Agghhh...I am getting sued by my former college over student loans.

They sent me something from the superior court. I owe them 3,500 dollars. I hate to sound like a whiny bitch, but what do I have to do?? It doesn''t say I have to appear in court. I don''t know OP, I paid off a little more than half of my student loan and then fell behind a few months ago. Now I owe $1000 instead of my usual $200 payment. They call and call. I turn off my phone.\ \ I just don''t care anymore. \ \ I''ve been paying off bills for years and they never seem to end, so fuck it. It''s all a massive scam to enslave you and the biggest scam of them all is "it''ll ruin your credit!!"

The worst that can happen if you do nothing is the college will win a court judgment against you and garnish your wages until the debt is paid.

r29: You must speak with them. Ask for a forbearance or a deferment. Look on your lender''s website for information and forms. Speak with the lender ASAP. The problem will only get worse.
OP, if you cannot get the case dismissed, you should request a jury trial. DO NOT admit to the debt. The worst thing that you can do is go to court and say "Yes, this is my debt." Just tell the judge that you don''t know if it is in fact your debt as the Plaintiff has failed to provide you with enough evidence or supporting documents in the complaint. Say you don''t know what debt they are talking about. Make them prove their case. The burden is on them.

I paid my loans every month after I got out of school, I even set myself up on an accelerated plan to be done with them quicker..... OP's debt most likely did not all come up in the last few months, which means, despite being in debt and heading toward default, he said "oh it's just $18" I could still read and chat on DL but I just have to start threads and bitch during prime time... Do you not see the bigger problem? OP probably reasons like this in all aspects of life, throwing away $18 here and there and more because he has no sense of proportionality and lives beyond his means. I lived in a studio, didn't have cable, etc. until my debt was paid off. And I still save money so I have it to splurge when I want. Be smart. Live within your means.
Let's offer an example. Assume you buy lunch out at work for $10 but could have made your lunch for about $3. Make your lunch five days a week, you save $35. Do this 100 weeks (2 years) - there's OP's debt. In 2 years, You don't have to scrimp and save across the board, and never go out to lunch but avoiding takeout, getting two new sweaters instead of three .... it adds up.
