Why Don''t 20 Year Old Girls Look Like Women Today?

I swear, it''s an entire generation of the Olsen twins look. These girls still look like teenagers in their twenties now. What happened? I know styles change, but their facial features still look like children.

Well, most women''s fashion looks little-girlish these days. The high-waisted loose dresses are porporitoned like a grade-school girl''s dress (random example at link), and all the short shorts and flower prints being pushed can make any woman look immature, or even infantile.%0D\ %0D\ It''s like the fashion industry is out to keep women from being taken seriously.

I think that was why there was such a hubbub over "Mad Men" - the guys looked like adult men and the girls looked like adult women.\ \ Not advocating a return to foundation garments for women, but I think a lot of younger women looked at Christina Hendricks and saw something they wished they were: curves, hairdo, beautiful makeup, feminine wiles and power. Of course, it wasn''t the power to get an executive office (most of the time), but she looked damned terrific.
The Olsen twins are 20 somethings that dress like 40 somethings. What are you talking about? Did you see them at the Met ball? They look OLDER then their age. \ \ The problem is the olds like Demi and Madge insisting that they''re in their 30s.
It seems like everybody is trying to look about the same age these days. It''s hard to distinguish people between 25-45 anymore.

Infantalisation of women is nothing new, but I agree that it seems to getting worse. Women are not appreciated for being women - they are not allowed to age or look mature, or even look like they''ve reached puberty in many cases.
You must be about 80, OP. At that age, everyone under 50 looks like a child.
You see it men just as much, agreed that is kinda hard to tell ages, "everyone" tries to pass off as young as possible and with really childish clothes sometimes. Women wear doll dresses and hippie styled hair, guys baggy jeans and those big framed glasses. You see 40 year olds wearing this shit.
Americans are youth-obsessed. It''s tragic when you see people over 40 act like people in their 20s, but I guess Americans think this is "awesome".
I'm 20 years old and I look like I'm twelve. I have to do my make-up a special way to look older and I still just barely look twenty. There are a lot of girls like me that don't look as old as they are. Trust me, it's more of a problem for us than it is for you.
OTOH, teen girls and college women 50+ years ago looked middle-aged by today's standards.

Very true, r25. Looking at my parents' high school yearbooks from the 60s, many of the 18 year-old seniors looked like they were 30. If the photos were taken out of context, I would never guess that they were high school students.
People look younger now than they did in the past is because most people don't smoke like chimneys anymore. Even up until the 80s, people were puff puff puffing all day on cigarettes - in offices, airplanes, etc. We're now seeing what people look like when they have adequate oxygen intake and are not inhaling smoke all day long. I agree that the little girl outfits are bizarre. It's especially bizarre what some, not all, women think is appropriate to wear to work when men just wear suits every day. My old female boss used to complain bitterly about what her female colleagues would wear to work, but was also guilty of wearing tattered yet revealing clothing. Men where I live don't dress "young" on their off hours, but all insist on wearing those brown flip flops. Ugh!
