Should I get an iPhone?
I feel like the last person on planet Earth with a flip phone. That said -- aren''t iPhones expensive? Why does everyone seem to have them?
- I don''t care if you do or not.\
\
Sorry.
- get a white one!!!!\
\
more money, more bugs, more gay bragging rights!
- No
- I like mine, but I would like to try one of those Google Android phones, too.
- OP, you and I are the last ones on earth with flip phones.\
\
But, my battery is almost dead, so I''ll be making the switch pretty soon.\
\
iPhone or Droid -- not sure yet.
- Get one if you''re an apple user and want to coordinate with your iPod or Mac. Otherwise, consider an Android, especially if you use apps like Google Calendar and Gmail.
- OP here. I use Gmail all the time - will it be hard to sync my Gmail with an iPod?
- get a droid. better phone, navigation, color, etc.
- OP and R5 - neither of you is alone.
Flip-Phone Fans Of The World Unite
- Me three. And yes, my flip phone also has a battery that no longer holds a charge.
- I put my flip phone through the washer and dryer. It survived, but I didn''t want to rely on a phoned that had gone through the spin cycle. I bought an iPhone, and I have never regretted it. It means not taking my laptop on trips, not having to have a music device, and the ability to get laid very easily. If you can afford it (and the data plan), do it.
- I prefer iPhone over Droid. The Droid is buggy and the navigation isn''t intuitive. Also, there are fewer apps for Droid.
- Also, if you''re only used to flip phones, know that you should get a phone charger and plan on charging your smart phone more frequently. They are power sucks.
- Don''t chargers come with the iPhone?
- R2, they''re easier to teach and they work harder!
- I have a flip phone and I''m constantly catching shit for it by my asshole friends. Sometimes when I pull out my phone amongst strangers they give me a weird look like I just time traveled from the Dark Ages. \
\
It also doesn''t help that it''s a Boost Mobile phone and, of course, Boost feels the need to have their name and logo emblazoned upon all their phones. UGH.
Resentful, cheap bastard
- I''ve used both an Android and iPhone and prefer the Android.%0D\
%0D\
iPhones are prettier, though.
- Don''t feel bad OP. My flip phone is so old that AT&T warned me that as of August, it will not work on their network. DAMN IT.%0D\
%0D
- I had an android phone and liked it, but was given an iPhone for work so made the switch. I don''t like how you can''t customize much about the iPhone, but other than that, it''s a really solid phone. The apps are the icing on the cake. I like the look of WP7 as well. \
\
We use Google Apps for work, and the iPhone has no problems with it. Gmail works fine, as does the calendar.
- I still have a flip phone. I''d love a smart phone of any kind, but I just can''t afford it.
- I can''t afford the data plan, which is why I don''t have an iPhone or an Android.
- I will get a Mini iPhone if Apple ever makes one. The regular iPhone is just to big for me.
- [quote]OP here. I use Gmail all the time - will it be hard to sync my Gmail with an [iPhone]?%0D\
%0D\
No. I synch mine to Gmail with no problem.
- I love flip phones. It''s the male version ofthe compact. It''s an art form to shut it with just te right amount of vigour. Joan Crawford would have had a flip phone.
- You flip-phone gals need a Jitterbug.
http://www.greatcall.com/Phones/JitterbugGraphite/
- OP, you definitely do not need one.%0D\
%0D\
No one needs one really.%0D\
%0D\
No need to follow every fad or any fad for that matter.%0D\
%0D\
Use independent thinking rather than following the crowd of unthinking sheep.
- The monthly charge for iPhone connectivity with AT&T is way too expensive.
- Ms. R26 doesn''t even own a television.%0D\
%0D\
Imagine that!
- I''ve had three iPhones, but now use an Android phone. Each of the iPhones lasted about a year before they started malfunctioning - occasionally at first, then persistently. They''re nice, but a phone that expensive should last for more than a year before it starts failing.
- Don''t get an iPhone if you want to watch Flash Video on it...Apple doesn''t allow the Adobe Flash format (Which by the way, most of the video embedded on the WWW is Flash).
