Newborn Bourne star Jeremy Renner is looking to diversify. After lining up several action franchises over the last year %E2%80%94 in addition to supplanting Matt Damon as the lead in the Bourne movies, he''s also committed to future installments of Mission: Impossible and Marvel movies that will feature his Hawkeye character %E2%80%94 the actor has started a production company and is developing a biopic of one of the coolest action heroes ever: Steve McQueen. The Hollywood Reporter says James Gray %E2%80%94 who last directed Two Lovers %E2%80%94 will write the screenplay. We can definitely see Renner as McQueen, but who should play his Ali MacGraw?
Umm..wouldnt JR have to be better looking or even good looking at all to play SM? The ego on some of these actors once they grab a minute of fame. Sheesh.

Unfortunately, I have to agree, even though I love Renner and his work. He''s not a pretty boy like McQueen was.
Poor little Princess Geranium thinks she''s a beauty now she''s famous.

I thought Steve McQueen was ''rugged'' rather than pretty.
Isn''t it amusing how these actors in small films think they can become huge stars? \
He''s not rugged, nor handsome. \
And he''s a short pint to boot.
No no no.
Just because you ARE a queen...

Welll, McQueen is a pretty boy compared to Renner. Renner''s got big, thick, unattractive features.
Daniel Craig could play McQueen. This ugly piggy Renner, just no.
Craig would make a good McQueen. Renner, not so much.
Forgot to add, Jennifer Connelly for Ali.
Why this? He is Jason Bourne, Mission impossible, and now this?\
I think he should be in musicals.
[quote]Jennifer Connelly for Ali.\
Or Jordana Brewster.
emperor. clothes. new.
What did McQueen do that made his life so interesting? A bunch of largely forgettable movies, racing cars, marriage to a terrible actress and early death. Zzzzzzzz.
McQueen was an angry, pushy, dull head case.\
And Hollywood loved him. \
Renner is such a sis.
Actually wouldn''t be surprised that Jeremy Renner Wants To Play WITH Steve McQueen.
He''s got butter-face and no amount of critical accolades is gonna change that. Wonder if he''s got a plastic''s guy on hold? Or maybe they can CGI him? Or maybe he does his own makeup and can contour himself into McQueen?
That would be ''plastics''. Didnt want to get a ''mary'' from the grammer troll.
r18 and repentant.
I agree with this link - If Renner wants to play a real-life person he should be playing Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The resemblance is uncanny.
DANIEL CRAIG must play him!\
He already has a great sense of style (like McQueen)!\
He already has the exact face & eyes (like McQueen)!\
He is simply an amazing actor, and since doing the Bond movies,\
Girls love him, and guys want to be him (like McQueen)!\
Renner should direct/produce the movie and cast Craig!
Renner does resemble Fassbinder a lot! However, no biopic is being planned for this filmmaker. Renner is the same height as Steve McQueen so he'd be perfect as Steve. But he'll have to deal with kissing women because S McQueen was a ladies' man. Other than that, he'd be a natural.
He'd be perfect to play a queen, but not Steve McQueen. How about Anderson Cooper, Paul Lynde, or Ryan Murphy?
You people are talking about him like he's the elephant man. He's not bad looking at all.
Why would there be a need to film the life of an actor who was okay at his job and okay at driving a race car but never did anything outstanding or memorable?
Ask the next five people you see to name a Steve McQueen film.
Clearly he's born to play Ellen DeGeneres.
Jeremy Renner is too ugly to play Steve McQueen.
A man who looks like a middle-aged lesbian wants to play Steve McQueen? The King of Cool must be spinning in his grave.
On tv Wanted Dead or Alive
Love With the Proper Stranger
The Magnificent Seven
Thomas Crown Affair
to name a few.
Love With the Proper Stranger is one of my all time FAVORITE guilty pleasure. Bocci!
This is almost as bad as Zoe Saldana playing Nina Simone.
Daniel Craig did a passable American accent in that gangster movie with Tom Hanks. He'd be a great Steve McQueen, with Angie Harmon as Ali McGraw.
I don't know about the Steve Mc, but he's def got the "Queen" part down...
Damien Lewis should play Steve McQueen.
Daniel Craig does look a bit like Steve McQueen, but really, he looks more like McQueens bigger, butcher, sexier, more muscular brother.
McQueen was a small, thin, ugly man, and I just don't his appeal.
[quote]Jeremy Renner Wants To Play Steve McQueen
Well, he's a third of the way there already, syllabically speaking.
He is more the Ali McGraw type.
Damian Lewis is actually a better choice ...
Has Renner ever played a leading role opposite a female star ? I don't think so, he doesnt seem to relate to women that way, he is just an action hero macho man.
McQueen may have been brave facing up to his illness and decline but as an actor he was rather one note - I liked him in Love with the Proper Stranger and of course Thomas Crown, but felt no need to see most of his movies like The Sand Pebbles or Papillion. He just was not that interesting. Are the rumours true that he was rent originally ?
People in Hell want ice water.
The only "Mick" queen he'll get to play is Elizabeth II or Victoria.
That's 'grammar' R18.
r59, I've been here a while and always heard that in the good, old gossip threads late proven true.
AFAIR, no one ever contested it whenever it was mentioned.
r38 is absolutely right.
The real question is why would this even get to a planted story level? I can't believe his people wouldn't have discouraged him from publicly embarrassing himself angling for a part for which he's clearly unsuitable.
Butterfly McQueen would make a wonderful role for Viola, no?
This should be a riveting biopic. I hope this won't take attention away from the biopic on Pat Sajac.
Craig is even uglier than Renner.
In other news, Rosanne Barr wants to play Pamela Anderson.
