They're releasing one date at a time, places that only a has-been would go to, and those aren't even selling. The tour starts in the beginning of February. Three dates have been announced so far. She can't even perform shows in Europe or the US, because she knows no one will come to see her. She's going to be performing in places that look like high school gymnasiums. Her people have said that this tour will totally be stripped down, and that there will be no pyrotechnics. "Just Janet." Good god!
Janet Jackson''s "Number Twos" Tour Ain''t Selling

Jacksons are so last-century.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | January 5, 2011 10:07 PM |
"Number Twos" is a fitting name for how this is turning out
by Anonymous | reply 2 | January 5, 2011 10:10 PM |
There may be no pyro, but you can bet your sweet ass those fucking storybook inflatable sets and a stool to cry on will be provided. She has yet to do a tour without them.
She has been canceling shows since Velvet Rope Tour because she does the same shit tour after tour after tour. Why pay to see the same shit over and over again?
by Anonymous | reply 3 | January 5, 2011 10:12 PM |
Janet's number 2 concert is just like the Velvet Rope, but with different costumes. I loved the Velvet Rope, and have no problem if it's not different.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | January 5, 2011 10:16 PM |
From press release:
"This tour will differ from her previous concert schedules in that she will perform music exclusively from her chart topping CD NUMBER ONES. There will also be a focus on venues that will allow Janet to be up close and personal in a much more intimate setting. This show is JANET more revealed, more intimate, and more personal than ever before. Don%E2%80%99t look for special effects. Just look at Janet."

The fur thing was it for me and Janet. That was the end. What she did was despicable. I let the collaboration with Beenie Man slide.
On top of everything else, she hasn't made a decent album in nearly 14 years. Her last good one was "The Velvet Rope". She would be smart to go the artistic/experimental route, take the critical acclaim, not worrying about albums sales, because let's face it, she can't sell albums anymore. The sex thing has really gotten old anyway. I really do wonder if the woman was sexually abused as a child at this point.
I do know that she doesn't have a record label. She's going to be 45 this year, and if she releases another album, that won't come out until next year, which is when she'll be nearing 46. She is not going to sell to kids, and adults are not into her sex crap. She would be smart to go into more mature territory, something other than sex. I don't know if she'll take the hint though. She seems to be trapped in the same bubble her brother was in.
You have to also remember that she doesn't have a big back catalog. It's Control, Rhythm Nation, janet., The Velvet Rope, and "All For You" from the album, All For You. That's four albums, plus one song from a fifth for her to choose songs from. She does the same ones over and over again each time live. It's beyond boring. Look at Madonna, she has now 11 albums to choose songs from, and that doesn't even include her "Best of" albums which housed new material, and soundtracks. Janet doesn't even change the dance routines. The public doesn't want it, and I can't believe she isn't tired of doing the same dance steps all these decades. Her last tour was a bomb, and she had to pull out. She did like 10 shows, and canceled all the rest. She looked horrible on stage then too. She was beyond fat. I'm surprised she didn't have a heart attack dancing. Don't even get me started on the costumes.
She really gets on my nerves with that cutesy baby talk shit she always does in interviews. What the fuck is wrong with her? The whole family talks like infants. It ain't cute, honey!
At least she dumped Jermaine Dupri. All in all, she's done in terms of music. She could do more films, but it's not like she's going to win an Oscar. She's old, and she's black. There aren't a lot of roles out there fitting that criteria. Maybe she'll just work behind-the-scenes for people or something.

All For You was very good album. Pretty much overlooked.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 7, 2011 2:31 AM |
No, r141. "All For Poo" was a horrible album, and the beginning of the end for her. She was trying to be hip with the kids. It was tragic.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 7, 2011 3:00 AM |
No, it was not tragic. She did a very successful tour for ALL FOR YOU and she was still "hip with the kids" in 2001. Her last tour was tragic. But I don't expect you geezers to remember all of this.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 7, 2011 3:11 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 8, 2011 1:46 PM |
Exactly R49. Janet thinks she can coast on her brother's death whilst offering absolutely nothing new. Every concert, every dance move, every breathy coo between and during some of her songs - same ole' shit.
When someone posted news about Janet's upcoming tour, I said it would FAIL big time, and as this post points out - I was right.
Sorry Janet - come up with some fresh, new ideas and people might actually want to see you.

The tour is playing theatres. Good for her for wanting to give her fans an intimate experience. What she is doing with the 20 under 20 program and keeping her set-list fluid is great.

She's clearly still relevant based on the volume of haters that crowd a thread whenever her name is brought up. My boyfriend is a big JJ fan, and wants to go to her recently announced concert in St. Louis. I think the tickets are too expensive, but I'll take him nonetheless and sit through it (that's love).
But, I'm expecting that a lot of people are going to wait until the last two weeks before the concert, which is at the end of March, to buy tickets. People don't have a ton of money these days, the tickets are expensive, and JJ, although she certainly has her fan base, doesn't have a huge rabid fan base like she used to. So ticket sales may be slow, and if that's the case, I bet the concert gets canceled.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | January 20, 2011 7:26 AM |

Janet + MSG? LOL! Please!

I saw some clips on YT from the tour. I would definitely go. Janet is actually singing her songs instead of having a huge track behind her. Her voice is very good. Janet still has more rhythm than any of these R&B whores out today, and her dancers are perfection.

Madge v. Janet singing arguments are ridiculous.
They both are capable pop singers, and not much else, though they have both occasionally shown a little more substance to their vocals, but not that often.
Compared to "real" singers, they're not even close, but that's not the point. They are/were pop superstars. They both have their strengths and very clear weaknesses.

R116 I hope you enjoyed it because it will never happen again.

She just sold out three shows in Chicago and the reviews were actually pretty good. While there are some vocal tracks, the reviewer said it was a much more authentic, less rigid show.

She looks fat!

Janet needs to tell that hussy LaToya to go down an implant size.

Why is it called "# twos" and why is there, what looks like, a turd on the cover?

I saw an advert for the concert in the local paper and the photo of JJ writhing onstage in an ugly outfit while looking very middle-aged was not a great way to sell tickets. She looked tired and at least a decade past her prime. And that's how I feel about her as a performer. I'm 38, how are the young hip folks going to feel?

Hey gramps at r125 I'm 28 and Janet is everything.
Respect.

R126, I wrote, "young hip folks", why are you responding?

$18 a ticket? That's so cute. Some people charge 20 times that and still sell out stadiums.

LOS ANGELES! TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymous | reply 132 | April 14, 2011 6:55 PM |

Janet was awesome last night in LA. She came on at 9:15 and left the stage @ 11:10. Fucking great show! She still has it!

Sadly, there are two Janet Jackson fans on this board who insist that Janet is still relevant. Stop trying to make her happen fellas. Anyone can sell out a venue these days - hello! - Charlie Sheen. And his ticket prices aren't as dirt-cheap as this no-talent, Minnie Mouse-voiced, ugly twat that can only dance if there is a troupe behind her.
So for you TWO fans on this board - please enjoy the show. Just stop trying to make her happen, and stop pushing this lame thread to the front over and over again.
