Shows that told you you were gay when you were a kid.

For me it was the episode of "Gilligan's Island" when Duke the Surfer visited.%0D %0D And "Tarzan" with Ron Eley.%0D %0D And Lyle Waggoner on "The Carol Burnett Show."

by Anonymousreply 245February 14, 2020 6:05 PM

Me too OP. When Duke the surfer flexed his muscles and said he was nothing but skin and bones, Ginger and Maryann replied "What skin," and "And what bones." That was Denny Miller - an ex UCLA jock I think. Mike Henry in the movies was the Tarzan that made my young dingal tingle. I remember Lyle in a loincloth as Tarzan too - totally steamed me up. We could have gotten junior boners together!

Bewitched I Dream of Jeannie The Wild, Wild West

by Anonymousreply 2April 13, 2011 10:38 PM

I don't think there were any shows that told me I was gay when I was a kid, but I watched Shirley Temple movies every Saturday. I love The Wild, Wild West but my favorite character was Artimes Gorden, not Robert Conrad's tight pants.

by Anonymousreply 3April 13, 2011 10:46 PM

LOST IN SPACE (for Mark Goddard) THE TIME TUNNEL (for James Darren) By the way, R2, Denny Miller was also a Tarzan, in case you don't know that.

by Anonymousreply 4April 13, 2011 10:48 PM

Today is Lyle Waggoner's 76th birthday.%0D %0D Denny Miller also starred in "Tarzan," "Wagon Train," and "Meet Mona McClusky." The latter two often found reasons for him to be shirtless.

Man from Atlantis: Patrick Duffy.

James Franciscus in anything. I had vivid memories of him when I was 6.

For some reason, I had a crush on Cornelius (Roddy McDowell) from Planet of the Apes. I guess because he seemed so queeny and sensitive.

Land of the Lost: I had a crush on both Marshall and Will in Land of the Lost and always wanted to bitchslap Holly.

Bill Bixby, first in My Favorite Martian (even though the Martian was really queeny) and then when he was in the Incredible Hulk.

Gilligan's Island: the Professor.

On the campier side: Wonderwoman, Electrawoman and Dyna Girl, Isis, Bionic Woman.

[quote]What's with the posts picking all these old people? %0D %0D Check Battle of the Network Stars. Yes, Albert was hot. So was Willie.

by Anonymousreply 121April 17, 2011 8:07 AM

I completely forgot about Albert on Little House. He didn't really make much of an impression to me until he suddenly seemed very grown up in that 2 part episode called 'Sylvia' where he liked her but even though she was knocked up with someone elses baby. He took the public hit for it so that she didn't have to say that she was really raped. It was the town blacksmith that did it, but nobody knew until the end when he came back for more but got shot by Sylvia's dad.%0D %0D I think I was in love with Albert because he was such a mensch. He was the only one that believed Sylvia's story and wanted to do whatever he could to help her including dropping out of school and running away with her so they could marry and start a family in a town where nobody knew them.%0D %0D I wanted to be Sylvia, sort of, except that I've never wanted to be a ladyfish so I actually just wanted to be me and run away with Albert. Also Sylvia died which is another reason I didn't want to be her.

I was very confused. I had the hots for Tuesday Weld on Dobie Gilles but when Ricky Nelson was on Ozzie and Harriet I dropped everything just to stare at him.%0D %0D BTW, I LOVE 70's shows and 70's fashions - amazing tight-jeans crotch shots in shows like Hunter etc. HUB just reran an episode of "Laverne & Shirley" with Ed Marinaro guesting as Laverne's visiting Italian cousin. In one extended scene, he is standing in his skintight jeans and there is a long bulge that stretches from his crotch almost to his outer leg - his jeans were so tight you can tell he is uncut.

Also, the Dukes of Hazzard. I remember lying in bed thinking, who do I like better, Luke or Bo? Wait, shouldn't I be liking Daisy? Hmmmmm....

C..J from Matt Houston. I wanted to be Matt so that I could constantly rescue C.J. I was so in love with her.

Col. Wilma Deering from Buck Rogers. Good lord, those tight jumpsuits were mesmerizing.

Jamie, the Bionic Woman, Wonder Woman, Laura Holt from Remington Steele, Linda Carter in the Big Valley and Dynasty, Dee Dee from Hunter, Ginger on Gilligan's Island, Lacey on Cagney and Lacey... I could go on.

I was fascinated by these women but had no idea that I was different from other little girls. My mother did. I can remember this look she used to give me, like she knew something about me. She was very close to her gay brother and he has told me they used to talk about me being a baby dyke.

In hindsight, I wanted to be the guy in all these shows because they always got the girl.

Weekday afternoon reruns were a godsend!

"Lost In Space:" I wanted the father! "The Munsters:" Thought Lily was fabulous. "Please Don't Eat the Daisies:" The father was a hunk! "Petticoat Junction:" The cropduster husband was a stud! "Batman:" Loved it when he was tied up! "Gilligan's Island:" I wanted the Professor. "The Big Valley:"I still want Nick Barkley! "Bewitched:" Same as all the posters here! "Superman:" George Reeves was swoon worthy!

