Is Anyone Sick Of Natalie Portman?
I''m really tired of seeing and hearing about her. Her acting leaves me cold too. I never actually disliked her in the past, but just something about her rubs me wrong way these days. Perhaps it''s just me. Perhaps I''m not alone though.
- Love Her!
- The whole time I watched ''Black Swan'' I couldn''t help but think it was mostly camera trickery and CGI when she was "dancing".
- Yes, Annette. Yes.
- OP = Katie Holmes.
- I actually don''t mind her and kind of like her. I also think she''s hot, so there''s that!
les
- Is Anne Hathaway her uglier cousin?
- It''s natural to dislike something or someone everyone else at the moment loves. Don''t sweat it.
- And by most people, you of course mean media hype.
- Extra value is whatcha get, when you buy aaa aaa nette!
rosemary looney
- I dont hate her -- I think she''s gorgeous and quite talented -- but I am less interested now that she''s going to be a mom. \
\
I feel like she sold out by getting knocked up so young.
- I''m sick of the OP and his bullshit.
Name Withheld
- At least Emma Watson is likable.
- I''ve only seen her in a handful of roles, most notably the Star Wars prequels. I don''t get the hype. Pretty, but not particularly talented. But to be fair, the Star Wars prequels sucked so badly that it lessened everyone involved in my estimation.
- I''ve never understood the appeal, personally. Watching water dry is more emotionally engaging than her performance in... well... just about anything.
She sells tickets though, so she''s here to stay.
- I hear ya, OP.\
\
There''s something a little insufferable about her, something priggish and self-infatuated I can''t quite put my finger on. And then in interviews? Eww!\
\
Perhaps self-knowledge will come with age and experience.\
\
Namaste.
Gwyneth
- I have loved Natalie Portman since Beautiful Girls, and through her triumphs in Garden State and Closer. While I hated Black Swan, I liked her performance and won''t begrudge her her current success.\
\
However, the fact is that Benning, Lawrence and Williams (I haven''t seen Kidman) gave stronger performances this year, as did non-nominees Naomi Watts, Tilda Swinton, Jya Kim, Leslie Manville, and Julianne Moore.
- She''s also a slut having a child outside of marriage. Let''s not forget about that either.
- I thought she was terrific in Black Swan but believe that it will be the highlight of her career. The character fitted her perfectly but she doesn''t have a lot of range. Then again, a lot of actresses don''t. But she''ll always seem like a fragile little girl to me so I don''t know what other kinds of roles she can play as she gets older.
- She''s not my fave. But she''s no Gwyneth, either.
Winona
- Yes.

\
Agreed. Also how difficult can it be to act convincingly with droids?
Carrie Fisher
- F&F for r17, go back to FreeRepublic.
- Not as sick as I am of Nicole Kidman and her LYING FAKE ass!!
Just Sayin
- Nothing to look at. (Even with the nose job).%0D\
%0D\
Nothing to listen to. (High-pitched, squeaky voice.)%0D\
%0D\
Nothing distinctive or charming like Laura Linney, Sela Ward or many other actresses.%0D\
%0D\
Not imposing. (Tiny.)%0D\
%0D\
One big (little) NOTHING!%0D\
%0D
- I didn''t mind her before, but the Oscar push is getting on my nerves.
- You find Laura Linney charming? Really? She''s about the last actress I''d apply that adjective to.
- "I feel like she sold out by getting knocked up so young."\
\
She''s 29, for fuck''s sake. Where do you live that that is "so young"?
- I am with R25. This Oscar run and the acceptance speeches are cringe worthy. She is starting to get on my nerves as well.
- R22 does not get humour. %0D\
%0D
- Why is she having a child outside of marriage?
- Lo0k at the actresses who play Mary and Sybil on DOWNTON ABBEY. Both are just as beautiful, if not more so than Natalie Portman. %0D\
%0D\
They have better voices, posture, more distinctive, etc. Why are they stars? What makes Natalie Portman as star and not they?%0D\
%0D\
Family money and connections?
- r29, actually thinks he''s a playwright.
- bien sur, mais nous faisons ce que nous avons a
- Is that one of your Austism tics? Breaking into French when confronted?
- r31 - luck, fate, in the right place at the right time liked by the right people. Becoming successful at acting is hardly ever about talent.
- comment il est des gens ne savent pas qui je suis
- Anyone else find, r36, creepy?
- I find the French creepy.
- She was quite annoying when she was a guest judge on Top Chef.%0D\
%0D\
I think it''s her whole artsy/stoner demeanor, and her pretentious friends. (During the Top Chef episode, she actually said, "what kind of drugs are you on, and can I have some??")%0D\
%0D\
I think that Natalie is just a goofy, young, and not-self-aware actress, who is authentically carefree.%0D\
%0D\
But sometimes, those types of girls REALLY tend to get on peoples'' nerves.%0D\
%0D\
I like her.
- She definitely has taken on a bit of a contrived air lately. Don''t care for it, she''s always seemed so down to earth.
- That cringeworthy GG speech made me hate her. That and the dress.
- [quote]Nothing distinctive or charming like Laura Linney\
\
Linney the ninny is absolute BORE!
- Is she British, her wiki says no, but SKY news in the UK, say she is has "British interest".
- As soon as she wins the Oscar, it will all die down.%0D\
%0D\
The ones I am truly sick of are Piers Morgan and that Winfrey woman.
- I saw her in The Diary of Anne Frank. Anyone else see that? That final scene with the Nazi storming the attic was something to see. I think that is the first production to add that to the production. It was really quite effective. Portman was OK.. of course she was much younger and I believe this was her stage debut.

