with all the right wingers R30. Eliot Spitzer can''t do his show without going after Obama and he has TWO, count ''em, TWO conservative contributors on his show to help him with that - the woman was kicked off Fox and is a fool. I thought Spitzer was a Democrat? He doesn''t seem to like them.
- r31 - whether Spitzer is a Democrat or not - he''s a paid employee of CNN which is a right-wing news org.
- LOL at R30!
- CNN needs to get rid of all the partisan pundits and just put on experts and people who deal in facts to talk politics. More people like Fareed Zakaria and Peter Bergman and less Dana Loesch and Erick Erickson.
- Short of bringing Ted Turner back, they should just run CNN International coverage all the time. CNNI coverage is much more objective than regular CNN coverage and gets real news, not corporate press releases regurgitated. CNNI is like watching CNN in an alternate universe.\
\
Keep Anderson, because he''s a decent and mostly honest journalist, if too emotional and sensational. Keep Fareed, Candy and some of the other correspondents. Get rid of most of the rest of the U.S. anchor personalities, including Wolf Blitzer who is a blowhard who doesn''t listen and frequently speaks without basis. \
\
People would still tune in for breaking news, which is what CNN still excels at. People know CNN has reach and relative objectivity when covering breaking events (I''m not referring to HLN, which is sheer, exploitation crap). That''s why they tune in to CNN when there is a breaking news story. They can''t get that from FOX or the major networks.
- CNN can go back to their roots... get actual reporters to report actual news.%0D\
%0D\
Stop with the FOX-News worship. Become the anti-FOX News. Not in the MSNBC way, but in the "The truth, pull no punches, expose the liars and theives and hypocrits" way. Cover things that aren''t being covered anywhere else.%0D\

Return "Headline News" to its old format too... non-stop 30 minute news casts around the clock.%0D\

- Anderson Cooper is not a decent journalist or even a journalist by any means of the imagination.

\
This is Style with Elsa Klensch. \
\
Everything went down hill after she left.
- Don''t like Candy Crowley, she''s a right wing apologist. Get rid of her, John King, Dana Bash, Drew Griffin, Wolf, Ed Henry, Gloria Borger, Jack Cafferty, Kyra Phillips, Tom Foreman, Jessica Yellin, Ali Velshi, Joe Johns and stop inserting Sanjay Gupta into non-medical reporting. %0D\
%0D\
Everyone else is passable. I like Anderson, but he sometimes veers to the right too much. He kisses Ron Paul''s racist ass all the time.
- There is only one way CNN will ever be good again... put Ted Turner back in charge of it.%0D\
%0D
- It''s not surprising that Piers Morgan dryed up when the guests became less and less famous. Hell knows his snotty british attitude couldn''t keep people watching. CNN is just too boring with their journalistic integrity and middle of the road coverage.
- [quote]Anderson Cooper is not a decent journalist or even a journalist by any means of the imagination.%0D\
%0D\
It was intended that he be a journalist but as time went on he became the closeted entertainer we know now.
- Fire Klein, fire Blitzer.
- ITA with R40.%0D\
%0D\
Of course if CNN did this, they would have to get rid of most of the newscasters.
- Klein is gone, but in his place is the man who brought Glenn Beck to tv.
- Essentially, CNN, under the guise of neutrality, has no point of view, even when the facts absolutely warrant one.\
\
MSNBC has an acute point of view, as does Fox (though it''s right-wing drivel).\
\
For instance, DOMA or DADT do not require both a gay proponent and a Fred Phelps-type to debate the issue, when it''s obvious to most viewers what the morally correct course of action is. CNN does this repeatedly and seldom challenges antiquated bigotry, which is a little like having Al Sharpton and a KKK spokesperson debating the merits of interracial marriage. Ludicrous, and a complete turn-off to sophisticated 2011 audiences, yet CNN continues this journalistic false equivalency with impunity.\
\
Furthermore, the dead weight needs to go. John King and especially the muttering, disconnected Wold Blitzer immediately spring to mind. Neither man has much journalistic cred any longer.
- R47 nailed it.%0D
- I actually heard Piers Morgan say he felt he would do well in this country because Americans love British accents. Evidently quite a few advertisers believe that as well. If this was ever true, and I doubt it because the sound can be completely nauseating, that gawdawfull brown woman who talks with Anderson Cooper will shortly kill the notion for good. %0D
- To get their old ratings they'd have to go back in time to before FOX came into existence when they had no cable news competition.%0D
%0D
Partisan branding works well in capturing a loyal, continual audience. For that CNN would have to go at least as far to the right as FOX or as far to the left as MSNBC, even farther if possible to steal audience. I hate FOX and don't want another network like that (for all the comments here CNN is definitely not FOX now, it like the old MSNBC has been bent towards the right by the years of loud accusations of left wing media bias and the temptation of the bigger right wing cable news audiences) but realistically the bigger regular right wing cable news audience would make success through splitting that audience more feasible than splitting with MSNBC.%0D
%0D
I do think they should probably just leave domestic american politics to FOX and MSNBC mostly, though, and brand themselves as something else all together. They have a big international apparratus the other two networks don't have, so it could be a good idea to capitalize on that strength by focusing on international news. I think there are more Americans interested in the world at large than America is given credit for having.%0D
%0D
Piers Morgan is not a good person for an interview show. He's not an engaging personality, I don't know anybody who thinks of him as someone they want to spend TV time with. He's also too pushy with harmless celebrities but not armed with good follow up for politicians. An intelligent politically aware comedian would be much better if there is one available who doesn't already have a show.%0D
%0D
Show hosts who are appealing personalities and willing to take some sensible stands would be a good thing. TV audiences respond to a sense of personality and good feeling they get from a host, whether it is "Uncle Walter" Cronkite or wisecracking Rachel. Keep Anderson on board. Take bland useless baggage like John King off of hosting shows. Bring over some CNNi people like maybe Richard Quest. Richard is funny and silly but actually quite bright and knowledgeable. That would also give them the option of pairing Quest with AC for events to create an entertaining but informative giggle fest.
- "I think there are more Americans interested in the world at large than America is given credit for having."\
\
Um, no. Idiocracy came true.
- r46 didn''t the former HLN head who is now running CNN also give outspoken liberal Joy Behar a show and keep Jane Velez-Mitchell after she came out on air and became a loud champion of gay marriage? I think he just cares about ratings and success mostly, not politics. MSNBC executives have been very upfront in interviews I''ve read that their new left wing marketing direction is a ratings strategy based on the FOX model, so he wouldn''t be alone in that and the MSNBC changes show that sometimes what is cynical pandering on the part of executives can actually produce good results for the people when it happens to coincide with their interests.
- r51 cable news audiences are tiny in comparison to other kinds of television audiences and in comparison to the size of the population in general. Even FOX ratings are only any kind of impressive when compared to the ratings of other cable news networks. It would only take a very small portion of the US population to take interest in international fare from CNN for the network to get numbers that would be considered a success in the cable news sphere.
- All cable news in America is a joke. FOX only benefits because Americans who watch FOX are to dumb to be in on it. And there are more of them. \
\
Just look at CNN International vs CNN.
- The fact is, many many millions of Americans have given up on cable news altogether because it''s so stupid, except that some of them will tune in (to CNN) when something major happens.\
\
CNN seems to have no interest in winning them back. Instead, it''s trying to capture MSNBC or Fox viewers. Hence the endless loud-mouthed pundits, trivial stories, etc.
- The pundits on CNN are sickening. Last week all CNN did was bring in losers from the Bush Administration to try to spin the Osama Bin Laden killing in a way to make it look as though THEY did it instead of Obama.
- The biggest demographic for CNN or headline news is hotels, airports and gyms. I can''t believe anyone would seriously turn that shit on to get their actual news. Other than disaster porn, they got no game.
Edward R Murrow
- Get rid of the Schlub monotones: Wolf Blitzer and John King!
- Wolf used to be like Anderson in the early 90''s. He used to go to all the hotspots all over the world and wasn''t as dull as he is now. I used to like him back then.
- R2 nails it. CNN is unchallenging.