- My iPhone screens break once a year. You have to keep them in a thick otterbox plastic & rubber brick to protect the edges and back (it''s glass).\
\
Also, it''s a six hour phone if you use it for netflix, safari, or Angry Birds.\
\
If you like your flip phone, get a slider phone - the querty keyboard and number pad slides down at the click of a button just like Trinity''s phone in ''The Matrix''.
- "I still have a flip phone"%0D\
%0D\
I haven''t even caught up with flip phones!
- [quote]I still have a flip phone. I''d love a smart phone of any kind, but I just can''t afford it.\
\
What the what? How could anyone not afford an iPhone?\

\
Can you watch Cam4 on Android phones?
- R33, Uncle Steve says that SRO your posting from has rats the size of ottomans.
sent to your iPhone
- R12 obviously never touched an Android phone lest he/she would know that there are thousand upon thousands of apps for Android, even that gay favorite, Grindr.

- I''m with r32. My phone is a $30 pay as you go T-Mobile device.
- Wait for the iPhone 5, it should be released in the Summer.
- [quote]Don''t get an iPhone if you want to watch Flash Video on it...Apple doesn''t allow the Adobe Flash format (Which by the way, most of the video embedded on the WWW is Flash).%0D\
%0D\
That''s to keep the iphone from getting viruses while on the internet.
- [quote]Wait for the iPhone 5, it should be released in the Summer.\
\
Yeah, but isn''t this part of the whole scam -- that there is always a "newer, better, faster" version coming out "in a few months."\
\
Don''t you have to, at some point, just jump onto the moving train?
R5 -- one of the flip phoners
- I just want to be able to keep typing with two thumbs. My boyfriend''s hunt-and-peck on the Droid looks painful, but the slip-out keyboard looks very 1911.
- [quote] Yeah, but isn't this part of the whole scam -- that there is always a "newer, better, faster" version coming out "in a few months."%0D
%0D
Yes, it is part of the scam. This is how it works:%0D
%0D
My iPhone 3G broke. It was out of warranty. In three months, I had the ability to upgrade to a 3GS for $49 with ATT. But ATT wouldn't let me upgrade early. And I couldn't wait three months for a new phone. And Apple said my iphone 3G could not be fixed and I'd have to pay $200 for replacement 3G. I said, "But ATT is selling the 3GSs for $49, and you want to charge me another $150 for the older model?"%0D
%0D
Yep, Apple said. If you want a 3GS, it's $300.%0D
%0D
Luckily, I'd gone on a "family" plan with my bf, his sister and his elderly parents. The parents have had the same cellphone for years and still can't figure out how to use it. The parents were due for an upgrade and ATT allowed me to get their upgrade, so I got a 3GS for $49. %0D
%0D
But if I were on an individual plan and couldn't upgrade, I'd have been sooooo fucking pissed.
- OP, I have an iPhone, but if I were you I would keep existing phone and get a tablet computer, check out Samsung Galaxy Tab.
- Is your 3GS still fine r42?
- That''s exactly what I did, R43. I like the Galaxy and I rarely use my cell phone, but carry it for emergencies, with a T-mobile pay as you go plan.\
\
Interestingly, I bought the ATT Galaxy, which is a lot more expensive, but T-mobile insisted on a 2 year contract for their data plan. If you price the plan with the phone, ATT turned out to be cheaper overall for me.
- OP, if you''re at all tech-oriented and like to play around with customizations, etc. go for an Android phone. If not, get an iPhone. I''m a long time Apple user, but I love my Android Nexus One-- I can set it up to be a free wireless hotspot, I can expand its memory if I want and I have it tweaked with widgets (like a nifty scrollable calendar) and other functionality. \
\
If you do go Android, I would look into one of the Nexus Phones-- Nexus S is the most recent. They offer the "pure" Android experience without the overlay of additional software that carriers add to their Android phones.
- I don''t like that little Android character that looks suspiciously like R2D2.\
\
I have narc-ed on him to George Lucas and I hope he demands a piece of the action for not making them stop using him after investing millions in promoting him. That would be rich -- ha, ha!\
\
The Android character makes the OS look cutesy and I hate cutesy.\
\
The people who like Android the character probably have parents who thought the Pillsbury Doughboy, the Jolly Green Giant, and Tony the Tiger were the "best advertising ever!"\
\
Cutesy ... pfffttt!