\
I did, it was so bad the audience started yelling "SHE''S IN THE ATTIC!!!"
Dorothy Zbornaik
- I''d bet money that OP is British.
- Sure she''s pretty (thanks to her nose job) but honestly, she''s a boring actress who never comes across as being honest to me. I don''t get it.
- The Anti Portman Troll needs to take a nice long nap past the SAGs and Oscars, or it''s going to be a very difficult month for her full of G&Ts, benzos, and flung muumuus.
- R10, knocked up so YOUNG??%0D\
%0D\
She is 29 and will be 30 on June 9. 2011.
- She seems very self-satisfied and princess-y.\
\
Priggish is another good description, used by a poster above.\
\
She also has the creepy, hyper-self-awareness of a small child who cuts her eyes over to the adults to see how they are reacting whenever she does something "cute."
- She is gorgeous.
- Wow, R39, you really described Natalie very accurately!%0D\

With strong emphasis on she being self-satisfied and princess-y!%0D\
%0D
- The reason she comes off as princess-y is because she a jewish american princess and it comes with the title.\
\
I wish she would reenlist with the IDF and get the hell out of show business.
alienboy17
- Saw DL fave Mo Rocca interview her for CBS THIS MORNING and thought she was pretentious, fake, bragging about her Harvard degree (this is not something she should mention pre-Oscars, it just makes people hate her). She an overprivileged JAP from L.I. Hope she loses!
- How did I forget this precious gem? It''s my guilty pleasure!
http://cdn.movieclips.com/keyart/585969x480.jpg
- [quote]bragging about her Harvard degree\
\
I''m assuming she was asked about and didn''t just bring it up herself.
- Natalie Portman is to Black Swan what Hillary Swank is to Boys Don''t Cry.%0D\
%0D\
It seemed like these roles could have been created to fit their own persona. %0D
- Can''t wait to see her on SVU in three to five years!
I like her!
- But since Mo is also a Harvard grad, she (or her flacks) should''ve realized he''d ask her about it and should''ve steered her clear of the question!
Doloris, FLASH p.r.
- I think she''s the most beautiful woman in Hollywood. She''s looks better bald! How many women can pull that off?
- Me y''all!
Britney
- I don''t think she''s the most beautiful woman. She''s pretty, but when they were showing clips of her movie during the Golden Globes, she bore a striking resemblance to Rumer Willis in the shots filmed at a low angle. I was actually shocked.%0D\

- Natalie Portman Extended Laugh

- Natalie''s man bought her an eco-friendly engagement ring, made out of recyleced platinum, and conflict-free diamonds.%0D\