- How about being a NEWS network? Report hard news from all over the world. Drop the soft chit-chat and screaming talking heads shows and replace them with news. Put Headline News back into its former format with NEWS, Sports, Weather at regular intervals. Hire journalists known for reporting, not carnival acts like Wolf Blitzer and Nancy Grace.
Move from Atlanta, which is still a second-rate sleepy southern burg and move to New York and Washington where things happen.
Hire a few unapologetic liberals instead of a steady stream of media whores and corporate fellatio artists.
- And of course, this.
Honestly. What kind of news outlet can say Tripoli is in Lebanon, ask "Where's Obama" when they're talking about Osama bin Laden; not locate Switzerland on a map, and claim the space shuttle exceeded the speed of light - and still be taken seriously?
To top it off, they demonstrate that they, along with Faux Newz, write the news before it happens. That's got nothing to do with journalism.

- [quote] How about being a NEWS network? Report hard news from all over the world. Drop the soft chit-chat and screaming talking heads shows and replace them with news. Put Headline News back into its former format with NEWS, Sports, Weather at regular intervals.
That would be a great strategy ... if it was 1992 instead of 2012. People don't turn on their TV to get the latest news headlines or sports scores or weather forecast because they're already getting that information all day long on the Web or on their smartphones. And it wouldn't make good business sense to invest a ton of money in hiring more reporters all over the world to cater to a steadily shrinking niche audience. I miss the good old days of CNN and Headline News, too, but it's no longer a viable option.
- So true, r76.
- Anderson and Ben wedding special.
- Big breasted women always boost ratings.
- Make CNN a proper hard news network and have HLN be the silly American piece of corporatist drivel.
- Theodore needs to buy back his network, shut it down for a few months and then premiere the network as it was in its prime in 1991.
- Maybe they should get back to reporting the news.
When they re-branded as HLN, it was very telling. If they go by the initials, no-one will be reminded of that pesky word 'news'
Like when Kentucky Fired Chicken re-branded as KFC - god forbid they associate themselves with the word 'fried'

- [quote]Hire journalists known for reporting, not carnival acts like Wolf Blitzer and Nancy Grace.
It would be a singularly boring carnival that featured Wolf Blitzer. At least Nancy Grace doesn't speak in a monotone -- instead, she shrieks, but that's fitting for a carnival.
- I gotta admit though - and I thoroughly dislikee Piers Morgan - but his interview with Robert Blake was compelling tv.