He looks like an animated trash can to me!
- I refuse to do a phone with a contract so I cannot get an iphone at present. I don''t fucking care.
- I''m sure the new iPhone 5 will allow you to use it as a free wireless hotspot.
- [quote]I refuse to do a phone with a contract so I cannot get an iphone at present. I don''t fucking care.\
\
Get one on Ebay or Craigslist or wherever. Take it\
to an AT&T store and go monthly. That''s what I did.
- Isn''t the contract at a minimum $70 per month for an iPhone? That is a ridiculously high amount.
- Damn, I guess I should not be surprised Apple is no better than any other electronic company...
[quote]Among the allegations made by workers interviewed by the NGOs %E2%80%93 the Centre for Research on Multinational Companies and Students & Scholars Against Corporate Misbehaviour (Sacom) %E2%80%93 are claims that:

- Yes you should get an iphone OP. You won''t be sorry. %0D\
%0D\
Cannot believe how many posters admitted to having a flip phone! You people obviously don''t date much do you? Talk about crazy.
- %0D\
%0D\
I have an old, beat up, hot pink Razr.
- I would never date anyone with a flip phone. How would we ever communicate if we can''t text or Facetime.\
\

- I signed up for group rate cell service at the hospital where I work some twenty years ago from LA Cellular which was later merged into Verizon, and I still get the ridiculously low rate. I have a flip phone that I just make calls with and my Verizon bill is always about $11.50 a month. As much as I''d love an iPhone 4 with the retina display, I keep thinking $11.50 or ten times that much for iPhone service with the 3G data plan.\
\
So I decided to keep the cheap phone and bought an iPad 2 wifi. I''m tracking its delivery now from the Shenzhen, China factory. It just left Anchorage, Alaska on its way to Oakland, then Ontario, California. I can''t wait for my post-PC magical device!
Tarquin
- meh less dates means less time wasted on toy fetishists
- I''ve never had a cell phone.
- I got an iPhone last week. No big whoop. I also realized that over the course of three years it''s going to cost me $2000. That''s insane.
- Get a Blackberry and an iPad.
- And I would never date you, R58.\
\
Sent from my iPhone
- What''s happened with Blackberry? Several years ago they were cutting edge. Now they''re meh. Have they just not kept up?
- Blackberry made a HUGE mistake with its Playbook. You have to own a Blackberry phone in order to take full advantage of the Playbook. Massive fail. %0D\
%0D\
Though iPods, iPhones, iTouches, iPads and iTunes sync best with Mac equipment, you don''t actually need to own a Mac to get full use of them. Making the Playbook dependent on a Blackberry phone for full use was a blunder of incredible magnitude. RIMM is hemorrhaging and Blackberry is responsible for one of the deepest lacerations.
- The real hard-core hipsters are starting to go cell phone-less.\
\
I''ve encountered two in the last month here in NYC .\
\
I know, hoo-dathunk!
- iPhone just ranked #1 again by Consumer Reports. They said it was at least 5 points, on a ten point scale above the next best DROID phone.
They said the screen was flawless and beautiful.
- [quote]I like mine, but I would like to try one of those Google Android phones, too.
That's what I love. I can't text since I've got the arthur-itis in my thumbs. The voice text on the android really saves the day.
- Google Glasses which will released this coming year will be the new hipster thing. Handheld devices will suddenly be so yesterday.
- You really think Google Glasses will catch on, R67? They seem novel, but at the end of the day, are they practical? Do people really live their lives around their phones?
- Everyone under 30 already is!
- [quote]Don't get an iPhone if you want to watch Flash Video on it...Apple doesn't allow the Adobe Flash format (Which by the way, most of the video embedded on the WWW is Flash).
Flash isn't supported anymore on Android either if you've been upgraded to Jelly Bean. Most of the video (read: porn) sites I visit have an HTML5 version now, so not a huge loss.
