- Throwing Muses, and don''t worry, no - you won''t have heard of them.
- r23 = Kristen Hersh.
- It''s Kristin Hersh r24, go back and listen to your Justin Beaver or Rihanna or whatever brainless shit people like you listen to.
- Pink Floyd.
- r25 = spelling troll who obviously hasn''t gotten laid in ages.
- The best band ever is Sonic Youth.
Thread Closed
- r23/25- Wannabe indie snob disappointed that r24 immediately got a reference that was much less obscure than he hoped. \
\
Throwing Muses had a couple decent records. To call them the best band ever is utterly ridiculous.
- Abba. \
\
And no, I''m not joking.
- Velvet Underground
- The Beatles. Hands down.
- It''s a very personal thing r29, maybe as far as r23 is concerned Throwing Muses is the best band ever. I mean Sonic Youth were great, both Sister & Daydream Nation were great, even if their earlier and later albums are not, but those records or the band don''t compare in influence with The Beatles, if we are going by not personal preference but common considered fact, The Beatles are the best band ever.
- ABBA
Not joking either
- I''ve always thought it''d be cool to fuck to this song..

- r33 So, by your logic Avatar is the best film ever made? Harry Potter was the greatest novel ever written? Bullshit. Things that have universal appeal (like the Beatles) are usually pretty mediocre.

- The Clash.
- I had opened this thread to add The Clash and then found R43 at the end of it.
I live by the river.
- Another Throwing Muses fan. They might not have been the biggest or most influential band, but those of us that love them, love them passionately. \
\
They''re the first band my partner and I ever saw together (Hunkpapa tour, 1989) and have been devoted to all things Kristin ever since. We also love Tonya Donnelly, The Breeders and Belly, but Kristin and TM are without a doubt "our" band. \
\
So yeah, Throwing Muses, best band evah.

In a van?
Matt Foley
- I wish OP had put ''YOUR best band evah''. Sounds a bit strident, otherwise.
- I saw Pink Floyd in 1977, Animals tour. Sound was awful.
- Does anybody here like My Bloody Valentine?
- Oasis is the best fucking band in the world.
- R45, I''m a huge Kristin Hersh fan, Sunny Border Blue was the first album I ever bought as a 16 year old gay hiding in a small town, I remember listening to Spain, Summer Salt and Williams Cut think how in a weird way the were sorta gay orientated. \
\
\
I had very limited experience about being gay or what it was to be gay, but I knew gay l Madonna and artist like her, so liking Hersh I thought was really weird for a gay guy and I never felt part of gay the community.\
\
\
The first chance I got to see her live was on the 2003 Throwing Muse reunion tour. It was amazing but what really shocked me was the amount of gay men on at the concert an intense, cathartic, dark, alternative band, and there were lots or openly gay men with arms around each other, really made be feel not alone, seems sorta lame now to have thought that, but back then it meant something to me.
- I''m almost sure Kristin was raised by her gay uncle and his partner.
- Queen. They did everything masterfully.\
\
Run DMC. Laugh all you want, but there are still hip hop bands out there now who owe a massive debt to them.
- True r55, she often talks about it. Kristin, Billy and their 3 kids lived with them not long ago in Palm Springs. She thinks of them as her parents. \
\
R54, Kristin has a large, dedicated gay following that she cherishes. She would be touched by your post.\
\
Btw, if you haven''t read it yet, her book, "Rat Girl" is excellent.
r45
- I believe Rat Girl is in the early stages of being made into a film. That was a touching post r54, I have to say right now 50footwave are my fav band.

\
My personal favorites depend roughly on the decade:\
\
60''s: Stones (through Let it Bleed)\
\
70''s: Roxy Music (check out the very futuristic "Ladytron" taped in 1972...amazing)\
\
80''s The Smiths\
\
90''s NIN\
\
00''s Magnetic Fields/Future Bible Heroes/Stephin Merritt\

Rebecca Black
- Didn''t Tori Amos cover "Ladytron"? If she didn''t, she should''ve
- Duke Ellington and his Orchestra
- I had no idea other gay men like Kristin Hersh,or Throwing Muses!
I have two iPods full of music. I mention it because, with all the music, and different kinds of music,Kristin makes me feel/imagine things no other musician does.
One unique thing is that I almost never know what she is singing "about".
It never seems important to understand her meaning. The ambiguity of her lyrics is absolutely original.
She also usually writes, plays all the instruments, produces, and sings her songs. I'm not really making a good case for her music. I just love her,and feel like I know her.

- Alan Parsons Project
- I love Throwing Muses, The Real Ramona is emblematic of my early 20s. Hook In Her Head, unfff. Saw them in 1991 (I think) in Palo Alto and Kristin must have been 8 months pregnant.
Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (circa 1986) were a fucking great band, too.
- AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Metallica (Four-way tie).
Gay Metal Dude
- Not The Alabama Shakes

- PREFAB SPROUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- Elvis Fucking Presley. Solo artist, yes. But he had killer backing bands and I love this man passionately.
- The HOTTEST lead singer EVER!!!! This band wins because of it!

- The Best bands are those who you know exactly who they are from the very first note -- sound so unique and compelling that they stand alone on a now ever shrinking landscape.