Primetime TV: "Six Million Dollar Man:" Heath Barkley all grown up! "Wonder Woman:" I wanted to rescue Steve Trevor! "SWAT:" Loved those guys! "Starsky and Hutch:" Those tight jeans! "Vegas:" RIP Robert Urich! "Buck Rogers:" Tight uniform and shirtless. Hawk was mighty fine too! "Matt Huston:" Por Man's tom Selleck. But hell, I lusted after Lee Horsley! "MNF:" I love sports, but I love guys in tight pants too! "Battle of the Network Stars:" Chance to see your favorite TV actors in speedos! "Eight Is Enough:" Loved David the older brother!

Movies: "The Wizard of Oz:' Springtime special once a year. They should have known I was gay, when I wanted the soundtrack at age 5!

[quote][R66] & [R68], I think you misunderstood. I didn't mean the shows were old, I meant that the actors some here claim to have salivated over were old at the time they were supposedly attracted to them.

Space: 1999!

Just what kind of downers was Barbara Bain on? Except in the episode with Billie Whitelaw where Helena and sourpuss Tony were clearly on X.

Maya, powered by Catherine Schell's screwball-comedy acting, is a truly fabulous 70's space alien. Too bad there was only one season with Maya.

Alan (Nick Tate) has a fantastic Aussie chest rug -- see photo at link.

Sandra (Zienia Merton) is the "emotional barometer," and we can enjoy the camp non-actress Yasuko whenever Zienia isn't working. Zienia's autobiography is pretty amazing reading.

And how about that episode where they followed the bouncing ball all around a rock cavern? Trippy stuff.

Every episode of "Dr. Kildare" with Richard Chamberlain in the title role. (James Franciscus in "Mr. Novak" ran a close second.) In the early 80's there was a commercial for Milk (I think) where a hurdler is running toward the camera in slow motion and jumping the hurdles.

This athlete is in dolphin running shorts and his HUGE balls and dick are slamming left and right against his thighs as jumps over each bar! The camera is centered and zoomed in on his crotch. OMG. it was so homoerotic, it was basically porn! I would sit mesmerized by his jiggling bulge every time it came on.

I lusted over Scott Bakula in every episode & hoped he'd be shirtless. The episode where he "leaps" into a monkey was like a fucking christmas present. He's practically naked in all of it. There were other shows too, but that was the most definitive proof.

There was an episode of Dukes of Hazzard where Bo and Luke get their clothes stolen and are driving around naked. Roscoe catches them and seems to take a longer than necessary look at their nakedness. I was too young to understand it, but I knew something about that scene made me feel funny inside.

That, and a Leave it to Beaver where Wally and Beaver are sitting on a bed and Wally puts his arm around Beaver to comfort him about something, and Beaver leans in against him. I was about Beaver's age, and seeing that, man I was wishing I was Beaver. I didn't have a brother and I think for as long as I could I lied to myself and chalked stuff like that up to wishing I had a brother.

I had a total gayling crush on Andy from "Little House," r221. Also Alex from "One Day at a Time."

For me it was Van Williams on Surfside 6. I recently got DVDs of the entire series, and I was surprised at how seldom he went shirtless. I had thought it was every episode, but it's much less. Interestingly, the other two male stars (Troy Donahue and Lee something) never appeared fully shirtless, though Lee was in a bathing suit in the titles segment each week.

By the way, does anyone besides me know that the late Brian Kelly of Flipper was Brian D'Arcy James' uncle?

I had crushes on 2 two guys on McHale's Navy: Christie (the wavy-haired blond) and Fuji, the Japanese POW.

My first boyfriend was a wavy-haired blond and my second boyfriend was Asian.

"Sonny & Cher" and later on just "Cher". I couldn't wait to see what fabulous Bob Mackie gown she'd be wearing.

"Secrets Of Isis". I used to put on my mom's cheap-o Cher ( there's that pesky Cher again!) wig,, spin around and chant" Zephyr winds that blow on high, lift me now so I can fly!"

"Match Game"---I wanted to be as cunty as fag hag extraordinaire Brett Somers.

R27 I loved Virginia Graham, for the hair if nothing else. You just know she had to be an all-time cunt off-camera.

I loved the end of TO TELL THE TRUTH when all the panelists would get up from behind the desk and mingle with the gusts. It looked like a swanky New York cocktail party. I always knew that, as soon as the cameras went off, the gentlemen helped the ladies on with their mink soles and fur coats and they all got into big black limousines and went drinking and dancing at the Stork Club or El Morocco, while 8 year-old me got sent off to bed.

During the 60s when I was a kid: Lyle Waggoner, Rod Taylor, Hugh O'Brien, Clint Walker. They probably knew I was gay before *I* did.