Awwww...
- It seemed like Hillary Clinton had the hots for Natalie Portman. And for Gwyneth Paltrow.
birds of a feather
- Yes. She''s very bland.
- Her profile is very ugly in this first picture:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1330605/Your-Highness-Natalie-Portman-wears-VERY-tiny-bikini-new-film.html
- The first two pictures are not Portman, R68. It''s a body double. Look at the ass and hair in the second two pictures. It isn''t the same woman.
- It''s her, R69.
- Omg, I love her!
Nerdy gay guy
- It''s just too much of her. Are there any other actresses left in the Lala land? It may be shocking to the Hollywood crowd but she is NOT THAT GREAT! Moreover, she is in every damned movie this year! C''mon folks!
Victor Ramkin
- Happens every time an actor sweeps awards. Nothing new. She''s wisely said she''s taking time off and the baby is a good excuse. \
\
As a woman, unless you''re over 40 (or unfortunate looking), winning is almost a curse because its an invitation for everyone in the free world to hate you.
- She has a slew of movies coming out this year, so even if she takes time off, she''ll still be everywhere promoting.
- In pop culture, Natalie is really Jacqueline Bouvier to Britney''s Marilyn Monroe. They have both impacted the culture profoundly.
http://www.thebiographychannel.co.uk/biographies/britney-spears/gallery/mainContent/0/assetPhotos/01/image/Britney-Spears3-640.jpg
- I think she''s very pretty and is talented. I think her performance in the Star Wars movies was subpar but she was good in The Other Boylen Girl and in Garden State.
- She did a great job in "Black Swan."
- Natalie is a good actress and one of few Hollywood actresses who aren''t cheap publicity whores.
- Sick and tired of her in every movie ! Mix it up people - are all the other actresses in Hollywood unemployed?
- I just can''t warm up to her. She''s pretty and she seems like she has a good head on her shoulders but every time I see her in a film I am so distracted by how babyish and annoying she seems. I have the opposite reaction to Gwyneth Paltrow. As ridiculously pompous as she is in real life, I enjoy her performances and I can''t help liking her. A little bit.
- She seemed so unpretentious and laid back before, then suddenly everything seems contrived about her. I thought she was okay acting-wise. Best of luck to her.
- I also find Natalie a bland actress. My friend has the same rabbi as the Portman family or something like that, and their families ate dinner together once. The friend told me that: 1) Natalie was even more beautiful in person than on camera, and 2) she could not stop talking about herself.
- on her small frame the pregnancy weight will do permanent damage.
Ms Bening (4 and slim still)
- Yes I am totally sick of seeing her everywhere! She''s completely talentless so I really don''t understand what the whole hype is all about
dlrkaplan
- Hollywood''s PR machine would have us believe that she''s some kind of genius. What a joke. These days, if you are a celebrity and you can speak correctly or coherently, people think you''ve got a brilliant mind. That''s how low the standards have become.
- OP, how come you aren''t sick of cheap publicity whores like Reese Witherspoon? The one who used her wedding to promote the newest shitty movie.%0D\
%0D\
%0D
- Maybe they are, R86.
- Can''t stand Natalie. She was awful in "Black Swan" and it''s a joke she won the Oscar.\
\
But as a person - she seems pleasant, a far sight better than Reese or Winona.
- I find her annoying and stupid. Sexy as an old wrinkled potato - definitely not talented. She is in the top 5 of famous people who get on my nerves.
Anonymous
- I'm sure the gay ballet dancer who agreed to pretend to be the baby's father is at the end of his rope
- She's never given a better performance than she gave in "Leon/The Professional" when she was about 12 years old.
- For some reason I feel as though I should like her ... but I just can't.
Then again, she was plain embarrassing in The Hotel Chevalier - couldn't someone have told Wes Anderson that Portman can't do sexy, and definitely can't do bad girl roles?
- I'm also sick of Meryl Streep.
OP
- Ben Millipied is not gay r90.
- Mediocre actress. She won an Oscar for Black Swan and it was a mediocre performance in a mediocre movie.
Her looks are also overrated. She's pretty average even with that rhinoplasty.
Some of her performances are so wooden, it's like she was channeling Brad Pitt.
- Black Swan was not a mediocre movie. It wasn't nearly good enough to reach the level of mediocre.
- Agreed, saw Black Swan the other night. It was just bad. Unoriginal, not artistic, cliched, predictable, boring, banal, didn't go anywhere, goofy. JUst your typical modern crap. Hilarious that people think it's something intelligent or artistic.
Mila Kunis...wow, how compelling.
- 97 posts and no one's mentioned that her kid looks exactly like Darron Aronofsky?
- She was excellent in Garden State.
- There is a lesbian scene in 'Hesher'
Is Natalie Portman in that scene?
- Michelle Williams should have won that Oscar over Natalie.
