Chekhov's "Three Sisters" w/ Geraldine Page, Kim Stanley, and Sandy Dennis
and Shelley Winters as Natalya!
This is a 1966 filmed version of the Lee Strasberg's Actor's Studio (The Method) production from 1964. According to Wikipedia, the London critics were so savage regarding Kim Stanley's Masha when this production was performed there that Stanley vowed never to act on stage again (and made good on that promise).
What do you all think of this now? Geraldine Page is quite moving. I'm a fan of Sandy Dennis but she is certainly Sandy Dennissing all over the place.

A notorious disaster. This is like the Olympics of mannered divas, allowed to run rampant. On Broadway, Shirley Knight had the Sandy Dennis role (which might have helped a little), and Barbara Baxley had Shelley Winters' part (her performance inspiring a nice swipe from DL fave John Simon). Gerry Page claimed Stanley's part at some point in the Broadway role, but I can't remember why.
